Scripture Reading Exodus 31:12-18; Hebrews 3:7-4:13 Confessional Reading Lord's Day 38 1. A day of rest 2. A day of worship 3. A sign of eternal rest and worship

The sermon explores the theological progression from the Old Testament command to keep the Sabbath to its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. It begins by illustrating the futility of religious striving and worldly busyness through the metaphor of a treadmill, contrasting this with the rest God provided to Israel as a reminder of their deliverance from slavery. The message argues that Jesus fulfilled the law on the cross, declaring 'It is finished,' thereby becoming the true Sabbath rest for believers. The central invitation is for all who are weary and heavy-laden to come to Christ, not to earn salvation through works, but to receive it as a gift. The preacher encourages the audience to take on Jesus' yoke, learning from His meekness and allowing Him to carry the burdens of life, thus finding genuine spiritual refreshment.

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 4 Text: Hebrews 4:9-10 Heidelberg Catechism LD 38 Series: Sabbath Theme: Sabbath and Consummation 1. Christ's First-Day Resurrection 2. Christ's Final Restoration and Rest

This sermon examines the pivotal moment in Acts 13 where the apostle Paul shifts his focus from the Jewish community to the Gentiles following their rejection of the gospel. The central message emphasizes that justification comes solely through faith in the risen Jesus Christ, rather than through adherence to the Mosaic Law, a truth foretold in the Old Testament prophecies. The exposition highlights the theological mystery of God's sovereign grace, illustrating how the 'wild olive branch' of the Gentiles is grafted into the covenant while the natural branches are temporarily set aside due to unbelief. The tone is instructional and convicting, urging listeners to recognize the sufficiency of Christ's work and the danger of despising the divine message. Ultimately, the sermon presents this transition as the fulfillment of God's eternal plan to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.
