God's Means to Turn Your Heart to Jesus
2026/10/18
(AI Generated Summary) The sermon argues that the human mind is naturally hostile to God and oriented toward worldly treasures, resulting in spiritual darkness and a lack of true satisfaction. It emphasizes the necessity of the new birth, where God shines light into the heart to reorient affections toward Him as the ultimate treasure. Using the metaphor of a healthy eye and the parable of the hidden treasure, the message illustrates that only God can fully satisfy the soul, whereas earthly pursuits are like broken cisterns that hold no water. The Christian life is described as a constant reorientation away from worldly desires and back to Christ, who is the sole source of eternal life and joy. This theological framework culminates in the practice of the Lord's Supper, which serves as a regular reminder for believers to trust in Christ and recognize Him as their greatest delight.

Self Identification of Jesus
2026/10/18
The sermon explores the healing of the paralytic in Mark 2 as an enacted parable that reveals the identity and authority of Jesus Christ. It argues that Jesus intentionally instigates controversy to demonstrate that He possesses the divine prerogative to forgive sins, a power reserved exclusively for God. The text connects the physical healing to the spiritual reality of sin, describing sin as both a source of uncleanness that alienates believers from God and a crippling force that breaks their spiritual capacity. Faith is presented as a stubborn, dependent trust that overcomes obstacles to reach Christ, while forgiveness is depicted as a complete, blood-bought pardon that removes guilt and transforms the believer's life into immediate obedience. The central message emphasizes that the Son of Man has the authority to restore the broken and forgive the sinner, calling for a response of wholehearted service and worship.

Luke 8 14-15 Parable of the Soils, pt 4
2026/10/18
In this 4th installment in the explanation Jesus gives concerning the Seed and the Soils, we get to see a close proximation (though it still misses the mark) of what salvation looks like, and a good example of what True Salvation looks like. There are lots of people attending churches today (on a somewhat regular basis) whose lives are filled with so many worldly-oriented things and so many energy consuming focuses that are not growing their faith or giving them opportunities to minister their faith to their neighbors. They are able to talk a faith that sounds good on the surface. But they are not engaged in things that draw their hearts closer to Jesus and therefore are not helping them to mature in their faith. Their lives are unable to bear good fruit, because they are being choked out by the cares of the world and their love of the world (1 John 2:15-17; James 4:4; Matthew 6:24, etc.). John the Baptist said that there is a fruit of repentance that follows the act of faith in God (Mt 3:8). Jesus told His disciples that those He has chosen would bear fruit and that fruit would remain (John 15:16). Paul, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit proclaimed that the fruit of the Spirit is very obvious when compared to the deeds of the flesh (Galatians 5:22-25), and that it would show up in how they live their daily lives (Colossians 1:10) and would be able to be seen as excellent (Philippians 1:9-11). The key difference is not in the because of some different soil. All four are in the same area where the seed is scattered - it all looks pretty much the same. The key is in the hearer's heart response to the movement and call of the Holy Spirit on their lives (Ro 1:16-32).
