Love Displaces the World (Known) | 1 John 2:15–17
2026/09/27
Loving the world crowds out love for the Father — only what's done as God's will remains forever.
No Darkness at All (Known) | 1 John 1:5–2:6
2026/09/20
God is light with no darkness in him, so we deal with sin through honest confession, not denial — and Jesus is our advocate when we fail, calling us to walk as he walked.
What We Have Seen (Known) | 1 John 1:1–4; 5:13
2026/09/13
John testifies to what he saw and touched in Jesus so we can share real fellowship with God — and he tells us plainly why he's writing: so we can know we have eternal life.
Sabbath Vision
2026/09/06
still need the Sabbath in our world today
Boast in the Lord (The Deep End) | 1 Cor 1:26–31
2026/08/23
The Shallow End: The world's counterfeit for identity is reputation — assembling a self from achievements, status, and approval, which is always one failure away from collapse.
The Deep End: An identity built on the Lord alone is the only one that cannot be taken, cannot age, and cannot be found out — which means you have nothing left to prove.
Labor in the Lord (The Deep End) | 1 Cor 15:50–58 and/or 2 Cor 4:7–18
2026/08/16
The Shallow End: The world's counterfeit for meaningful work is effectiveness — work only counts when it's moving the needle in measurable, demonstrable ways, which makes most faithful human labor invisible and therefore worthless.
The Deep End: Because Christ is raised, every act of faithfulness has permanent eschatological weight regardless of measurable effectiveness — the resurrection is the guarantee that nothing done in the Lord disappears.
Stand Firm in the Lord (The Deep End) | Phil 3:17–4:1 and/or Dan 3:1–30
2026/08/09
The Shallow End: The world's counterfeit for standing firm is "be true to yourself" — which sounds like integrity but is really just drifting with better branding.
The Deep End: The ground you are standing on is the Lord himself, which is why Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego can say "even if he does not" — their faithfulness is non-outcome-dependent because it's not held together by their own convictions but by his.
Be Strong in the Lord (The Deep End) | Josh 1:1–9 and/or Eph 6:10–18
2026/08/03
The Shallow End: The world's counterfeit for strength is sight — basing what's possible entirely on what you see in the mirror and what you see in front of you, which will produce either false confidence or paralysis depending on the day.
The Deep End: God commands Joshua to be strong three times in nine verses and grounds every command in the same thing — "the LORD your God is with you wherever you go" — which means strength in the Lord is entirely sourced in presence, not capacity.
Rejoice in the Lord (The Deep End) | Hab 3:17–19 and/or Acts 16:22–34
2026/07/19
The Shallow End: The world's counterfeit for joy is happiness — a feeling produced by favorable circumstances, which means it's always one piece of bad news away from disappearing.
The Deep End: Habakkuk's "yet I will rejoice" with everything stripped away and nothing resolved is the starkest declaration in the canon that this joy is not circumstance-dependent because it is not circumstance-sourced.
Delight in the Lord (The Deep End) | Ps 37:3–7 and/or 2 Sam 6:12–23
2026/07/12
The Shallow End: The world's counterfeit for delight is pleasure — a real hunger being fed things that cannot satisfy it.
The Deep End: In the Lord, desire itself gets remade at the source — Augustine's "our heart is restless until it rests in thee" and John of the Cross on desire being purified to its true object are both pointing at the same Hebrew word in Psalm 37:4: you stop craving what hollows you out and start wanting what actually fills you.
Freedom in Christ (The Deep End) | Gal 5:1–6, 13–14
2026/06/28
The Shallow End: The world's counterfeit for freedom is autonomy — freedom from obligation, constraint, and belonging to anyone, which sounds like liberation but is really just the self turned inward on itself.
The Deep End: Paul's freedom in Galatians 5 is not freedom from others but freedom for them — liberated from the self-securing, performance-for-belonging system precisely so you can love the way Christ loves, which is the only thing the flesh was never capable of.
Trust in the Lord (The Deep End) | Prov 3:5-8, 11-12
2026/06/21
The Shallow End: The world's counterfeit for trust is self-reliance — securing your own life and managing your own outcomes, with God as a backup for whatever falls outside your control. The Deep End: "Do not lean on your own understanding" is not a gentle suggestion but a demolition of the deepest human instinct — trust in the Lord is total, costly, and open-handed reliance on a God who provides in ways you cannot arrange in advance.
"Coming Home (The Wrestler) | Genesis 35:1–14 [context: Genesis 34; 35:15–29; 36] "
2026/06/14
Spiritual maturity is revealed not by intensity with God, but by open-handed, steady worship after the breakthrough.
The Fear You Must Face (The Wrestler) | Genesis 33
2026/06/07
Reconciliation becomes possible only after transformation reshapes our posture.
Wrestling Toward a New Name (The Wrestler) | Genesis 32:1–32
2026/05/31
True transformation begins when striving collapses into surrender.
