Everybody Bowed - They Didn't
2026/09/20
A test of ultimate allegiance in Daniel 3.
No One Could Do What The King Asked
2026/09/13
This is about Nebuchadnezzar's bizarre dream (Daniel 2) that predicted the rise and fall of major world empires with accuracy.
Excellence In Exile (Daniel 1)
2026/09/10
I've loved Daniel 1:4 for years. This is a chat about what exactly Daniel and the other 3 were conscripted to do...
Angels, Idols, and Squirrels (Oh my)
2026/09/06
Psalm 148 invites the whole creation to praise God, top to bottom. This chat gets on a variety of little rabbit trails about angels, idols, and a dead squirrel.
What sort of book is the Bible?
2026/08/30
Is it an encyclopedia of general knowledge revealed by God --- or is it something else entirely?
Ancient Cosmology
2026/08/27
God revealed himself to pre-scientific peoeple. Advanced theology was communicated by ancient people. This demonstrates divine accommodation.
Songs In Babylon
2026/08/23
Psalm 137 1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept     when we remembered Zion. 2 There on the poplars     we hung our harps, 3 for there our captors asked us for songs,     our tormentors demanded songs of joy;     they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” 4 How can we sing the songs of the Lord     while in a foreign land?
Being Called (Stan)
2026/08/16
Responding to God's invitation.
God Uses Means
2026/08/09
God isn't just operating in the world in "supernatural" events. He's WAY more involved than that. He's also working through the world in the most ordinary and natural things. But recognizing God's handiwork takes faith.

You crushed Leviathan's heads
2026/07/30
Psalm 74, Isaiah 27, Job 41, Palm 104 all have Leviathan in common. This message includes a lot of ancient near eastern religious parallels that Israelites would have known. It ends with some thoughts on what at least some modern spiritual warfare might be like.
Image of God
2026/07/26
Genesis 1:26 raises so many fascinating questions. Let's explore some.
Assurance & Emily Hibbs' Brazil Week
2026/07/19
I spoke briefly about the inner witness of the Spirit and then interviewed Emily Hibbs about her trip to Brazil last week.
Faith's Foundation
2026/07/12
And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. (1 Cor 2:1-5)
Theology 101 part 2 (whiteboard)
2026/07/09
Here we recapped God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, and Scripture, and then moved on to briefly address creation and humanity. It's important to distinguish between what Christians hold in the closed hand (must believe) and what we hold in the open hand (may believe). In the closed hand are that God made all things visible and invisibe, that he is Lord over all things, and that humans are made in God's image with dignity and value, both male and female, made for partnership. In the open hand are questions like, "How long were the days of Gensis 1?", or "How old is the earth?" or "Is complementarianism or egalitarianism the more biblical view?" On these matters, we hold our own conviction while not despising other believers whose beliefs differ from ours.
