Episode 873 - It's still good
2026/04/23
In this episode I'm joined by Ryan Hunn to shoot the Arsenal breeze after what has been a difficult week, and one in which we find ourselves off top spot after Man City's win on Wednesday evening. We chat about how the Gunners need to approach the final five games, the psychology of what we need to do, the connection between our attack not firing as well as we'd like and the defence becoming less stable, as well as answering some questions about our ongoing injury issues, Hale End graduates and in particular Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri's loan move and lots more. Arsecast Extra Episode 691 - 20.04.2026
2026/04/20
In this episode we look back at Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Man City at the Etihad. There was some encouragement from the performance, although the result means the two sides will have to go neck and neck towards the finish line in this title race. We chat about the team Mikel Arteta selected, one which showed some real intent, the two quickfire goals in the first half, Arsenal's missing the chances to go ahead before City took the lead, and the late opportunity for Kai Havertz to nick a point. We also discuss the battle between Gabriel and Erling Haaland who might actually have done us a big favour in that head to head moment, as well as how the table shapes up now, listener questions about goal difference, summer signings, attack influence from full-backs, whether Arsenal can go on and win 5 in a row with the Champions League to contend with too, and lots more. Episode 872 - Arsenal give us a semi
2026/04/16
In this episode I'm joined by Tim Stillman to look back on Wednesday's 0-0 draw at home to Sporting, a result which sees us qualify for the semi-finals of the Champions League for the second year in a row. We chat about some of things Arsenal did and didn't do in the wake of Saturday's defeat to Bournemouth, with focus first on a forward line that has some fundamental limitations that hamper our ability to play the kind of attacking football we'd like. As well as that, we discuss the way we controlled the game in the second half, leaning on the areas of the pitch where we do have top class talent, and how we restricted the opposition to just one shot on target all night. There are some interesting comments from Declan Rice about how the players feel about progression in this competition, parallels with some other European campaigns, and spotlight on how we're the only English team left in the Champions League after everyone else, and giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona fell by the wayside to set up a fascinating clash with Atletico Madrid in the next round. Arsecast Extra Episode 690 - 13.04.2026
2026/04/13
In this episode we look back at Saturday disappointing and disheartening defeat to Bournemouth. We chat about the team selection with some key players missing but with some ineffective combinations in key areas. There's analysis of the goals we conceded, the one we scored, and some decent chances we had to at least grab a point late on. Beyond that, we discuss the way the team is playing now, the counter-intuitive nature of asking our goalkeeper to play with more risk than players higher up the pitch, and whether the pressure to win the league this season played a part in the performance (or lack of). In part two we answer listener questions about Martin Zubimendi and how Mikel Arteta might be able to change the dynamic of the team, injury information, what we can expect against Sporting in midweek and how that might be beneficial, the idea that pre-game hype might not be useful, our feelings on how the rest of the season plays out, and lots more. Episode 871 - 1-0 to the Arsenal
2026/04/08
In this episode I'm joined first by Andrew Allen in my Lisbon hotel room to chat about Arsenal's 1-0 win over Sporting on Tuesday evening. We discuss the team line-up, a first half that wasn't exactly replete with chances but which saw the Gunners rediscover some of their identity after a shaky start and a big moment from David Raya. There were second half changes, more great goalkeeping, and as the game looked like it was headed for a draw, a fantastic goal cooked up by Gabriel Martinelli and finished by Kai Havertz won us the game. We also talk about Raya as a potential player of the season, the Martinelli in Europe v Martinelli in the Premier League, how the team needed that big moment after recent defeats, the prospect of another Champions League semi-final, the match-day experience in the stands, and more. Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 162: Gunners bow out of the FA Cup
2026/04/06
In this episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim and Jamie rake over the coals of Sunday's 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Brighton where a rotated and tired looking Gunners side were outmatched by Dario Vidosic's side. Tim and Jamie discuss the level of rotation, what it suggests about squad depth, how Brighton's approach made it difficult for Arsenal, lack of depth in midfield and whether a dropoff in performance is avoidable after a pair of massive Champions League games. In part 2, Tim and Jamie take your questions submitted on Bluesky. EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal ➼ https://nordvpn.com/arseblog Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! Arsecast Extra Episode 689 - 05.04.2026
2026/04/05
In this episode we look back at Saturday evening's 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Southampton, a game which has scratched at some old wounds/worries about this Arsenal team. We chat about team selection, and individual errors that punctuated the performance which proved so costly on the night. We analyse the goals we conceded, how we failed to capitalise on the equaliser we scored in the second half, and how collectively and individually we were so far below par. Then it's about what this defeat means for our season overall, how important it is to put in a performance against Sporting on Tuesday, before we answer listener questions about Max Dowman after his impressive performance, when is the right time to go out of the cups, the futures of certain players, Mikel Arteta's press conference quotes, and lots more. Episode 870 - Gyok 'n' roll
2026/04/02
In this episode I'm joined first by Lewis Ambrose to discuss the Arsenal players who went away during the Interlull, and how that might benefit them and us. We start with Viktor Gyokeres whose goals helped fire Sweden to the World Cup, before the focus turns to Kai Havertz and Ben White who both got well-needed minutes for Germany and England. Then we discuss some of the media spotlight on White, and how dishonest the reaction has been to the Arsenal players who either didn't go away at all or withdrew from international duty, before we look ahead to the FA Cup quarter-final with Southampton on Saturday evening.  After that, I chat to Elliot Smith from ArsenalVision Podcast about the April fundraiser for the Arsenal Foundation, the incredible work it helps fund, and give you details of Arseblog's own charity drive for the month of April. Arsecast Extra Episode 688 - 30.03.2026
2026/03/30
In this episode we take stock of what the Arsenal players have been up to, or not up to, during the Interlull. There are possible injuries, but also some withdrawals that are probably more about common sense. We discuss the players in question, and also the ones who are still involved with their countries as the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Riccardo Calafiori and Christian Norgaard look to secure a place at the World Cup. We also chat about Ben White's England return and the boo-boys who greeted his introduction, as well as answering listener questions about Mikel Arteta's style of play, Myles Lewis-Skelly as a midfield option, a hypothetical choice between the Premier League and the Champions League, and lots more. Arsecast Extra Episode 687 - 23.03.2026
2026/03/23
In this episode we look back on Sunday's disappointing 2-0 defeat to Man City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley. We start with discussion of team selection informed by injury, the early chances for Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka, and the way the dynamic of the game potentially changed after the Piero Hincapie yellow card. Arsenal struggled to deal with City's tactical set-up, which leads to a discussion about Mikel Arteta's decision to start Kepa over David Raya. There's focus on the keeper after his big mistake, but were we also impacted by the drop off between him and Raya with the ball at his feet? That goalkeeper decision comes under real scrutiny as Arteta gave into sentiment, which is not really like him, before we examine both goals we conceded and our difficulties at the other end. We also talk about how it's ok to feel annoyed at losing a final even if we have lots more to play for, and there are listener questions about number 2 keepers in general, Rice and Zubimendi, Bukayo Saka, and lots more besides.
