Today we begin this mini-series within the Exodus Series with a question that reaches beneath our words, beneath our songs, and beneath our Sunday routines: what do we worship while we wait?  Exodus 32 brings us to one of the most painful moments in Israel’s story, but it also holds up a mirror to our own hearts. When God seems silent, when answers are delayed, and when the mountain feels quiet, the heart begins to reach for something to hold. This sermon asks us to examine what we run to in those waiting seasons and whether Christ truly occupies first place.
Exodus Week 18 You must not steal, Lie or Covet
2026/06/14
When we realize Jesus is the secret of true, everlasting contentment, everything changes. We become generous not because it is the right thing to do, but because God went first. He loved us first and gave His first and best, His Son.  We respond by bringing our first and best to Him. We speak the truth not because honesty is always the best policy (sometimes lying seems to gain more – that’s why we lie), but because Truth is a Person.  John 14:6: I am the way, the truth, and the life… When The Truth lives in us, truth comes out of our mouths. We stop comparing and coveting because we trust God’s plan.  Comparison is a trap that the enemy sets for our hearts, it makes us discontent with God’s plan and provision making us think that someone else has it better than we do. The cross proves God is for us.  Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. He has a purpose and a plan to give us a future and a hope in Christ. Contentment is wanting what God wants for us.
