Why Every Christian Is Called to Serve | The Heart of Biblical Service
2026/09/25
What does it really mean to serve God? In this episode of Rooted in the Gospel, we explore the spiritual discipline of serving and why it is essential to our growth in Christlikeness. Biblical service goes far beyond volunteering at church or helping when it is convenient. It means following the example of Jesus, who humbled Himself, served others, and ultimately gave His life for us.
Discover how pride, laziness, and the desire for recognition can keep us from serving faithfully, and learn how gratitude, humility, love, and obedience shape a heart devoted to Christ. You'll be encouraged to examine your motives, recognize the opportunities God has placed before you, and embrace the truth that your labor in the Lord is never in vain. Where can you serve today?

Your faithful service matters, even when no one sees it. God sees every act of love, every sacrifice, and every moment you choose humility over recognition. You do not serve to earn His love; you serve because you have already received His grace.
This week, ask yourself: Where can I serve right now? Look for the opportunities God has placed before you, and remember that your labor in the Lord is never in vain.

Finding Opportunities to Share Jesus Every Day | Practical Evangelism
2026/09/18
How do you actually share the gospel with the people God has placed around you? Evangelism can feel intimidating when we think we need perfect words, extensive biblical knowledge, or the ability to answer every difficult question. In this episode of Rooted in the Gospel, MaCarly sits down with Pastor Thad Cartwright to talk about what faithful evangelism really looks like and how ordinary Christians can begin having meaningful conversations about Jesus. They discuss why evangelism is not only for pastors, missionaries, or naturally outgoing people, why living a Christian life cannot replace proclaiming the gospel with our words, and how the Holy Spirit empowers us to be faithful witnesses.
This conversation gets practical about moving from everyday conversations toward spiritual things, asking thoughtful questions, listening well, sharing your testimony, and balancing truth and love when talking about sin, judgment, grace, and the gospel. Thad also shares encouragement for those who feel like they don't know enough, explaining why we can start by simply sharing what we do know about Jesus and trusting God with the results. If you've ever wondered how to start gospel conversations without feeling awkward or unprepared, this episode will encourage you to stop waiting until you know everything and start faithfully sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

💬 You do not have to know everything before you can tell someone about Jesus.
You may not have every theological answer. You may stumble over your words. You may not know exactly how a conversation will unfold. But if you know Christ, you have something to testify about.
Your job is not to save someone. Your job is not to manufacture a conversion or have the perfect response to every objection. Your calling is to be a faithful witness and trust the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do.
So don't wait until you feel completely prepared. Know the gospel. Know what Christ has done for you. Pray for boldness. Love the people God has placed around you. Be genuinely interested in their lives, listen to them, and look for the doors God opens.
And when that opportunity comes, open your mouth and tell them about Jesus.
How to Share the Gospel Without Fear | Learning to Evangelize
2026/09/11
Evangelism can feel intimidating, especially when we imagine that sharing the gospel requires perfect words, a bold personality, or the ability to answer every difficult theological question. But evangelism is not reserved for pastors, missionaries, or naturally outgoing Christians. In this episode of Rooted in the Gospel, we look at evangelism as a spiritual discipline and consider what it means for every believer to faithfully share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Before we can share the gospel, we need to know what the gospel actually is. We walk through the seriousness of sin, the holiness and justice of God, Christ’s perfect life, His sacrificial death, His resurrection, and the call to repent and believe. We also explore the Great Commission, the role of the Holy Spirit, and what the early church in Acts teaches us about the power and advancement of the gospel.
Finally, we get practical. Learn how to prepare yourself to evangelize, use Scripture such as the Romans Road, grow in biblical literacy, learn from faithful evangelists, practice gospel conversations, ask thoughtful questions, share your testimony without making it the gospel, and overcome the fear of rejection. The goal isn't to become impressive at evangelism—it is to become faithful.
🛣️ Romans Road to SalvationA Scripture-based tool mentioned in the episode for helping believers clearly communicate the gospel.
📖 Romans 3:23 • Romans 6:23 • Romans 5:8 • Romans 8:1 • Romans 10:9–10Scripture passages recommended as part of the Romans Road to Salvation.

💬 The gospel that changed your life is not something you were meant to keep to yourself.
You do not have to be the most eloquent person in the room. You do not have to know the answer to every question. You do not have to convince someone to believe. Your calling is much simpler: know the gospel, love the people God has placed around you, depend on the Holy Spirit, and faithfully tell others about Jesus.
The pressure of conversion does not belong to you. God is the one who saves. Jesus is the one who builds His church. Your responsibility is faithfulness.
So pray for an opportunity. Look for the people God has already placed around you. Listen to their stories. Ask thoughtful questions. And when the opportunity comes, don't let fear keep you silent.
Know the gospel. Pray for opportunities. Love people well. And when God opens the door, open your mouth.
The Difference Between Worship and a Worship Experience | Caleb McGehee
2026/09/04
What is the difference between true worship and simply having a worship experience? In this episode of Rooted in the Gospel, MaCarly Zoellick sits down with Caleb McGehee, church elder and worship leader, for a deeper conversation about what it means to worship God faithfully.
Together, they explore why biblical worship is so much more than singing, why worship begins with the heart, and how Scripture should shape both our personal and corporate worship. Caleb explains the biblical meaning behind worship, including the Hebrew shachah and Greek proskuneō, and shares why worship is ultimately a response of reverence, love, honor, and obedience to God.
The conversation also addresses worshiping in spirit and truth, choosing biblically sound worship songs, the difference between personal preferences and biblical convictions, and why knowing your Bible helps you discern whether what you're singing is actually true worship. You'll also hear about preparing your heart for corporate worship, avoiding a performance mindset, worshiping through different musical styles, and what worship teaches us about eternity.
If you're pursuing Bible Study, Spiritual Growth, and Christian Discipleship, this conversation will challenge you to look beyond the music and ask a deeper question: Am I responding rightly to the worth of God?

Behold: What Are You Really Looking At? | Good Good Daughter Women's Conference Bonus Ep
2026/08/29
Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, "What am I actually beholding?" In this special bonus episode, MaCarly shares the teaching she gave live at the Good Good Daughter women's conference, walking through Psalm 119:18 and the often-overlooked word "behold." Whether you're new to Bible study or you've been reading Scripture for decades, this episode invites you to slow down and consider what — or who — is truly shaping your gaze, your beliefs, and your life.
In this episode, you'll learn what it means to biblically "behold" God's word rather than simply read it, why the psalmist's prayer in Psalm 119:18 depends on God opening our eyes before we can ever see the wonders in His law, and how the practice of illumination invites both diligent study and humble dependence on the Holy Spirit. MaCarly walks through the structure and heart of Psalm 119, unpacks the psalmist's identity as God's servant and a sojourner, and shows how genuine Bible study for women isn't about becoming a "good enough" daughter — it's about knowing the Father who has already made us His through Christ.
This teaching is a beautiful picture of what it looks like to grow in spiritual maturity by returning again and again to God's word — not out of obligation, but as an invitation to know Him. If you're ready to move beyond surface-level reading and learn how to study the Bible in a way that draws you closer to God, this episode is for you.

Worship Is More Than Singing | What Biblical Worship Really Means
2026/08/28
What is true worship, and is worship really just singing on Sunday morning? In this episode of Rooted in the Gospel, MaCarly Zoellick explores what the Bible teaches about worship and why biblical worship is far greater than music, emotion, or a particular church experience.
You'll discover why worship begins with who God is, how Scripture shapes the way we worship, and why genuine worship must come from a heart focused on God. MaCarly also explains the connection between Bible study and worship, showing how knowing God through His Word leads to deeper worship and spiritual growth.
You'll also learn the difference between public and private worship, why our emotions don't determine whether God is worthy, and how worship becomes a spiritual discipline that must be intentionally cultivated. If you're seeking spiritual growth and want to grow in Christian discipleship through a deeper knowledge of God's Word, this episode will challenge you to move beyond simply attending worship and become a worshiper whose entire life responds to the worth of God.

💬 You don't have to wait until you feel worshipful to worship God. Your emotions will change, your circumstances will change, and your spiritual seasons will change—but God's worth never changes.
When your heart feels dry, don't run away from Him. Run toward Him. Open His Word and behold who He has revealed Himself to be. Remember His holiness, faithfulness, mercy, sovereignty, and grace. Then respond to Him—not because the music moved you, not because the atmosphere was powerful, and not because you feel particularly spiritual today, but because He is worthy.
Worship isn't simply something we attend on Sunday. It is the response of a life increasingly captivated by the worth of God.
Why Do We Struggle to Pray? | Growing in Prayer and Dependence on God
2026/08/21
Why do we struggle to pray, even when we know how important prayer is? In this episode of Rooted in the Gospel, MaCarly Zoellick begins a deeper look at prayer as a spiritual discipline, exploring why prayer can become difficult, inconsistent, or something we only turn to when life falls apart.
Together, you'll discover why prayer is much more than asking God for what we need. Prayer is communion with God, an expression of dependence, and an opportunity to draw near to the One who has already drawn near to us through Christ. MaCarly also explores how our view of God shapes our prayer life, why seasons of spiritual dryness don't mean God is distant, and how prayerlessness can sometimes reveal a deeper struggle with self-sufficiency.
If you want to grow in spiritual growth, Christian discipleship, prayer, and your relationship with God, this episode will encourage you to stop treating prayer as an emergency button and begin seeing it as an essential part of faithfully walking with Christ.

💬 The latter part of the episode particularly connects prayerlessness with self-sufficiency and challenges listeners to consider what they may have forgotten about God that has made prayer feel unnecessary.
There may be seasons when prayer feels easy and seasons when it feels difficult. You may sit down to pray and feel distracted, tired, or even spiritually dry. But your feelings do not determine God's presence. He is faithful even when you don't feel close to Him.
Prayer is not about performing perfectly before God. It is the privilege of coming to Him because of what Christ has already accomplished for us. You don't have to have the perfect words. You simply have to come. Bring your fears, your needs, your gratitude, your questions, and your weakness to Him. The God who knows you completely invites you to depend on Him completely.
Reading Scripture vs. Meditating on It | What’s the Difference?
2026/08/14
In this episode of Rooted in the Gospel, MaCarly Zoellick continues the conversation on Bible intake by exploring three often-overlooked ways to engage deeply with God's Word: memorizing Scripture, meditating on Scripture, and applying Scripture to everyday life.
You'll discover why Scripture memory matters for spiritual strength, how biblical meditation is different from simply emptying your mind, and practical ways to slow down and think deeply about God's Word. MaCarly also shares a simple framework for moving Scripture from your eyes to your mind, from your mind to your heart, and ultimately into the way you live.
If you want to learn how to study the Bible, meditate God's way, and develop a deeper relationship with God through His Word, this episode will give you practical tools to help Scripture move beyond information and become transformation.

God's Word was never meant to simply pass through our eyes and disappear from our minds. As we read, memorize, meditate on, and apply Scripture, God's truth begins to shape the way we think, speak, and live. You don't have to memorize an entire book of the Bible overnight or perfectly understand everything you read. Start with one verse. Slow down. Think deeply. Pray God's Word back to Him. Let His truth take root in your heart, trusting the Holy Spirit to use it to make you more like Christ.

2026/07/31
What is spiritual formation, and how does God transform believers into the likeness of Christ? In this episode of Rooted in the Gospel, MaCarly Zoellick begins a brand-new series on spiritual disciplines, explaining why spiritual growth is not about earning God's love but about being transformed by His grace.

If you've ever wondered how to study the Bible with the goal of knowing God more deeply—not simply gaining knowledge—this episode lays the theological foundation for a life of faithful spiritual growth.
