Aunty Sue Haseldine, Googatha elder and President of the Australian Nuclear Free Alliance reflects on the recent meeting of the alliance in Pichi Rich park, so called South Australia.We hear more speeches from the Close Pine Gap - Sacred Land Back Convergence that saw the 500 strong group of participants back the Hayes Fanily in handing over a letter of their demands to the US military base that has been occupying their sacred site for 60 years.  The letter has been turned into a petition that will be taken to Canberra in October.Sign the petition Calling for the closureof Pine Gap.

Today we continue reporting on the 'Close Pine Gap - Sacred Land Back Convergence', held on Arrernte Country in Alice Springs from 17-20 July. Kuyunba is the Arrernte name for the sacred ancestral land occupied by the joint Australian-US military intelligence facility of Pine Gap near Alice Springs. The Hayes family are the custodians for the site that was taken without consent 60 years ago.  Following a weekend of talks and workshops the gathering culminated in the 600 strong convergence supporting the Hayes family to hand over a letter demanding the closure of Pine Gap, land back and compensation for 60 years of loss of access and damages to their sacred site, culture and community.You can sign the petition supporting the Hayes family demands here.

On Friday 3 July at Balam Balam Place on Kulin Land, 100 people gathered for a candlelight vigil and talanoa as part of the Pacific Peace Pilgrimage 2026.The Pacific Peace Pilgrimage was organised by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, Quakers Australia and the Pacific Conference of Churches to cooincide with two significant anniversaries. July 1 marked 80 years since the United States used its first post-war nuclear weapon detonated above Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands.  July 2 marked 60 years since the first French nuclear weapon was exploded above Moruroa Atoll in Mā'ohi Nui, beginning three decades of atmospheric and underground testing.  The impacts live on in memories and in radiation that continues to harm and pose future threats for countless generations.Today we’ll hear Luisa Tuilau reading her poem Bravo, The Brunswick Rogues Choir and friends, Dimity Hawkins from the Nuclear Truth Project, Nic Maclellan - Independent Journalist who has worked in the Pacific region for many decades, and special guests Samuel Barton - President of the Marshall Islands Student Association and Frances Namoumou from the Pacific Conference of Churches.

As we approach the 80th anniversary of the first of around 300 nuclear explosions imposed on the Pacific by colonial powers, and mark the 60th anniversary of the French nuclear testing in the Pacific, we dip into the archives and bring you a show that first aired in 2006 and was presented by Bilbo and Emily with guest presenter Nancy Atkin for the 40th anniversary of French nuclear testing.The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons has organised a Pacific Peace Pilgrimage that will shine a light on the history and intergenerational impacts of nuclear ‘testing’ in the Pacific region, including here in Australia.  ICAN Australia is working with The Quakers and the Pacific Conference of Churches to welcome nuclear-impacted communities from the Pacific and Australia for a series of events which will highlight pathways towards nuclear justice in the region and call for a future that is decolonised, demilitarised, denuclearised and decarbonised.
