How Focusing on Academics Led to Kids Who Can’t Read
2026/10/20
US government schools are failing. There's been a 24-point drop in math skills since 2009, and a 14-point drop in reading skills just since 2018. Why? According to a recent study, it is not a failure of academics – the real issue is student behavior. Chaos and violence in the classroom is an everyday occurrence that makes teachers' jobs "almost impossible." Kevin Swanson and Daniel Craig discuss what scripture says should be done to reform education. They talk about… - The unambiguous reason that teachers themselves identify for kids' bad behavior: it's their parents' fault - The place of corporal punishment…and whether it can be delegated to babysitters or daycare workers - Why anyone should have been able to predict that bifurcating character and academics would lead to disaster - What should be done about teachers' job satisfaction dropping from 62% to 18% in only 15 years - The three fundamental pillars of successful education that must be constantly woven together – and how government schools split them apart instead Got a topic you want us to cover? Believing That Is Becoming
2026/10/20
Believing That Is Becoming 1 Corinthians 2–3 | Jeremiah 32:38–40 This message emphasizes that genuine faith in Jesus is more than believing something about Him; it is a believing that is continually becoming more like Him. Our believing affects our behavior, and our behavior reveals whether we're being led by the Spirit of God or governed by the desires of our flesh. Paul confronted the believers at Corinth because, although they had received the gospel and the wisdom of God, their jealousy, strife, and divisions exposed their spiritual immaturity. They were placing their confidence in gifted servants rather than recognizing that Paul, Apollos, and Peter were merely instruments through whom God was working. The servants planted and watered, but God gave the increase. The message reminds us that God has given us His Word and His Spirit, not merely to increase our knowledge, but to transform our lives. His wisdom teaches us to depend upon Him rather than our own understanding, producing humility, patience, purity, love, and a willingness to serve others without competition or offense. When we're Spirit-led, even life's difficulties and relationships become opportunities for God to accomplish His good purpose in us—conforming us to the image of Jesus. Drawing from Jeremiah 32:38–40, the message reveals God's desire to give His people one heart and one way, placing His fear within them so they will continually walk with Him. This reverence produces a lifestyle of dependence that blesses not only us but also those who come after us. Ultimately, the great evidence of our believing is who and what we're becoming. When we receive God's Word, yield to His Spirit, and trust Je

Excursus: Human Distinctions in the New Creation - Male/Female
2026/10/18
As with Jew/Gentile and master/slave relationships, male/female relationships among believers must also be defined and governed by the realities of the new creation inaugurated with Jesus' resurrection. This applies to Christian marriages, but also to the Church's life and ministration as it is Jesus' fullness. This message is the first of two dealing with the male/female question, and it examines broad scriptural considerations that are fundamental for forming a biblical theology of male/female relationships in the new creation.
A House of Presence
2026/10/18
This is a very significant day in the life of our congregation together. Perhaps the most significant day came way back in 2009, seventeen years ago, when we gathered for worship as a church for the very first time. That was the day we were established. Another significant day was in April 2016, when we became a particular church, one recognized by the presbytery as self-governing through its own plurality of local elders. Now, more than a decade after that moment, we arrive at the morning of worship together in a building that we can call our own. We have crossed the desert. We have pitched and taken down the tabernacle for the last time. This morning, like Solomon did so long ago, we gather in a permanent structure and praise our God for His faithfulness to His Son and to us. We are His temple, and in His generosity, He has provided a permanent place in which we can gather to worship Him. We are the temple of God, who dwells in our building because He dwells in us.
Dispensationalism vs. Covenantalism
2026/10/18
This sermon examines the theological distinction between dispensationalism and covenant theology, arguing that the core disagreement lies in hermeneutics rather than specific eschatological details. It defines dispensationalism as a system that views history through distinct eras of divine administration, maintaining a clear separation between Israel and the church, while describing covenant theology as a framework emphasizing the continuity of a single covenant of grace. The speaker defends the dispensational view by advocating for a grammatical-historical method that reads Scripture forward, preserving the original meaning and recipients of God's promises rather than reinterpreting them through later New Testament revelation. By citing passages such as Genesis 12 and Acts 1, the message illustrates how this interpretive approach impacts doctrines like the kingdom, baptism, and church governance. Ultimately, the sermon calls for humility and a commitment to handling God's Word faithfully, asserting that confidence in Scripture's clarity and consistency is essential for every believer.
Does God Get Angry with His Children (True Believers)?
2026/10/18
Has modern Christianity created a version of God who never gets angry with His own children? In an age when biblical masculinity, fatherly authority, and accountability are increasingly under attack, even our understanding of God's character has been distorted. Modern psychology and feminism have helped undermine the biblical role of fathers, while popular religious teaching often portrays God as a Father who is never angry with His children, regardless of their disobedience. But what does the Bible actually teach? Scripture commands, "Be ye angry, and sin not" (Ephesians 4:26). There is sinful anger, but there is also righteous anger. This message examines how much of today's parenting substitutes repeated threats, frustration, yelling, and uncontrolled anger for consistent biblical discipline. God's pattern of the rod and reproof, administered calmly and lovingly, teaches children to obey without endless arguments and threats, bringing peace and rest to the home. Yet there are also times when anger itself is justified, provided it remains governed by righteousness. And what about our heavenly Father? The Scriptures repeatedly reveal that God became angry with His own people. Paul specifically tells New Testament believers that these Old Testament accounts were written as warnings for US! From Israel's rebellion in the wilderness to the solemn warnings of Hebrews, Corinthians, and the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Bible presents a sobering truth: God's love does not mean He is indifferent to the sins of His children. But the message does not end with God's anger. There is a wonderful difference between God's temporary displeasure and His everlasting covenant love!
Intro 2: A Surprising Hero
2026/10/18
PM sermons are preceded by a Confessional, Catechism, Historic Creed lesson, or a lesson from the NT (Usually 5 minutes or so) WCF 5:1 God, the great Creator of all things, doth uphold, direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things, from the greatest even to the least, by his most wise and holy providence, according to his infallible fore-knowledge and the free and immutable counsel of his own will, to the praise of the glory of his wisdom, power, justice, goodness, and mercy. 2 Although in relation to the foreknowledge and decree of God, the first cause, all things come to pass immutably and infallibly, yet by the same providence he ordereth them to fall out, according to the nature of second causes, either necessarily, freely, or contingently. 7 As the providence of God doth, in general, reach to all creatures, so, after a most special manner, it taketh care of his Church, and disposeth all things to the good thereof Is 45:1 Thus says the Lord to His anointed, To Cyrus, whose right hand I have held— To subdue nations before him And loose the armor of kings, To open before him the double doors, So that the gates will not be shut: 2 'I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron. 3 I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places, That you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel. 4 For Jacob My servant's sake, And Israel My elect, I have even called you by your name; I have named you, though you have not known Me. 5 I am the Lord, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though...
Faith Untested Is Faith Untrustworthy | Daniel 1:1–13, 18–21
2026/10/18
Daniel 1:1–13, 18–21 Daniel's experience in Babylon demonstrates the importance of establishing godly convictions before facing the pressure to compromise. Taken captive from Judah and placed in the service of a foreign king, Daniel encountered a culture that threatened to reshape his identity and allegiance. Yet Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself. His decision illustrates that faithfulness begins with an inward commitment to obey God. When confronted with a difficult situation, Daniel responded with wisdom and respect while remaining steadfast in his convictions. The account continues with a test that demonstrated Daniel and his companions' faithfulness and God's favor upon them. When they appeared before the king, they were found superior in wisdom and understanding. This passage challenges believers to consider whether their professed faith governs their choices when obedience becomes difficult. Daniel's example reminds us that convictions should be established before the moment of testing arrives. Central Truth: A faith that governs our lives must be more than a profession; it must direct our decisions when circumstances pressure us to compromise. Practical Application: Determine in your heart to obey God before facing temptation. Stand firm in biblical convictions, exercise wisdom in your responses, and trust God with the outcome.
Holding Communion Together
2026/10/18
This sermon concludes a study on the doctrine of the church by examining the relationship between local congregations and the broader body of believers. It argues that while each local church is autonomous and self-governing, they are not isolated entities but are bound by a general obligation to pray for and support one another. The text explores the biblical precedent for inter-church connection, citing examples of shared resources and mutual care in the New Testament. The discussion emphasizes the concept of 'holding communion together' as a formal association of like-minded churches that provides counsel and encouragement without exercising jurisdictional authority over individual congregations. Ultimately, the sermon encourages believers to recognize their regional and global responsibilities while maintaining the distinct authority of the local church.

24 Daniel
2026/10/18
Daniel is now in the government of the Medes and the Persians who conquered the Babylonians in October of 539 B.C. Daniel who had been in the Babylonian government of Nebuchadnezzar remained in the government in a leadership role when Darius the Mede assumed control in 539 B.C. Daniel who realized that the prophet Jeremiah had been the last prophet in the area of Judea under king Zedekiah warned him of the impending Godly judgment if Zedekiah did not follow His warnings. In his book Jeremiah received the prophecy from God as too how long the Babylonians would control Jerusalem (In Jeremiah 25:11-12 and Jeremiah 29:10). Knowing that the ruin of Jerusalem (desolations) would have a termination date, Daniel begins praying for the future of Jerusalem and the nation Israel.
