It’s OFFICIALLY a Great Day for the Outdoors | OS 1446
2026/09/26
The guys made their way to the studio for this episode reveling about the weather. As Jeff put it – it was one of the best mornings EVER. EV-VER!
And what a great day to have great weather – 9/26 is National Hunting & Fishing Day! It’s a time to recognize generations of sportsmen and women for their contributions to the conservation of our nation’s rich sporting heritage and natural resources (okay, that’s what the official website says…). For the boys, it’s time to raise a glass to everyone who hunts, shoots and fishes! Click HERE to visit the website and learn more.
Lots of good news about the fishing and shrimping, but it wasn’t all good news. First Coast anglers finally got their expanded snapper season…but boy, the regs have made it a hot mess. Capt. Chad Starling called in to sort it out. You need to listen, but you may also want to have a piece of paper, a sharp pencil and a calculator handy. Good grief…
Now when the temperature starts to fall, the guys look at the calendar. And today, the fact this this was their final September show, they couldn’t help but start talking about hunting. Lots of chatter about feeders, baiting and all the stuff that pulls them in.
This show was in the middle of a Harvest Moon, which led to a few stories about how bright that moon can get when you’re in the woods. Well, that brought up jacklighting, which brought up all things jack: jackwagons, jackrabbits, jacka$$es, jack squat, and the ultimate question: what’s the deal with the word “jack”?
Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: The shrimp are running! Go see the helpful folks at Hagan Ace of Green Cove, Mandarin, East Palatka and Orange park for pellets, meal, nets, buckets and more. Visit their website to window shop before you go!
Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip of the week: The Outdoors Show is celebrating 30 years on the air! Join Capt. Kevin Faver, Capt. Kirk Waltz and Jeff Lageman at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville on Saturday, October 3, for a special live remote celebrating three decades of fishing, hunting, friendship and unforgettable stories! Come by, meet the guys and help the entire OS Family celebrate The Outdoors Show’s 30th anniversary!
Here’s your KirbyCo Builders’ Cooking Tip of the Week: Trader Joe’s “Handsome Cut” Potato Fries have become Jeff’s new favorite fries! You want ’em at their best? Put ’em in the air fryer.

2026/09/25
Everyone on the First Coast has noticed the change in the weather, and Capt. Kevin was no different. He and the Unusual Suspects all talked about the nor’easter that’s been cranking all week, and what it meant for the fishing. You’ll want to listen in to see what’s working, what’s not, and what will work in the week ahead.

Talkin’ With One Bad A$$ Bass Man | OS 1445
2026/09/19
Capt. Kirk was out on OSR, so Capt. Kevin and Jeff welcomed in Peter Thliveros, the area’s most successful professional bass angler. And in case you’re wondering, “most successful” is no joke – Peter T’s won almost $2 MILLION over the course of his career. With a track record like that, you can guess there’s a lots of bass talk, of course – stories, tips, tricks…you name it, you’ll get it! But it wasn’t ALL bass…there was plenty of surf and offshore fishing talk, too.
The show took a serious turn when Capt. Matt Chipperfield called in to talk about a crazy video he filmed in Guana Watershed. The situation there is distastrous; the water is poisoned by bacteria, pollutants and now deadly algae blooms. The fish kill covers several species – it’s catastrophic. The worst part: all of it could have been prevented. Capt. Matt shared the details, and how we can all get involved to save Guana.
It was a wild episode, complete with a surprise call-in from Josh Scobee, stories of turkey gangs, attack ostriches, the Tale of the Bathtub Bass, and there was even a pet goat sighting! You’ve GOTTA listen to this one…
Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: Captain Kirk’s favorite safety harness for bow season: the Hunter Safety Systems Ultra Lite. Don’t put yourself at risk – invest in the best! Click HERE to get yours…and get it before you head out to the woods.

Free Fallin’ | Fishing Forecast 9-17-26
2026/09/18
Right now, everybody’s talking about the change in the weather. It’s nor’easter season here on the First Coast! Question is…what does that mean for the fishing? Well, since the Unusual Suspects couldn’t check in due to technical difficulty, it was all up to Capt. Kevin to talk about it during this episode, so it’s one you don’t want to miss…

Fantastic Yesterdays, Great Todays, and Better Tomorrows | OS 1444
2026/09/12
With Capt. Kirk out doing some family-style OSR, Capt. Kevin and Jeff called on Scott “Full-Time Part-Timer” Whatley to hang out with them. It was a great time to just talk about all the fun things associated with the outdoor lifestyle.
The mullet are runnin’ like crazy, and First Coast anglers are taking advantage. They’re not the only ones – sharks are EVERYWHERE on the beach right now. In other news, flood tides are coming in, which is making for some fantastic fishing.
The highlight of the morning came about halfway through the episode when the guys welcomed in Kevin’s dad, who was celebrating his 89th birthday! It was fantastic to hear from the the patriarch of the Faver family and a true historian of the First Coast.
During the show, Scott spent some time talking about the Death To Dementia Floatilla taking place on October 25. The Floatilla’s a fun day on the water raising awareness + funds for families in NE Florida battling Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. Visit deathtodementia.com to find out more and register your boat.
And it should be noted that, once again, things went sideways – where else are you gonna get talk about the Dukes of Hazzard, potato shirts, the Metrosexual Farmer ID Test, and more?
Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: Captain Cory Sparks has been catching black drum all summer! His “secret ” is tipping the jig head with a piece of Fish Bites!

It’s Still Hot, But It’s Cool! | Fishing Forecast 9-10-26
2026/09/10
The mullet are runnin’ and the tarpon are eatin’ – along with all kinds of other species, too! Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects were ready for it, and this episode should get you all fired up, too. Listen in for stories, the tips and the forecast, including Capt. Cory’s surprise trip with a celebrity (and some run-ins Capt. Kevin had with some big names), and Capt. Hollywood Ricky Poupore’s story about his Redwood Run-In!

Laboring on Labor Day Weekend | OS 1443
2026/09/05
With Jeff phoning it in from Georgia, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk hopped into the studio to talk about the good, bad and ugly of the outdoors this past week – well, mostly bad and ugly. Water temps have been crazy, and the air? UGLY HOT.
The good was really good, though – the mullet are officially running! The guys talked about that…right before they went sideways with music talk and reminiscing about bb guns and bows.
All in all, this one is a 100% kick back, relax and enjoy kind of episode. So…enjoy!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: Bow season begins in Georgia next weekend! Make sure you are ready to go, your bow is tuned…and you’ve got your practice time in.
Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip of the week: The mullet have started to run! Now is the time to fish the inlets for tarpon, redfish and big flounder, and don’t forget this is the best month for surf fishing!
Here’s your KirbyCo Builders’ Cooking Tip of the Week: Captain Kirk’s braised short ribs! Click HERE to get the recipe.

Is It Really…Hunting Season? | OS 1442
2026/09/02
With Capt. Kirk doing some OSR at his hunting property, Capt. Kevin, Jeff and Tru Luvin Fishing’s Domenic Paniccia talked about a lot of things – including the fact that right now is the hunting pre-season. If it’s connected to getting ready, they talked about it.
And you can bet they talked about fishing, too. How could they not? This is the best fishing spot in the world, isn’t it?
Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: It’s the perfect time to gear up. No tax on hunting, camping and fishing gear starts September 1st!
Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip of the week: Watch out for tornadoes and water spouts this time of year!

…come to an end. Well, the gangbuster fishing did just that over the past several days, and Capt. Kevin knows why. Do you? If you don’t – or even if you do – you can listen to the guys talk all about it, and all the tips and tricks they used to try and get around it.
You can also listen in to find out what’ll be happening in the next several days…and maybe, just maybe, some more good things will start back up in First Coast waters.

The McCormick family has long, deep roots in the First Coast community, and Reid shared many stories about the area’s history, it’s growth and development over the years…and he threw in plenty of great personal stories, too.
If there’s ever been an episode to kick back, listen and learn, this is the one. As Capt. Kevin says…”Great stuff!”

The Dog Days Are Snarlin’ | Fishing Forecast 8-20-26
2026/08/20
Sure, the heat is pretty brutal these days, but that’s to be expected on the First Coast this time of year. The storms, however, are a little bit nastier than Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects had been hoping for. Even during this episode, the bad weather made it rather challenging for some of the guys to call in!
Get the latest, and find out if the upcoming forecast gives us all something to look forward to.

Great Fishing and…Huge Raccoons | OS 1439
2026/08/09
The guys were back together and in the studio for this episode, and they were rather excited – the change in the weather brought on some hungry fish. What a week! The guys, along with the callers, were talking about the good, the bad and the ugly on the water…and along the side of the road. You’ll have to listen to know what that means, but this story has earned Capt. Chip Wingo a new theme song.
Throw in a little sideways conversations involving opossums and three-legged raccoons, and you’ve got one heck of show on your hands (or in your ears).
