Wishing Train, Desert Plain by Paul Asbury Seaman
2026/10/07
The Berlin-schoolification of my brain continues. A few years ago I came back to sequencer based Berlin-school music thanks to friend of the feed, Paul Asbury Seaman. The exact artist or moment has been lost in the mists of my mind (hmm, possible mix title "Mists of My Mind"?). But it was Paul who turned me on to the scene of modern sequencer driven music. Paul has consistently provided us with excellent "train" mixes that feature heavy doses of Berlin-school tracks. That brings us to his latest mix - Wishing Train, Desert Plain, a beautiful journey of hypnotic synth sequences. Here's what Paul has to say about this latest entry in his train themed mixes: "A train-themed mix is inherently about journeys. Like much of ambient-electronic music, that journey is more than imagination, memories and nostalgia. It is an invitation to explore inner landscapes. Although some of my train mixes are intended to provoke a sense of excitement and adventure, traveling to new places, I mostly have in mind the long, quiet spaces beyond city life, with no distractions, the subtle rhythm of the train inducing a meditative state, a time of calm reflection, inner stillness or focus. All tracks 2026 except “Critical Zone.” Cover image by Austrian synth maestro Fritz Mayr, commissioned specifically for this mix. Thank you, Mr. Mayr for your generous services (and generous heart!) Whoever says friendships we make on the internet are not real has not experienced the vibrant village life of the ambient/electronic cohort on Bandcamp and elsewhere." This is another fairly straightforward mix theme. It dives back into tribal ambient featuring hypnotic, repetitive drums, electronics, traditional percussion, and field recordings. I've done several of these mixes over the years and it's always nice to revisit this style.  I first got into this subgenre back in the 90s with the Steve Roach & Robert Rich album, "Strata." Like many musical phases, I overloaded on it and dismissed it for years. But now I really enjoy dipping into the sound every now and then.   LINKS TO ALL THE MUSIC USED IN THIS MIX: https://anotherfineday.bandcamp.com/album/life-before-land https://whitelabrecs.bandcamp.com/album/pacifica https://elikeszler.bandcamp.com/album/harka-ost https://sonicturtle.bandcamp.com/album/drift https://projektrecords.bandcamp.com/album/tree-of-life https://open.spotify.com/album/1lyRvVarASVKYuOPRazbt8?si=HiM2POs8R3i73L_H3WuXyA https://byronmetcalf.bandcamp.com/album/spiral-exchange https://bluelizard.bandcamp.com/album/where-are-they-and-other-stories https://hubertdupont.bandcamp.com/album/trio-kosmos-3 https://johannaknutsson.bandcamp.com/album/dingsbums-homage https://mindovermidi.bandcamp.com/album/never-leave   Cheers!   T R A C K L I S T : 00:00   Another Fine Day - Life Before Land (Life Before Land 1994) 06:25   Glasbird - Lokoteraina (pacifica 2023) 09:00   Vir Unis - Everthing Seeks Balance Pt. 2 (Pulseworld 2007) 16:22   Eli Keszler - Protest (Harka OST 2024) 18:05   Adham Shaikh & Tim Floyd - Estuary (Drift 1996) 25:25   Loren Nerell & Mark Seelig - Kayon (Tree of Life 2014) 32:20   Meh Met - Catacombia (Aludu Flow 2022) 35:15   Byron Metcalf - Spirits Of The Dreambody (Spiral Exchange 2025) 41:56   David Kollar - Requiem for Uncle (Where are they and other stories 2023) 49:35   Hubert Dupont - Bathyscaphe (Trio Kosmos 2020) 52:30   Johanna Knutsson - Bernsteinsee (Dingsbums Homage 2022) 58:00   Mind over MIDI - Like a Bird (Never Leave 2021) 60:49   end

My shortwave mixes go back a long way. My first one was posted almost 20 years ago in April of 2007. Yikes! I love the sound of these mixes and I love creating them. I collect tracks that sound like they'd fit the theme and when I have enough to make a mix I get cracking. Here are all the previous shortwave mixes: https://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2007/04/drift-on-signal.html https://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2008/06/ghost-in-phase.html https://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2010/04/flicker-fade.html https://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2011/03/distant-transmissions.html https://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2012/05/on-behavior-of-radio-waves.html https://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2023/04/lost-in-transmission.html While this mix uses some actual shortwave recordings, it relies more on the individual tracks to provide the radio transmission vibes. And of course snippets of The Conet Project have to find their way into any shortwave mix. I hope you enjoy this latest transmission from the ether.   LINKS TO THE MUSIC USED IN THIS MIX: https://citiesandmemory.bandcamp.com/album/shortwave-transmissions https://andycartwright.bandcamp.com/album/below-the-noise https://shortwavetransmission.bandcamp.com/album/land-fire-shortwave-transmission-2 https://marcus-fischer.bandcamp.com/album/loss https://steveroden.bandcamp.com/album/chair-a-subscape-of-resonance https://htdc.bandcamp.com/album/soft-ruins https://shortwavemusic.bandcamp.com/album/cq-de-shortwavemusic-vol-1 https://dagrosenqvist.bandcamp.com/album/geographers-of-solitude https://lineimprint.bandcamp.com/album/here https://andrewheath.bandcamp.com/album/signals-and-codes https://offthesky.bandcamp.com/album/form-radio https://paulbeaudoin.bandcamp.com/album/signal-loss https://spacehoneyrecords.bandcamp.com/album/retrofilament https://theradius.us/episode42 https://thehumblebee.bandcamp.com/album/morning-music-2   Cheers!     T R A C K L I S T : 00:00   Moray Newlands - The fragility of d-tente (Cities and Memory - Shortwave Transmissions 2022) 01:00   Andy Cartwright - On a Clear Day (Below The Noise 2023) 04:00   Land:Fire - Circularly Polarized I (Shortwave Transmission 2009) 05:25   Marcus Fischer - Loss (Loss 2017) 09:45   Steve Roden - Rust (chair (a subscape of resonance) 1999) 11:00   How To Disappear Completely - Memory Landscapes (Soft Ruins 2026) 12:40   IRIB Radio Iran Ardabil - 1269 kHz, 8_11_10(2241UTC) (The Clouds Should Know Me By Now: ShortWaveMusic 2005-2010 2011) 14:20   Dag RosenqVIst - Dread (Geographers Of Solitude 2024) 17:55   Triac - here part III (Here) 19:55   Andrew Heath - Signals(transmitters and receivers) (Signals and Codes 2025) 28:20   offthesky - form.radio 3 (form.radio 2025) 30:30   offthesky - form.radio 5 (form.radio 2025) 36:45   Paul Beaudoin - Signal Path Deviation (Signal Loss 2026) 39:37   J46+2 - Retrofilament (Retrofilament 2025) 45:05   Myke Dodge Weiskopf - All Night Flight (shortwave music episode 42 2013) 49:00   Humble Bee - Track 04 (Morning Music 2010) 51:00   Tetsu Inoue - Man Made Heaven (Slow And Low 1995) 53:54   low light mixes - Memories of Johann (2018) 57:24   end
Dystopian Dream
2026/09/09
I'm not sure how this mix started. It was probably just a case of me stumbling across a tune that made me think of a dystopian sci-fi movie and from there I collected tracks over a few years. From what I can tell, I started gathering songs 6 years ago.  I wasn't sure what the mix would sound like when I started laying down the tracks. As it began to take shape I realized it kind of sounded like one of my Blade Runner mixes. It definitely has some of that vibe but I think it's different enough to be it's own thing. I'm very happy with how this one turned out especially considering I didn't have much a plan at the beginning.   LINKS TO THE MUSIC USED IN THIS MIX: https://juneunit.bandcamp.com/album/s-t https://pyecorneraudio.bandcamp.com/album/black-mill-tapes-10th-anniversary-box https://riechmann.bandcamp.com/album/wunderbar https://affin.bandcamp.com/album/saw https://anthologyrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/unusual-sounds https://northernelectronics.bandcamp.com/album/winter-ashes https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/album/void-rituals https://anaroxanne.bandcamp.com/album/because-of-a-flower-2 https://abulmogardecstatic.bandcamp.com/album/kimberlin-original-soundtrack https://isaacsymonds.bandcamp.com/album/natura-sophia-lp https://timhecker.bandcamp.com/album/shards https://noton.info/product/n-061/ https://gazelletwin.bandcamp.com/album/welcome-to-the-blumhouse-nocturne-amazon-original-soundtrack-2 https://vactrolpark.bandcamp.com/album/music-from-the-luminous-void https://cortini.bandcamp.com/album/memorie-i https://arovane.bandcamp.com/album/gestalt   Cheers!   T R A C K L I S T : 00:00   juneunit - lude (juneunit 2019) 04:35   Pye Corner Audio - Theme Number Five (Black Mill Tapes Vol. 5: The Lost 2020) 08:10   Riechmann - Traumzeit (Wunderbar 1978) 09:23   Absis - Floating In The Soul (Saw 2023) 15:01   Klaus Weiss - Survivor (Unusual Sound 2018) 17:42   Anthony Linell - The Norns of Fate (Winter Ashes 2021) 19:18   Ruptured World - Prophecies of the Vision Zero (Void Rituals 2024) 23:05   Ana Roxanne - A Study in Vastness (Because of a Flower 2020) 29:10   Abul Mogard - I Watched The Sea The Fields The Sky (Kimberlin 2019) 32:12   Isaac Symonds, Yaehsun - Natura Sophia (Natura Sophia 2021) 35:45   Tim Hecker - Joyride Alternate (Shards 2025) 39:39   Alva Noto - HYbr ID Ectopia Elastic 2 (HYbr:ID II 2023) 45:50   Gazelle Twin - Golden Light (Welcome to the Blumhouse - Nocturne: Original Soundtrack) 48:20   Vactrol Park - Glove (Music from the Luminous Void 2018) 54:00   Alessandro Cortini - Come Prima (Memorie I 2020) 60:36   arovane - evvr (gestalt 2020) 62:18   end
A Thousand Dreams by Roquen Lómë
2026/08/26
I've said many times here that one reason I like hosting guest mixes is because they bring a diversity of styles and choices different from my regular offerings. This latest set from Roquen Lómë accomplishes that beautifully. This mix is lush and gorgeous in a way many of mixes are not. Playing this mix is like a breath of fresh air. Roquen Lómë says: "My last mix was so long in the making that it became sort of a trip to the past. So for this musical journey I wanted to stay as present as possible. But then again, music is timeless, and so are dreams. The *thousand* theme arose naturally while selecting the tracks aiming for more ambient and less vocal vibe. No lyrics this time - only dreamscapes."   Thanks for this lovely mix!   LINKS TO ALL THE MUSIC USED IN THIS MIX: Aret Madilian Seabuckthorn Drombeg & Zenjungle Mary Lattimore & Julianna Barwick Pan American Arash Sanee Elori Saxl & Henry Solomon Glacis & Adrian Lane Park Jiha Christian Löffler Aukai Thme Hammock Sophie Hutchings Poppy Ackroyd Øystein Skar   Cheers!   T R A C K L I S T : 00:00 Aret Madilian - Sirius (The Abbey Project 2022) 03:45 Seabuckthorn - Shadow Of The Land (A Path Within A Path 2025) 06:40 Drombeg & Zenjungle - A Thousand Nights (Earthworks 2016) 12:54 Mary Lattimore & Julianna Barwick - Perpetual Adoration (Tragic Magic 2026) 18:10 Pan American - Silver Plane, Now  Boarding (Fly the Ocean in a Silver Plane 2026) 21:29 Arash Sanee - Inside (Inside 2022) 25:34 Elori Saxl & Henry Solomon - A Thousand Steps (Seeing Is Forgetting 2026) 29:40 Glacis & Adrian Lane - Beneath The Waves Many Times Over (We Linger Where We Fell 2026) 32:50 Park Jiha - Blown Leaves (All Living Things 2025) 37:40 Christian Löffler - Pastoral (Parallels 2021) 41:10 Aukai - Vulture (Chambers 2026) 44:20 Thme - A Thousand Thrills (Sleeplaboratory3.0 2022) 48:35 Hammock - Requiem For Johan (Nevertheless 2025) 52:40 Sophie Hutchings - Sleeping Giant (Become the Sky 2025) 55:18 Poppy Ackroyd - For Those Who Wait (Liminal 2026) 61:10 Øystein Skar - Stok (Hem 2025) 65:22 end
Slow Sequences
2026/08/19
This mix is pretty straightforward - it's a collection of Berlin-school style tracks where the arpeggio is relatively slow. I don't know what the actual BPMs are but these tracks are not the driving sequences usually associated with Berlin-school music. They unfold at a more languid, chill pace. I was very happy to be able to include the track "Wenn der Südwind weht" by Roedelius in this mix as it's one of my favorite electronic tracks of all time.  LINKS TO ALL THE MSUIC USED IN THIS MIX: https://arstraumur.bandcamp.com/album/deep-space-travellers https://phelios.bandcamp.com/album/dawn-of-time https://open.spotify.com/album/1LkfDTSn7UnbYXA4yFVPPN?si=wkk9zxYNS3-BzQuQbld_lg https://roedelius-official.bandcamp.com/album/wenn-der-s-dwind-weht https://domeniquedumont.bandcamp.com/album/people-on-sunday https://balmat.bandcamp.com/album/psychic-geography https://lornadune.bandcamp.com/album/sequential-dreaming https://2fel.bandcamp.com/album/stranger-flow https://ultimae.bandcamp.com/album/onwards-system https://grauglanz.bandcamp.com/album/hasardeur https://abstrakce.bandcamp.com/album/una-teor-a-del-ritmo https://rudyadrianongroove.bandcamp.com/album/concerts-in-the-usa https://jonhopkins.bandcamp.com/album/ritual   Cheers!   T R A C K L I S T : 00:00   Árstraumur - Europa Clipper (Deep Space Travellers 2024) 05:15   Martin Stürtzer - Radiance (Dawn of Time 2024) 10:15   ObukhovAUDIO - Soft Landing on Nowhere (Kosmische Musik 2025) 16:00   Roedelius - Wenn der Südwind weht (Wenn der Südwind Weht 1981) 19:57   Domenique Dumont - Rituals (People on Sunday 2020) 22:43   DoVs - Psychic Geography (Psychic Geography 2025) 26:40   Lorna Dune - Arising (Sequential Dreaming 2025) 30:03   2fel - revisited (stranger flow 2024) 36:36   CELL - Fugitive Perpetuity (Onwards System 2022) 41:24   Grauglanz - schmelzwasser (hasardeur 2026) 49:33   Mecánica Clásica - Agógica (Una Teoría Del Ritmo 2026) 53:00   Rudy Adrian - Turquoise(Dunedin, New Zealand) (Concerts In The USA 2003) 57:10   Jon Hopkins & Vylana - part ii - palace / illusion (RITUAL 2024) 64:20   end
Painting the Sky - Music for the Perseid Meteor Shower 2026
2026/08/12
The annual Perseid Meteor shower is a great excuse to create a mix of spacey ambient music that is perfect for stargazing. The best viewing nights will be August 12 & 13. I believe there will be a new moon this year so we should have nice, dark skies for viewing.   I've done several of these in the past which you can find here: https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/music-for-the-perseid-meteor-shower/ https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/perfect-perseid-playlist/ https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/soundtrack-for-perseid-meteor-shower-2025/   This mix is almost all music from 2026, with the opening track from 2025. Ambient Summer by Daniel Hawkins
2026/08/06
The summer of guest mixes continues with an awesome set from friend of the show, Daniel Hawkins. He has created several mixes for us in the past and you can find them here: https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/amiably-ambient-by-daniel-hawkins/ https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/the-silence-between-by-daniel-hawkins/ https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/wabi-sabi-by-daniel-hawkins/ https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/dark-woods-by-daniel-hawkins/ https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/metallic-memories/   Daniel says the mix is pretty straightforward - "it's a mix to play on the long summer days - light and easy - no cosmic theme." Wandering Realms by Seabuckthorn
2026/07/30
I have been a fan of Seabuckthorn for a long time. I think I have around a dozen or so releases. So when Andy Cartwright, who records as Seabuckthorn, offered to create a guest mix I was psyched. Andy did an excellent guest mix for LLM back in November of 2022 which you can find here: https://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2022/11/seabuckthorn-transcendental-freq.html  or here: https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/seabuckthorn-transcendental-freq/   There is a new Seabuckthorn album out in the world - https://seabuckthorn.bandcamp.com/album/never-the-same-river  So it's a perfect time for a mix to highlight some of the music that influenced the new album. Andy said this about the mix: "It has a kind of ritual/ceremonial/psych folk vibe to it, which was the feel I was going for in my latest album."   I highly recommend checking out the new album and of course listening to this very cool mix. Also I think it's kind of hilarious that we followed a 4-hour mix with a 36-minute mix. Faru - Summer Of Resonance
2026/07/22
Most mixes posted here are around one hour in length. There needs to be a good reason to go well beyond that time. Well, this guest mix is a good reason to go long. This set comes to us from Faru - https://faru.bandcamp.com/music He has done a bunch of mixes over the years including for the Deep Breakfast series & Silent Season's Campfire Stories. You can find those mixes here - https://soundcloud.com/faruambient/sets/my-mixes Here's what he says about this 4-hour set: "The sun comes through the leaves in pieces, slow shifting fragments that move across your skin like something deliberate. The air smells of warm grass and blooming, that specific fullness when everything is happening at once. Pollen drifts through the light, weightless, golden, the leaves quietly dancing. Birds in the canopy. Voices not close enough to make out, just the shape of people being easy with each other, flowing past like part of the same current. The specific gravity and warm energy of another being, close. Three hours passing, or maybe more. Your breathing has slowed to match something you can't name but can feel. You are not waiting for anything. Just here, inside this particular moment. Which turns out to be everything." Faru said he likes a 4-hour mix because he wants the music to start being the environment. This mix envelopes you and does become part of the surrounding space. Thanks for a great mix! Under a Heat Dome
2026/07/16
It's been hot as hell here lately thanks to what the meteorologists are calling a "heat dome." Add in some smoke drifting in from Canadian wildfires and it makes being outdoors no fun. I wondered about hot weather music and thought slightly twangy, acoustic and electric guitar fits the mood. There's just something about these tracks that feels right for an oppressively hot day. I like this collection because it covers a wide range of years from 1984 to 2026, with stops in 1998, 2000, 2005, 2011, 2014, 2024, & 2025. I hope you enjoy the mix and stay cool. Just My Type(records)
2026/06/19
Recently I was messaging with LLM guest mixer, Roquen Lómë, about Type records - an experimental record label that was active from 2003 to 2013. Founded by John Twells & Stefan Lewandowski in the U.K., Type released some creative music in those ten years ranging from delicate piano to sculptured noise to glitchy electronica to ambient to psych folk. I thought it would be fun to create a mix of music from Type records catalog - then I looked at that catalog and, wow they sure did release a ton of music. There's no way to make an exhaustive review of their releases so I decided to go chronologically through some of my favorites. That still only scratched the surface, I think I have more than 40 Type records in my collection.  It was nice listening to some of the recordings for the first time in years and I hope you too enjoy this little trip into the past. The Joy of Trains by Paul Asbury Seaman
2026/06/03
Another train mix? Another Berlin-school mix? Yes and hell yes! I've been struggling to keep up with creating new mixes and then, like a train pulling into the station right on time, Paul comes to me with a new mix. Perfect timing! This one has tunes that are all fairly recent so it was fun to hear new stuff or discover new artists. I'm always up for new Berlin-school music and this set from Paul does that with long, evolving tracks that suck you in and keep you going. Here's what Paul says about his latest collection: "I expect that for people who commute to work by train, there’s not much novelty in it. But most of my train-themed mixes imagine a long-distance trip where the journey itself is the experience and the destination somewhere in your imagination. As I’ve said before, sequencer-based “Berlin School” synthesizer music is a natural fit to evoke the subtle, hypnotic rhythms of travel by train. The six artists in this set were all new to me this year—and what a joy it has been to discover them." Thanks again, Paul, for this wonderful collection of train tracks. Quiet Fusion 2026
2026/05/28
A little over a year ago I posted a mix of quiet fusion jazz tunes which I really enjoyed curating. So it was only a matter of time before I made another and here it is. This mix has some of the same artists as the first one - Mile Davis, Soft Machine, Gong, Jean-Luc Ponty, Brand X, along with new additions. Not surprisingly, most of the tracks are from the 1970s, a few from the 80s and one new track by Elephant9 released in 2024. Here's the first quiet fusion mix - https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/quiet-fusion/ I still plan on doing a straightforward fusion mix but for now this quiet set will do nicely. It's perfect early morning coffee music. WABI SABI by Daniel Hawkins
2026/05/14
I've been super busy lately so it's perfect timing for another wonderful guest mix from friend of the feed, Daniel Hawkins. Daniel has done 4 mixes for LLM, each of them a great ambient journey. You can find them here: Amiably Ambient The Silence Between Dark Woods Metallic Memories   "This one takes some thoughtful curating to come up with such a cohesive set. Here what Daniel has to say about the mix:   "Wabi Sabi conveys feelings of desolation and solitude. Within Mahayana Buddhism these can be considered positive traits, representing release from the material world and the possibility of transcendence to a simpler life. As Mahayana philosophy emphasizes direct experience over verbal explanation, Wabi Sabi may be best understood in a non-verbal, experiential way. According to Richard Powell, "Wabi Sabi nurtures all that is authentic by acknowledging three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect." Many forms of Japanese art have been influenced by Zen and Mahayana philosophy over the past thousand years. The contemplation and acceptance of imperfection, as well as the awareness of constant flux and impermanence, have been particularly important to Japanese arts and culture. Awareness of the transience of all things heightens appreciation of their beauty, and evokes a gentle sadness at their passing. So I’d been working on this mix for months - adding metallophonic cuts that caught my fancy - as a follow up to last year’s Metallic Memories mix.  The mix got to over 3 hours - and I wasn’t sure Dave would be amused.  They were all good pieces of music - but I thought maybe a tighter focus would make a more cohesive mix.  As I trimmed it down the Wabi Sabi theme seemed to fit the mood and I think makes a nice set.  I hope you agree."   Thanks for another fantastic mix, Daniel.   Cheers!   [ s t r e a m ]    [ d o w n l o a d ]    [ a p p l e _ p o d c a s t s ]   T R A C K L I S T : 00:00   Anaamaly - I Am Inspired by Possibility (Urban Metta, Vol. 2 2017) 06:10   Masayoshi Fujita - As Dusk Falls(Feat.
