Must you go to the uncircumcised Philistines to get a wife?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me. She’s the right one for me.” Out of the eater: God works through what he doesn’t approveJudges 14:5-13 5 Samson went down to Timnah together with his father and mother. 23/08/2026 - Matt Robinson Genesis 37-501. An Unlikely HeroGenesis 37:3 Joseph was favoured by his father and given dreams from God about his future. But Joseph wasn’t the obvious choice: He wasn’t the firstborn.He came from a complicated family.His brothers looked down on him.God doesn’t look for what people look for. He looks at the heart. God is a good Father. He gives good gifts, calls the unexpected and uses people others might overlook. 2. Raised Among Injustice – Yet Defiant in CharacterJoseph’s brothers betrayed him, threw him into a pit and sold him into slavery. Genesis 37:28 Joseph had received a promise from God, yet his life immediately became filled with suffering. God’s promise doesn’t mean a pain-free life.Pain, suffering and betrayal aren’t proof that God has abandoned us. They remind us of our need for a faithful God. Joseph eventually became successful in Potiphar’s house. Genesis 39:2–6 But notice what Joseph did: He worked. His promotion didn’t mean less responsibility but more responsibility. Joseph chose to honour God through his work, even when his circumstances were unjust. When everyone else is doing wrong, choose to do what is right.Doing the right thing may cost you in the short term, but God sees your faithfulness. Don’t expect righteousness to always be easy, but trust that God sees your faithfulness. 3. The Innocent PunishedJoseph was tempted by Potiphar’s wife. When temptation came, Joseph ran. Genesis 39:11–15 Sometimes the most faithful response to temptation is simply to run from it. Joseph did the right thing, but was falsely accused and thrown into prison. Yet Joseph didn’t give up. Even in prison, he worked, served others and remained faithful. Being in a difficult place doesn’t mean God has stopped working.Joseph interpreted dreams for other prisoners, and eventually his gift brought him before Pharaoh. What looked like another setback became the pathway to his calling. 4. Yet God’s Spirit Is Upon HimGenesis 41:38 “Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?” Joseph had remained faithful from the pit to the prison. He understood that God was still: SpeakingTeachingSavingUsing himWhat if we lived with the same perspective?Even when our circumstances don’t make sense, what if we believed: God is still speaking. God is still teaching. God is still saving. God is still using me. God’s Spirit brings: RestorationPeaceUnityFreedomLifeGod’s Spirit is available to you. 5. Through Which Salvation ComesJoseph was eventually raised up to a position where he could save countless people from famine. But God wasn’t only saving Joseph. God was using Joseph to bring salvation to others. He also eventually saw restoration between himself and his family. God doesn’t just want to bless us – He wants to use us.Joseph’s story points towards a greater story: An unlikely hero ↓ Raised among injustice ↓ Innocently punished ↓ The Spirit of God upon Him ↓ Through whom salvation comes The Story of JesusThe Old Testament is filled with stories of unlikely people who God uses. But ultimately, no ordinary person could fulfil the story. Until Jesus. Born in Bethlehem. Raised among sinners. Betrayed by those He called brothers. Sold for silver. Innocently punished for the guilty. Yet He overcame death and brought life. Jesus did what no person could do. He made a way. He bridged the gap. He opened the gates. So that all humanity could follow Him. The story of Joseph echoes the greater story of Jesus. What Does This Mean For Us Today?Maybe today you feel like: The unlikely hero You feel inadequate or overlooked. Raised among injustice You’re surrounded by things that don’t seem right. In a pit of despair Your circumstances seem to have taken away your hope. But remember: God knows.God sees.God is still at work.He is looking for people who will allow His Spirit to work through them to bring salvation and restoration to the world around them. Trust in the Lord. He knows what He is doing and He is still doing it today.

16/08/2026 - Matthew Destry Right at the centre of this reluctant prophet’s story, hidden in the darkness of a fish’s belly, we find one of the most beautiful prayers in all of Scripture. Passage: Jonah 2:1-9 “I called out to the Lord, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice. For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your breakers and your waves passed over me. Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple.’ The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head. To the roots of the mountains I went down, to the land whose bars closed upon me forever. Yet you brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God. When my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love. But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord!”   Two observations a/ The fish is never called judgment. It is called God’s provision. b/ Jonah never actually asks to get out. Fill your heart before you need itGratitude changes the atmosphere before circumstances changeSalvation belongs to the LordOne final observation:  Throughout the entire prayer… the fish never changes. Jonah does.

09/08/2026 - Vincent Gulay The story of Jonah is not just about a man and a fish. It is a story about the grace of God. God extends grace to Jonah, to the sailors, to Nineveh, and even to a reluctant prophet who keeps getting it wrong. We are all recipients of God’s grace, but we are also called to become carriers of it. The question is: Will we allow God’s grace to flow to us, through us, and to others? ACT 1: BEFORE FISH 1. A STORM OF MERCY Scripture: Jonah 1:4 Sometimes the storm is not punishment. Sometimes it is mercy. Jonah was moving away from God, and the storm became the very thing that redirected him. If a challenge in our life is drawing us back toward God, it may actually be an expression of His grace. God’s grace TO me. Question: Could the storm I am facing be God’s mercy redirecting me? 2. PREACH WITH YOUR LIFE Scripture: Jonah 1:9–13 Jonah said he worshipped the Lord while actively running away from Him. When our lives contradict what we say we believe, it can create confusion for the people around us. Our obedience matters. Our disobedience rarely affects only us. Don’t let the life you live block the grace you preach. God’s grace THROUGH me. Question: Where am I rationalising disobedience, and how is it affecting those around me? ACT 2: AFTER FISH 3. LET GRACE FLOW Scripture: Jonah 3; Jonah 4:1–3 Jonah did not want Nineveh to receive the grace of God. But our job is not to decide who is ready for grace or who deserves grace. Our job is to faithfully carry it. We do not know what God has already been doing in someone’s heart before He asks us to act. Jonah wanted grace for Israel. Jonah wanted grace for himself. He just did not want grace for his enemies. Do we love grace, or only grace extended to us? God’s grace FOR others. Question: Who am I withholding grace, forgiveness or mercy from? 4. BE HUMBLE. Scripture: Jonah 3:6 The king of Nineveh stepped down from his throne, removed his robes and humbled himself before God. Grace requires humility. There are areas of our lives where we need to stop relying only on our own strength and surrender again to the Lord. Our humility can also create space for the people we lead and influence to experience God’s grace. Sometimes grace enters the room when we are willing to get off the throne. My SURRENDER to grace. Question: Where do I need to humble myself and surrender control to God? RESPONSE: A SECOND TIME Scripture: Jonah 3:1 “The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time.” Jonah ran. Jonah resisted. Jonah got it wrong. And still, God came again. That is grace. Jonah ultimately points us toward Jesus, who entered death and rose again so that anyone who calls on His name can receive forgiveness, restoration and new life. The invitation of Jesus is still being extended today. RESPONSE QUESTIONS ● Are you in a storm? Could God be redirecting you? ● Are you rationalising something you know is wrong? ● Who are you withholding grace from? ● Where do you need to humble yourself before God? The good news is not that you have to fix yourself before you come back. The word of the Lord can come to you a second time. And His invitation requires a response.

02/08/2026 - Matthew Destry Context: The book of Daniel spans almost seventy years. Jerusalem has fallen. The temple has been destroyed. God’s people have been dragged into exile. First came Assyria, swallowing the northern kingdom. Then Babylon conquered Judah. Nebuchadnezzar ruled. Then Belshazzar. Then, almost overnight, another empire arrived. Persia. Daniel 6:1-9 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom 120 satraps, to be throughout the whole kingdom; 2 and over them three high officials, of whom Daniel was one, to whom these satraps should give account, so that the king might suffer no loss. 3 Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. 4 Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him. 5 Then these men said, “We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God.” 6 Then these high officials and satraps came by agreement[a] to the king and said to him, “O King Darius, live forever! 7 All the high officials of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the counselors and the governors are agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an injunction, that whoever makes petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. 8 Now, O king, establish the injunction and sign the document, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.” 9 Therefore King Darius signed the document and injunction. Your excellence can be a witnessVerse 3… ”Daniel so distinguished himself…” Daniel 9:2 – “in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, perceived in the books the number of years that, according to the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet, must pass before the end of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years.” Jeremiah 29:5-7…“ Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. 6 Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. 7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Daniel 6:10-12 10 When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously. 11 Then these men came by agreement and found Daniel making petition and plea before his God. 12 Then they came near and said before the king, concerning the injunction, “O king! Did you not sign an injunction, that anyone who makes petition to any god or man within thirty days except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?”  Your rhythms can be a witnessFirst – The upper room Second -Why not close the windows? Third – Why Jerusalem? Daniel 6:16-18 16 Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared[b] to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!” 17 And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel. 18 Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; no diversions were brought to him, and sleep fled from him. Then, at break of day, the king arose and went in haste to the den of lions. 20 As he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish. The king declared to Daniel, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?” 21 Then Daniel said to the king, “O king, live forever! 22 My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.” Your peace can be a witnessYour words can be a witness

26/07/2026 - Jody Destry Big Idea: The book of Ruth points us to Jesus—our true and eternal Kinsman-Redeemer. Through this beautiful Old Testament story we discover that God is always at work rescuing, redeeming and restoring His people. Key Scriptures Ruth 1:16–18 Ruth 1:20–21 Ruth 2:3 Ruth 3:9 Ruth 4:13–17 The Journey Through Ruth Chapter 1 – The Tragedy Key Point: Our rescue begins when we come to the end of ourselves. Naomi returns empty, bitter and convinced her story is over. Yet even in the darkest chapter, God is preparing the way for redemption. Chapter 2 – A Glimmer of Hope Key Point: Even when we can’t see His hand, God is already working for our good. Ruth “just happens” to glean in Boaz’s field—but what looks like coincidence is God’s providence. Chapter 3 – The Match-maker Key Point: Hope becomes certain when we place ourselves under the covering of our Redeemer. At the threshing floor—the place where the wheat is separated from the chaff and what is valuable is revealed—Ruth entrusts herself to Boaz, her kinsman-redeemer. It points us to Jesus, our ultimate Redeemer, under whose covering we find refuge. Chapter 4 – The Triumph Key Point: Our Redeemer doesn’t just rescue us—He gives us a future beyond what we could imagine The story moves from tragedy to triumph, emptiness to fullness, bitterness to joy. Ruth becomes part of the family line of King David—and ultimately, Jesus Christ. Jesus: Our True Redeemer Boaz points us to Jesus, our true and eternal Kinsman-Redeemer.

19/07/2026 - Matthew Destry Many of us have inherited this picture of the Bible… where God is one way in the Old Testament, and another way in the New. Bad Cop, Good Cop: Old Testament – Angry. Violent. Judging. Rules. New Testament – Jesus. Grace. Love. Forgiveness. Luke 24:25-27 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. Genesis 6:11-22 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress[c] wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high.[d] 16 Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit[e] high all around.[f] Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. 17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. God sees 2. God grieves Genesis 7:13-17 On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in. For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 3. God rescues – The ark is mercy Genesis 9:9-20 12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.” 18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) 19 These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth. Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded[a] to plant a vineyard. 21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent. 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside. 4. A promise of rest – The bow and the vineyard 5. The ache remains and heroes fall Noah was never the hero. The ark is pointing to Christ.

You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. 11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me. 14 Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. 18 I have received full payment, and more. It’s as Jesus said, the harvest is plentiful… it’s up to us to share with them the good news, the message of the one and only way, truth and life that is Jesus. Primary Text: Acts 26:9-23 Here we see Paul stand before a court room and share HIs testimony of how and why he came to believe and follow Christ. He demonstrates how we can use our story as a witness to who God is. Here are three thoughts that to encourage us around sharing about God: Don’t need a degree in theologyKey Text: ‭‭John‬ ‭9‬:‭25‬ We don’t need to hold all the answers to have qualifications, your story is unique to you, no one can dispute or argue against what you have lived. People aren’t looking for answers, they are looking for the answer, that there is a God who loves them. Consider how you first came to follow Christ. Your witness is your discipleshipKey Text: Mark 5:18-20 For this man, his next step in discipleship wasn’t to sit at Jesus’ feet but to sing of what Jesus had done for him. Be careful not to be so focused on your own faith that you’re not considering what you can do to share it with others. The World needs the TruthKey Text: ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭14 The Gospel brings hope, freedom, unity, peace, joy, justice, healing and redemption. How will people come to know Christ unless they are told about Him? It’s often said the first step in someone’s coming to know Christ is by knowing and trusting a christian. This is how the gospel spread and the early church grew, from people sharing their stories about what God was doing in your life. Reflective questions: What’s your story? What is God doing in your life? Consider, what has God done in your life recently? What this could look like: I heard this on the weekend… (Share what you heard or chatted about at church/small group) I’ve been thinking about… (insert what God’s been speaking to you about) I’ve been praying for… When asked: “How was your weekend” you can talk about how you spent it serving coffees and chips. When people notice something different about you and ask “why are you always so… why do you…?” point towards your faith. It doesn’t take a preacher or evangelist to introduce people to Jesus, it takes anybody sharing about their story as a part of God’s story.

14/06/2026 - Matthew Destry Text 1 – Daniel 10:2-9 (ESV) In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks. 3 I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks. 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river (that is, the Tigris) 5 I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. 6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. 7 And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. 8 So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and no strength was left in me. My radiant appearance was fearfully changed,[b] and I retained no strength. 9 Then I heard the sound of his words, and as I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in deep sleep with my face to the ground. Context: This is the third year of Cyrus—two years after Cyrus’ decree for the restoration of the Jews had gone forth, in accordance with Daniel’s prayer. This is very close to the time when the first wave of Jews are returning from captivity and beginning the rebuilding of the temple (recorded in the first chapter of Ezra). Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. Context / exegesis “A Psalm of David. When he was in the wilderness of Judah.” A shepherd turned fugitive. Verse 11: “But the king shall rejoice in God…” “The hearts of the men of Israel have gone after Absalom.” (2 Samuel 15:13) So, which one is it? Because whichever wilderness you choose, the lesson remains the same. God keeps bringing David back to the same classroom. Into the wild The wilderness reveals our thirst“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you…” (Psalm 63:1) True hunger refuses to settle for substitutes“Earnestly I seek you…” (Psalm 63:1) Hunger carries us through success and failureHunger remembers God’s faithfulness“So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.” (v.2) “When I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night…” (v.6) Hunger engages the whole person“My lips will praise you…” (v.3) “I will lift up my hands…” (v.4) “My mouth will praise you…” (v.5) “I remember you upon my bed…” (v.6) “My soul clings to you…” (v.8) God Himself is the reward“Because your steadfast love is better than life…” (Psalm 63:3) The satisfied become the sentAm I still hungry?

31/05/2026 - Matthew Destry The Roman historian Pliny the Younger once wrote to Emperor Trajan trying to explain these Christians. He said “they were accustomed to meet on a fixed day before dawn and sing responsively a hymn to Christ as to a god, and to bind themselves by oath… the contagion of this superstition has spread not only to the cities but also to the villages and farms.” They spread everywhere. Because the early church did not primarily see itself as a place people attended. It saw itself as a people who were sent. We gather to be formed. But we exist to be sent. Acts 13:1–3 “Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.” John 20:21 “Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.’” Point 1: The church is called to form people, not just gather crowds Point 2: Sending flows from spiritual depth Point 3: Multiplication requires generosity and courage 1/ What does this mean for us personally? “Sending” does not begin when you move overseas or plant a church. It begins Monday morning. 2/ So what does this mean for us as a church? It means every person in this room has a role in the sending story. Some will go. Some will give. Some will lead. Some will pray.
