Can We Still Believe in a 6-Day Creation?
2026/10/15
Did God create the world only six thousand years ago, in the space of six days, and all very good? Does the Bible even speak on this issue? And does it matter? Kevin Swanson and Joshua Schwisow investigate the age of the earth in scripture, why it is so controversial today – and what difference it makes to both biblical doctrine and natural revelation… - Why the fifth commandment requires a six-day creation week - Epistemological authority and who is really the high priest of knowledge in our day: the scientist, or Christ? - Are the gap theory, day-age theory, and framework hypothesis exegetically reasonable? - The surprising amount of dating information in scripture, and what it reveals about the age of the earth - Why even Charles Hodge believed in an old earth – and what to think about it Got a topic you want us to cover? The Playbook for Life
2026/10/11
This sermon introduces the book of Proverbs by examining its purpose as stated in the opening verses, emphasizing that wisdom is the godly application of knowledge rather than mere intellectual accumulation. The speaker highlights the covenantal context of Solomon's authorship and the necessity of discernment to properly apply biblical principles in a complex world. Key themes include the distinction between justice, judgment, and equity, as well as the role of parental instruction in shaping character, drawing from the Westminster Larger Catechism's exposition of the Fifth Commandment. The teaching urges believers to approach Scripture with humility and reverential fear, recognizing that the fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge. Ultimately, the sermon presents Proverbs as an eternal resource that equips both the inexperienced and the wise to grow in righteousness and reflect Christ's character.

Slaying Sacred Cows with the Sword of Truth: Matthew 15:1-20
2026/09/20
In Matthew 15:1–20, Jesus directly confronts the scribes and Pharisees for elevating human traditions above God's commandments. Their religious system looked spiritual, but it produced empty worship, hypocrisy, and disobedience. In this message, Pastor Brandon examines the Pharisaic traditions surrounding ritual handwashing, Corban, and the principle of eruv. These practices show how religious leaders could combine biblical concepts with human reasoning to create legal loopholes that let people appear obedient while avoiding genuine surrender to God. The same danger exists within Christianity today. Believers can misuse grace, Christian liberty, prayer, ministry, personal feelings, and even biblical truth to excuse disobedience. Saying, "God knows my heart," "I prayed about it," or "I'm serving God" cannot replace submission to the clear teaching of Scripture. Jesus called the Pharisees "blind leaders of the blind." When human tradition replaces divine revelation, both the leaders and those following them eventually fall into the ditch. Truth has no sacred cows. Genuine spirituality does not ask, "How can I appear obedient without surrendering?" It asks, "What does God's Word require, and how can I faithfully obey it?" #SlayingSacredCows #TruthOverTradition #Matthew15 #TraditionsOfMen #WordOfGod #ChristianLoopholes #BiblicalTruth #JesusChrist #Pharisees #Corban #ReligiousHypocrisy #ChristianObedience #BibleTeaching #Sermon #RockHarborChurch #BrandonHolthaus

WHEN YOU’RE WALKING IN HIGH COTTON
2026/09/09
WHEN YOU'RE WALKING IN HIGH COTTON. [DON'T FORGET GOD WHEN LIFE GETS GOOD] Deuteronomy 8:10–18 KJV This message is named after an old Southern expression describing a season when life is going well and blessings are plentiful. In Deuteronomy 8, Israel stood on the edge of the Promised Land after forty years in the wilderness. God was about to replace their wandering with abundance, but Moses warned them of a danger they might not expect: prosperity could cause them to forget the God they depended upon in adversity. There are three important truths from Deuteronomy 8: 1.remember where God brought you from, 2.be careful what you do when you get there, and 3.never forget who owns the cotton field. Every ability, opportunity, possession, answered prayer, and blessing ultimately comes from the hand of God. Sometimes the greatest test of faith is not how we respond when everything goes wrong, but how we live when everything goes right. Whether we are struggling through a wilderness, waiting for a harvest, or walking in high cotton, we still need God. And above every earthly blessing stands the greatest blessing of all—salvation through Jesus Christ. A person can gain everything this world offers and still lose his soul. Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, rose again, and will save everyone who calls upon Him by faith. When you're walking in high cotton, enjoy the blessing—but never forget the Blesser.

Submitting in Love
2026/08/30
This sermon explores the fifth commandment, expanding its scope beyond parental relationships to encompass all lawful earthly authorities. The preacher argues that true biblical submission requires a heart subdued to Christ, as rebellion against lawful human authority ultimately reflects a rejection of God's sovereignty. By examining scriptural examples from Exodus and 1 Peter, the message emphasizes that honoring leaders is an act of faith and love toward God, mirroring the perfect submission of Jesus Christ. The central theme urges believers to display a heart ruled by grace rather than rebellious lust, thereby witnessing to the world through peaceful and obedient conduct.
