Why Creeds Still Matter Today
2026/10/22
Historic creeds continue to serve the church by summarizing biblical truth, strengthening unity, helping believers recognize false teaching, and passing sound doctrine to future generations. In this episode of Contending for the Word Q&A, Dave Jenkins considers Ephesians 4:11–14 and 2 Timothy 2:2 to explain why creeds remain useful today. Their value rests in their faithfulness to Scripture. The Bible alone is our final authority, and every creed, confession, and teaching must be tested by God's Word. 1 Chronicles
2026/10/21
This sermon explores the distinct theological perspective of the books of Chronicles compared to Samuel and Kings, highlighting how Chronicles serves as an encouragement to post-exilic Israel by focusing on the temple rather than the throne. The central message emphasizes that while God is just and will not clear the guilty, He is also rich in mercy, a duality fulfilled in the person and work of Jesus Christ. By examining David's devotion to worship and his preparation for the temple, the text illustrates that God's presence and proper worship are more vital to a nation's prosperity than political power alone. The genealogies and historical accounts are presented not as mere repetition, but as a cohesive narrative pointing to Christ, who fulfills the offices of prophet, priest, and king. Ultimately, the sermon calls believers to rest in God's sovereignty and to pursue a life of faithful stewardship and praise, trusting in His faithfulness to fulfill His promises.

Four Dynamics of the Will of God
2026/10/21
The Four Dynamics of the Will of God Psalm 33:6–22 This message explores four essential dynamics of God's will—His purposeful, permissive, providential, and prescriptive will—revealing how God's eternal purposes govern creation while His grace invites believers to participate in His work. Psalm 33 reminds us that God spoke the heavens into existence, and what He determines cannot be defeated, interrupted, or overthrown. His counsel stands forever, regardless of the plans, decisions, or opposition of fallen humanity. God's purposeful will is His perfect, unchanging, and unstoppable eternal plan. His permissive will allows humanity to make choices, even when those choices contradict His revealed desires. His providential will demonstrates His sovereign ability to govern, redirect, and overrule human plans so that His eternal purposes are never defeated. His prescriptive will is what He has graciously revealed through His Word, instructing His people how to live in fellowship with Him. Through this revealed will, God's grace is designed to guide us, govern us, and guard us, bringing our thoughts, desires, decisions, and relationships into agreement with His wisdom. The message emphasizes that spiritual maturity and completeness in Christ cannot be achieved through human effort or independent thinking. We need God's Word, His Spirit, and His grace continually working in us. Rather than merely asking God to bless our plans, we must yield ourselves to His purposes, trusting Him to establish His truth in our hearts and reveal the character of Jesus through our lives. This surrender also strengthens our fellowship with one another as we pray, serve, and encourage each other t
Christ Became a Curse for Us
2026/10/21
There is perhaps no other truth which is so hard to learn as is this; that trying to keep God's holy law will not bring you into favor with God. Instead, we read here, it brings a curse. By nature, most people just think that if they just become religious enough; if they will try their hardest to do and keep God's commandments, then surely God will honor their good intentions, and He will save them and bring them to heaven at the last. But the Apostle Paul has been showing us in this letter that it is utterly impossible for any person to save themselves from their sins, whether they are a Jew, or whether they are a Gentile. You can only be saved from your sins by faith in Jesus Christ. And the law is not of faith. Therefore, in these verses, we find Paul explaining for us how we are saved from our sins. 1st of all – Christ saves us by redeeming us from the curse of the Law having become a curse for us. And then, 2nd – Christ became a curse for us so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Let's look more deeply into these things together now, so that we might understand the greatness of what Christ has done for us.

Found Faithful…
2026/10/21
Found Faithful — Servants, Stewards, and the God Who Gives the Increase 1 Corinthians 3:5–23; 4:1–21 This message emphasizes the believer's calling to live as a humble servant and faithful steward of Jesus Christ, recognizing that everything we have, everything we know, and every opportunity to serve comes from God's grace. Using Paul's correction of the Corinthian church, we see the danger of elevating human personalities, seeking personal recognition, and allowing pride to divide God's people. Paul reminds us that servants are not competitors but fellow laborers in God's kingdom. One may plant and another may water, but God alone gives the increase. The message highlights the distinction between a servant and a steward. A servant understands whom he belongs to, while a steward faithfully manages what has been entrusted to him. Both require humility, surrender, and an unwavering commitment to the interests of Jesus above personal ambitions. Timothy serves as a beautiful example of this faithfulness. Having learned Paul's ways in Christ, he demonstrated proven character, genuine concern for others, and consistency in communicating God's truth wherever he served. Drawing from Philippians 2 and Colossians 4, the message stresses that effective ministry requires more than knowledge or ability. It demands continual dependence upon the Lord, prayer for open doors, and a commitment to communicating His Word with accuracy, authority, affection, and grace. God's servants must not merely explain His truth but allow that truth to transform their own lives, enabling them to faithfully represent Jesus to others. Ultimately, this message calls every believer to stop measuring use
