This week we break down Sony’s latest State of Play, including Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Until Dawn 2, Ghost of Yotei, Marvel’s Wolverine, Metro 2039, Maneater 2, and more. GTA VI is everywhere right now. The latest reveal happened on Netflix, and at this point it feels like the floodgates are completely open. New details and information seem to be coming out every single day, giving us even more to speculate about and talk about as we get closer to the game. Sony has also announced a double State of Play for September 3. The first presentation will cover a broad range of PS5 games before immediately rolling into a second presentation focused specifically on games from Japan and Asia. We already know we’re getting an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but there are plenty of rumors surrounding what else could show up. Could we finally see more of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet? Could Marvel’s Wolverine make an appearance? We’ll have to wait and see. And then there’s the $900 PS5 Pro — which is now sold out across the United States. PlayStation Direct reportedly ran out after other major retailers had already sold through their stock. The timing is pretty interesting considering the GTA VI hype is reaching another level. So the question is: are people actually suddenly buying PS5 Pros because they want the best possible GTA VI experience, or is this simply GTA VI causing another massive hardware buying frenzy? Either way, it’s a pretty interesting development for a console that has had a somewhat complicated reception. Wolverine is getting the limited-edition console and controller treatment, with preorders opening August 19. We’ve got the details on the upcoming hardware and what fans can expect. Meanwhile, things aren’t looking great for Supermassive Games. The studio behind The Dark Pictures Anthology is facing up to 75 layoffs in another attempt to keep the company afloat, marking its third round of staff cuts since 2024. Steam Deck owners also have a new way to get their PlayStation fix. A new app called Asobi is bringing PS Plus Premium cloud streaming to the handheld, essentially turning it into a portable PS Portal of sorts. It’s still in testing and doesn’t support your full PS5 library yet, but it could be a pretty sweet option for Steam Deck owners. And GTA 6 is getting another major look on August 27. An extended preview will premiere on Netflix at 3 PM ET, with the YouTube premiere following six hours later. Netflix subscribers get first dibs on what could be our biggest look at Rockstar’s highly anticipated game yet. Plus, we run down the games hitting PlayStation this week, including Grounded 2, No More Room in Hell 2, Madden NFL 27, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, CloverPit, Akatori, and a whole lot more. This week on PS THIS IS AWESOME, Fred talks about finally beating Bramble: The Mountain King and hopping back into the action with Battlefield 6, Jake talks about his last jam of 007 First Light before the guys dive into one of the biggest PlayStation stories in years. Sony has officially confirmed that beginning in January 2028, all new first-party PlayStation games will release digitally only, signaling the end of physical game discs. While the move has felt inevitable for years, the announcement sparked passionate debate about game ownership, preservation, collecting, and what this means for the future of the PlayStation brand. That naturally leads into a conversation about the PlayStation 6, with recent reports suggesting the console has slipped to a 2029 launch window. If those reports are accurate, could Sony's next console be fully digital—and could it also become the most expensive PlayStation ever? The guys also break down the July PlayStation Plus Essential lineup featuring Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023), For the King II, and CrossCode, discuss Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Remaster finally making its way to PS5 after a year on Xbox, and wrap things up with thoughts on Unhinged on Netflix. As always, expect plenty of PlayStation discussion, industry speculation, and a few laughs along the way.
