S15E54 Bye Bye Scotland
2026/06/30
Scotland's exit from the World Cup after the group stages for the ninth time out of nine sees the end of an era... in more ways than one.
Krys is joined by John and Daris to discuss all the action and implications, whilst a host of voice notes (or is it voice notes of hosts?) also take time to reflect on everything.
Thank you to everyone for tuning into the SFF Podcast.

S15E53 World Cup 2026: Morocco Review & Brazil Preview
2026/06/23
Two games down, one to go in the group stages for Scotland at World Cup 2026, and our fate is finely poised. The highs of the win against Haiti has been replaced with tempered disappointment after defeat to Morocco, with some anticipation ahead of the all too familiar encounter with Brazil.
Krys is joined by Grant and Josh to reflect on what's gone so far, including Josh's own American adventures, and what may still be as Scotland continue our quest to reach the knockout stages of a major competition for the very first time. We also get the thoughts of Andy, Stephen and John, whilst the latter also caught up with Mark Biram to give his thoughts ahead of our latest South American encounter.
The guys finish up with a look across the tournament as a whole so far and give their thoughts on what's been enjoyable up to the time of recording. Hopefully there's still lots more to come, but certainly we'll be along later in the week to reflect on our final group match.

S15E52 World Cup 2026: Haiti Review & Morocco Preview
2026/06/16
After 28 years of waiting, the Scotland Men's National Team returned to the World Cup stage, and it was a winning return as Steve Clarke's men defeated Haiti by a 1-0 scoreline. We don't do things the easy way!
John and Krys are joined by a Moroccan from Boston, Adam Kamoune, to dissect the Group C action, where the Africans claimed a credible 1-1 draw with Brazil in their opener. Adam also gave his insight into how much he's enjoying a Tartan invasion of his home city, whilst also sympathising with some of the issues Scotland fans have been facing. We then preview the big game on Friday in Boston where Scotland and Morocco meet at the Gillette Stadium, where a point could take Scotland into the knockout stages for the first time. It will be tough however against the Semi Finalists of four years ago, who are 8th in the World rankings.

S15E51 World Cup Bonanza
2026/06/09
202 days on from the night Scotland secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup and the countdown is nearly over. In four days time, or four and a half accounting the kick off time, the Scots take to the field against Haiti to play their first World Cup Finals match in 28 years.
John Bleasdale hosts a preview special and is joined by Krys, Cammy, Alan and former host John, returning for this unique occasion. The lads all give their thoughts on what their plans are for the tournament, how well Scotland will do, who will win the tournament, their favourite pre World Cup songs, and pick a combined France 98/Americas 26 Scotland XI.
John and Krys also caught up with Rory Hamilton after a quiz night he hosted at the Clubhouse last week to get his feelings ahead of the tournament, and some of the SFF community also chipped in with their views.
The podcast ends with a few messages of good luck from a few voices you may recognise.

S15E50 The (Unofficial) TA World Cup Playlist
2026/05/28
A fortnight to go until the World Cup, and with many Scotland fans updating their playlist, host John, along with SFF Community contributors Josh and Ricky, welcome along three acts who've written a World Cup tune of their own - Nick Morgan, PG Ciarletta and Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 members Greg and John. Nick has penned "Scotland's On Fire", PG has released "The Saltire's Back (Ole Ole)", whilst Colonel are bringing out "The Fathers of Brazilian Football" on Friday 29 May.
We learn more about what it takes to put together a football single, dealing with online negativity and why there is no longer a market for an official World Cup song that there was back in the day. The lads then all give their objective views on five other songs that have been released and what their top three songs would be on a Tartan Army Playlist.

S15E49 The Premiership Heartsbreaking Finale
2026/05/20
Another Premiership season comes to a close (unless you're in Paisley or Maryhill). After all the hope and fears comes the joy and tears as the final league table takes on an all too familiar appearance.
Josh is joined by Andy, Daris, Krys and Stephen to reflect on probably the most dramatic top flight season in several generations. Inevitably, most of the chat is around the top four teams - three of which went into the split in contention and the other who played a massive part in deciding how it ended.
On top of that, Steve Clarke's 26 man squad for the World Cup was announced earlier in the day of recording, so with three of the five people hopping the Atlantic, the guys give their thoughts on the men chosen to try and finally get Scotland to the knockout promised land for the first time ever.

S15E48 World Cup Throwback: Germany 2006 & South Africa 2010
2026/05/14
We travel back in time for this latest World Cup special as John, Grant, Krys and Charlie talk about the tournaments of 2006 and 2010. Scotland, of course, weren't there thanks to a combination of Berti Vogts and George Burley, despite a Walter Smith revival in the '06 campaign. Reliving Moldova, Iwelumo's miss and Boozegate brought back awful memories.
Onto the tournaments themselves, we cover what SPL (as it was then) players featured at the tournament, spectacular opening games, the fall of England's "golden generation", the French implosion of 2010, the best kits and goals, getting tore into English referees Graham Poll and Howard Webb, and two finals with acts of thuggery.
Two contrasting tournaments, both full of drama and talking points that helped shape the evolution of VAR. Careful what you wish for!

S15E47 World Cup Special: A Long Time Coming
2026/05/11
Scotland's long wait to appear at the World Cup is almost over, and our countdown continues as John and Grant welcome along Hampden Roar creator and host Andy Bargh, who has launched a new book detailing the campaign called "A Long Time Coming". Andy talks about the quick-fire process of putting the book together, which included interviews with twelve players who featured in the journey, and trying to juggle a three-month turnaround for the project alongside preparing for his wedding. Andy rightly acknowledges his now wife Alex for her understanding in it all so he could get the book out ahead of the World Cup.
After some kind messages from some of Hampden Roar Podcast contributors, we chat about Scotland's journey to America, starting from the post-Euro's hangover to that unbelievable night against Denmark. Andy then names a Scotland line-up made up of players from the current squad and France '98.

S15E46 World Cup Behind the Mic: Liam McLeod
2026/05/01
The World Cup is getting ever closer and on this episode John and Stephen chat with the voice of BBC Scotland's coverage Liam McLeod. Liam will be following in the footsteps of predecessors such as Arthur Montford, Archie McPherson, Jock Brown and Rob MacLean when he commentates on Scotland's World Cup Finals game in America this summer.
Liam gives us his Scotland memories from yesteryear before going into his commentary journey, with some interesting facts about how he landed the no.1 gig at BBC. He gives his thoughts on covering that famous night against Denmark on 18 November 2025, something he admits will be tough to beat, before taking WhatsApp questions from the SFF Community and naming his best Scotland XI.

S15E45 From Platini to Lentini: Maurice Malpas' Scotland Career
2026/04/17
The World Cup is edging ever closer, and we can only imagine what it's like to play in the biggest sporting event on the planet. Well, John and Dave spoke to a man who played in two of them, 55 times capped defender Maurice Malpas.
Making his debut in 1984 against France, Maurice enjoyed eight years in the Men's National Team and is one of the few with the honour of playing in Scotland's last home win against England in 1985 and the last victory at a World Cup against Sweden five years later. He goes through his experiences of playing at Mexico 86 and Italia 90, plus touching on Euro 92 and making the Hall of Fame. We round off with questions from the SFF community and Maurice picks a best XI from both tournaments.

2026/04/15
It's t-minus a few days until the craziest split we've seen in years in the Scottish Premiership. The team are here to collectively assess the % chances of outcomes in the title chase and the race to try not finish 11th.
Expect pettiness, exuberance and appalling arithmetic.

S15E43 One Dollar Beer: A Local's Guide to Boston
2026/04/08
It's just 66 days to go until Scotland return to the World Cup, and the excitement is building ahead of the big event. With Boston hosting two matches, John and Daris are joined by Bostonian, and Manager of Intergovernmental Affairs at Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), Adam Kamoune. After being recommended to SFF by fellow Boston resident and well-known Scottish commentator Derek Rae, Adam gave the lowdown on what the Tartan Army can expect in his home city and everything is covered from tourist hotspots to cuisine, from bars to beers, with some money saving tips thrown in.
Adam also addresses the MBTA's reasoning behind the $80 return for trains from Boston to the Gillette Foxboro Stadium, which has not been well received by already disgruntled fans who've already forked out for match tickets, flights and accommodation. He puts into perspective the difference between the World Cup and regular NFL matches, which don't have the same demand for public transport, and the lack of funding from FIFA as part-explanations behind the pricing, as well as the costs to put on the extra trains and staff to cope with the demands.
Overall, Adam speaks passionately about how much he's looking forward to the World Cup and welcoming the Tartan Army to his city. If he wasn't excited enough, Adam has a personal interest in Group C as a Morocco fan, and he gives an insight as to the expectations of the Africans going into the tournament and his general excitement for the Scotland v Morocco match.

S15E42 World Cup Friendlies Preview Featuring Tam Coyle
2026/03/25
Scotland's preparations for the 2026 World Cup begin now as the Men's National Team prepare for two friendly matches against Japan at Hampden and Ivory Coast at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium over the next week. Joining John are SFF regulars Josh, Daris and, belatedly, Stephen, plus special guest Tam Coyle, a familiar name on the Tartan Army music circuit with his DJ gigs.
Not only do we preview the friendlies but we also get Tam's tales of following Scotland and the music scene, before the panel are given the World Cup shirts and songs rankings challenge and attempt to answer the "who am I" quiz, which reveals an upcoming podcast guest.
We also give a shoutout to Gully Singh who's put together a wonderful video from inside the Hill Dickinson Stadium on his YouTube channel "Gully Talks", so if you're going to Liverpool give this a watch beforehand. Also, we give details of the latest Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal donation to the charity "Tackle Africa", and the presentation ceremony being held pre-match.

S15E41 World Cup Special: Mundiales Book with Tim Vickery and Mark Biram
2026/03/05
The World Cup is edging closer, and in this episode John and Charlie take a look at the continent of one of Scotland's opponents - South America. They spoke to co-authors Tim Vickery and Mark Biram ahead of the launch of their book Mundiales, which details South American fortunes in the tournament and how the foundations of the World's biggest sporting event were laid by the inaugural Copa America of 1916.
Tim and Mark describe their journey in how the project came together, who worked on what chapter and how they overcame potential stumbling blocks, with Tim taking the Brian Clough approach. The chat then moves onto looking back at some South American fortunes from Mexico '86 to Qatar '22, how Tim and Mark think the South American sides will do in USA, Mexico and Canada this summer, how the Brazilians view the Scotland match and questions from listeners.
We will have more World Cup content in the build up to and during the main event, so keep your eyes peeled and ears open for future episodes.
