Season 3 continues to trundle along with a consistent one episode a month sort of schedule and much like episode 1, this is another After Movie DRIVER episode as our returning co-host, Jim Wallace and myself are back driving down to The Archive and recapping the movies we watched at the weekend.  In this episode 3 the focus mainly stays on 90s Hitchcockian Noir, Dead Again - as our hosts struggle to answer the question "why Kenneth Branagh?" (which turns out to be exceptionally timely with the debut of his new film, Mayday last week) AND we discuss why growing up in 80s/early 90s Britain was just so wonderfully grim and pleasantly half arsed - in a way we pine for nostalgically - when the subject turns to low budget, horror comedy, I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle and its relation to middling late 80s television. What happens when Brits go to Hollywood and what happens when they don't.  Enjoy!  Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-after-movie-diner-podcast--758347/support. Well for Episode 2 of Season 3 a beautiful thing happened - we are back in a Diner! No sooner did we say that Season 3 was going to be The After Movie Driver, we're back in the land of ham, egg and chips and Jim's weird omlettes! Huzzah!  On this, very special, Diner based episode, we're talking 2008's Insanitarium an odd action horror set inside a mental health facility run by a mad as balls, Peter Stormare who has been injecting his patients with nanobot infused cannibal juice. Honestly, that's an actual thing in this picture.  The cast also includes Jesse Metcalfe, Kiele Sanchez, Kevin Sussman, Olivia Munn, Carla Gallo & Armin Shimerman We go deep on the mind that made this, Jeff Buhler, with all sorts of hypothesising, and talk indie horror and the issues I sometimes have with it.  Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-after-movie-diner-podcast--758347/support. Here it is, an all new chapter for The After Movie Diner (or is that The After Movie Driver?!) and it's starting on the 15th Anniversary of when we began as a podcast.  We've died many times, we've changed formats and we've been around the block but somehow, by some miracle, we're still here.  Here it is - Season 3! - Jim is back as a regular co-host and the shows are going to have a little of that flavour of when we would just sit down in a diner and talk movies, only this time we're driving?! and there's not really any editing! We always did the podcast mainly for us but now this is really just us - unedited, old friends, grumpy, chatting away, live, talking movies.  For the first episode back, our 15th Anniversary and for the first episode of Season Three we're talking big Hollywood swings and misses - Freejack and Dick Tracy. The Paré Parade marches on! This week on The After Movie Diner, we hop Into The Sun — the movie that dares to ask, "What if Top Gun crashed headfirst into The Hard Way... and Michael Paré and Anthony Michael Hall were at the controls?" Then for the VHS Pick we slip on our Cannon Films shades and get sketchy with No Place to Hide, where Kris Kristofferson protects a young Drew Barrymore while Martin Landau lurks menacingly (and magnificently) in the background. Special guest Gary Hill from the Cinema Beef Podcast joins us for the ride — buckle up, it’s gonna get weird! Matt Poirier from the Direct to Video Connoisseur is back again and we are back in the world of The Wings.... Wings Hauser that is! We dip into the bizarro time when Cannon Films gave Norman Mailer money to make a movie out of his jokey, pulp, novella, ghost story, that he only wrote because his publisher's contract required one more book from him. Yes, that's right, saddle up your Ryan O'Neils and dust off your Isabella Rosselinis and get ready to get seriously weird with Penn Jillette, as head off to the Twin Peaksian world of Tough Guys Don't Dance. Then we are blowing shit up, shooting lots of guns and dressing up in our own, incredibly life-like, rubber skin as we take a futuristic ride to PM Entertainment Town and visit with The Hologram Man - because the Hologram Man can and he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good. Matt Poirier from the Direct to Video Connoisseur joins us to talk about the bizarre Michael Moriarty, Sonny Bono and Julia Louis-Dreyfus starring and John Carl Beuchler directed movie, Troll - listen to hear if Moriarty's wildly insane and embarrassing dancing beats that of Crispin Glover in Friday the 13th Pt. 4. Then we get sweaty and swampy down south and see how many s****y silk shirts you have to go through to get taken semi-seriously as an "L.A. Cop" on the streets of Louisiana, when really you look like a low level pimp or hustler from the prisons of Cuba, as Anthony Edwards is ridiculously miscast alongside the always worth the price of admission, Lance Henriksen in the VHS pick - Delta Heat SUPPORT INDIE CREATIVES Subscribe and/or leave us a rating and review wherever you get your podcasts - Our show is on all platforms, take a look! On a new sub-series and beautiful collaboration of The After Movie Diner and Cinema Beef Podcasts, Gary Hill and Jon Cross will dive into the career of one Mr. Michael Paré and every episode, still explore a second film that we came across on VHS. We recorded part of Cinema Beef's Halloween episode with the Paré film Bad Moon, and you can find that - and every other episode - here. On this episode we talk about DragonFight from 1990, in which Paré stars with Robert Z'Dar, James Hong, Charles Napier and Buck Flower and is some sort of post apocalyptic, corporation driven, fight to the death, Z'Dar fuelled madness and our VHS pick, Seizure which is equally loopy but a lot more 70s and happens to be the first movie from a certain Oliver Stone All this and more on a jam packed brand new episode of The After Movie Diner!! On this ALL NEW episode of the After Movie Diner we start down a new series where each week we will cover: 1. a movie I really should've seen but haven't, starring or made by somebody I am a big fan of and 2. a weird find from my VHS collection So to that end we are talking about The Kiss - a criminally under seen, gonzo possession horror from 1988 starring Joanna Pacula and Meredith Salenger and Soldier, the oft maligned, sci-fi flopperooni from Paul W. S. Anderson, starring Kurt Russell SUPPORT INDIE CREATIVES Subscribe and/or leave us a rating and review wherever you get your podcasts - Our show is on all platforms, take a look! This is incredible. Sleazy Spader comes to an end, potentially forever. So, who did we rope into appearing on the last ever Sleazy Spader episode? Why Andy Lunn of course! Basically the Wizard behind the curtain (or perhaps tiny mouse blinds - listen to the show) of all things sleazy spades, who has kept our mail bag filled low these many years. It's a lot of fun and like Spader says all the time, it's best to go out on a BANG! Matt Poirer from Direct to Video Connoisseur, is back and we are delving into a weird, low budget, confusingly edited and bizarrely written entry into Spader's career - that might just end up being the only thing that explains everything and makes any sense. We uncover the Spader Matrix Conundrum, Rediscover the powerful jazz tunes of Bingeing Scrubbs and we discuss the french detective series, Detective Ennui... It's finally here and yes, it is most definitely Summer now - I don't care... I'm not changing it now. Anyway this episode is one of the greatest Sleazy Spader episodes ever! All sorts of things are discussed, questions answered, and yet we'll never have the full picture - we'll never truly know the one they call, Jimmy Spades. This episode is funny, weird, wonderful, long, absorbent, thick, soft and easy on your behind. We talk about the SidNEIGH LuuMAY joint, Critical Care. It's a lot of fun. Nobody reads these. I'm wasted here. SUPPORT INDIE CREATIVES Subscribe and/or leave us a rating and review wherever you get your podcasts - Our show is on all platforms, take a look!
