History of Practical Shooting Sports: IPSC, USPSA, and IDPA
Correction. Do a history of the shooting sports.IPSC – 1976
USPSA – 1984
IDPA – 1996
Dave K. Sent
Supplementary Research: The practical shooting sports trace their modern organized roots to the founding of the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) in 1976, which established standardized rules for dynamic handgun competitions emphasizing speed, power, and accuracy. The United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) was formed in 1984 as the American regional affiliate of IPSC. The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) launched in 1996 to focus on concealed-carry and defensive-style shooting scenarios. These organizations have shaped equipment standards, competition formats, and training methodologies used in contemporary action pistol events.

Availability: Best Use Case: Military duty carry for Air Force Global Strike Command personnel (nuclear security and global strike operations)

SIG P320 Safety Controversy Business Impact
The article discusses the long-running SIG P320 drop-safety issues, voluntary upgrade program, and subsequent lawsuits. It argues that despite ongoing legal and reputational challenges, the P320’s strong commercial performance and market entrenchment mean safety concerns no longer significantly affect its sales or adoption.
Special: Quick Pro/Con: Pro – Strong sales and market position despite issues; Con – Lingering lawsuits and past safety recalls
Beretta at 500: The Guns Behind the History
Beretta at 500
WLS host cue notes
Shawn Herrin | October 5 2026Producer note: Early entries are documented examples, not sales rankings. A Beretta barrel signature does not identify every component maker. Most antique dates are approximate; world events are broad era markers, not claimed uses or exact manufacturing dates. Catalogue numbers are reference identifiers. The 1500s evidence supports one barrel order, not two distinct weapons; Lepanto is not a second gun.
Anniversary anchor: October 3, 1526 to October 3, 2026. The 1526 record is the earliest documented transaction, not proof the workshop opened that day. [1]
1500s
Arquebus barrel order
October 3 1526 [1, 2, 3]
What it is
– 185 barrels supplied by Bartolomeo Beretta to the Venetian Arsenal.
What makes it distinctive
– Payment: 296 ducats; earliest documented Beretta transaction.
– These were components for early long guns, not 185 documented complete Beretta arms.
Function
– The barrel contains firing pressure and guides the projectile. The order does not identify the ignition system.
World history
– 1526: Henry VIII is king of England.
– 1564: Shakespeare is born, almost 40 years after the order.
1600s

Gioseffo Beretta barrel hunting gun
1600s | Catalogue 168/V13 [4, 5, 7, 8]
What it is

What it is

What makes it distinctive
– GIOVAN BERETTA barrel signature.

World history
– 1776: America adopts the Declaration of Independence.

Giovan Beretta barrel silver mounted hunting gun
1700s | Catalogue 171/V13 [4, 5, 11, 12]

Live Fire Media Show 67 – Internet Chaos
2026/10/06
Episode 67 is pure internet chaos: strikes, cheap glass, Gunsite carbine work, 300 Blackout arguments, a Mini-14 bolt release, and SHOT Show wish-list fights. No clean through-line, just the usual Live Fire Media pile-up.
YouTube handed out a second community-guidelines strike. The first drops in December, the second in January—one more and the channel is gone. Facebook and Threads both killed Mini-14 posts, including one that showed the Axis Engineering Labs Lighting Bolt Release (LBR). Meanwhile the LBR is actually installed and running on the Mini-14.
Cheap optics get the usual split. Hunter’s out. The counter is simple: if it holds zero and you can see through it, why not? Still waiting on someone to section a budget scope and a real one so the difference is visible instead of theoretical.
Hunter just came off five days of 5.56 defensive carbine at Gunsite—carbine drills, four shoot-house runs (one at night), and four outdoor simulators. That sets up the rest of the gear talk.
300 Blackout gets the usual treatment. North Korea’s Kim Jong Un doesn’t pop. Hunter could care less about the round. Quiet is nice, but not if you’re paying for it; free ammo changes the math. Hunter notes most guns need tuning for it, while the Hi-Point just runs. Also on the table: the Nemo Arms 300 Win Mag pistol in an 8-inch setup and a .30-30 AR build.SHOT
Show wants are the closer. Rusty and Corey want wildcat cartridges and optics. Dropping a 220 Swift in an AR platform was enough to light a few egos on fire.
Wrapped around all of it: gearing up for 31 days of horror, and the Crypt Keeper is back for AMC’s Horror Fest. Still don’t miss cable.

Dear WLS
Question from Hoosier Gun Nut
A bit of backstory first, one of my best friends inherited his father’s Sig P250 (DAO) chambered in .40 after he passed away from cancer. My friend is not at all into firearms like I am, so he ended up giving it to me for some work I did for him (which I expected no payment for). It came with a .357 Sig barrel and three magazines which I knew would make Patton happy. I like the idea of getting to shoot .357 Sig, but I have far too much invested in 9mm to not explore converting it to 9. I know very little about it except that the Double Action Only trigger pull is longer than an Ayn Rand novel, that it has a serialized FCG, and is the predecessor to the P320. Here’s the questions boys: Will a C and G P320 holster work with this? Is all I have to change is barrel and mags and it’ll run 9mm? And can I upgrade this trigger or is the Double Action destined to frustrate me the entire time I own this? This pistol means something to me, and regardless of how well it performs I will treasure it, and use it as a range toy if I don’t find a way to make it part of the carry rotation. Thank you guys! #AllTheNotes #SeeYouAtGunConAgain #JeremyIsNotACunt
Question from Karl F
Is 300 blackout a rifle round that identifies as a pistol round, or a pistol round that identifies as a rifle round?
#blamecanada
Question from Will S
What 3D printers are you currently running the most?(sorry if this has been asked before). I recently bought a Bambu P2S, and was wondering what the cast using for gun related prints. Also, will you be getting shitfaced with any of the agency/viewers at Guncon?
Question from Billy C
If the cast members were individually marooned on a desert island with no rescue in sight, with a half woman half goat, would they prefer their companion to be a bottom half woman or bottom half goat?
WINNER
Question from Karl F
I’ve always heard that you should mount a red dot as far forward as possible since that makes the body take up less space in your view but the dot itself stays the same size. Now this usually means as far forward as possible without putting it on the handguard since that’s more prone to lose zero; however, what do you do if you have a monolithic upper? Am I supposed to put the red dot all the way forward where a front iron sight would be if I actually cared to use one? I’ve never seen anyone do this, but I also haven’t seen a ton of people using guns with monolithic uppers. Thanks#blamecanada
Question from Romeo Whiskey
Hey all,We were talking about wildcat cartridges at work and I was trying to describe Jeremy’s Rock Chucker. I couldn’t remember the parent case or caliber bullet you used. I remember it was like 4200 fps or something retarded like that. Can you remind me please, so I don’t have to dig through the old transcripts? Thanks

Range Minded Podcast 328 – The Fog of Information: Is Too Much Info Making Decisions Harder Just Killing the Vibe?
2026/10/06
Episode 328: The Fog of Information. Is Too Much Info Making Decisions Harder, or Just Killing the Vibe?
More gun content does not always make you a better shooter, a smarter buyer, or a freer citizen. Past a point it does the opposite. This episode is about analysis paralysis, the jam study, and why a firehose of 2A videos can freeze the decision to buy, train, and actually enjoy the Second Amendment.
In 2000, researchers Sheena Iyengar and Mark Lepper set out 6 jars of jam and 24. The big display drew more shoppers. The small one sold more jars. People who stopped at 6 flavors were about six times more likely to buy. The gun counter, the optic rabbit hole, and the “best first handgun” search work the same way. Variety gets the click. Too much variety kills the decision.
We also get into who is worth your time, what to skip, and how to cap the research so the range trip still happens. New shooters, longtime owners, and anyone watching from outside: the fog is normal. The right is simple. The catalog is not.
Mentioned Sheena Iyengar and Mark Lepper, the jam study (2000) Barry Schwartz, The Paradox of Choice John Caile, “Research: Keep It Simple,” USCCA (2017) Darryl Worley, “Too Many Pockets” Lipsey’s Bulletin, “If You Want to Sell More, Show Less”

2026/10/05
Episode 33 spirals into peak degenerate territory as special guest Chad from Gun & Gear Review Podcast joins the crew to talk shop about full-auto .22 conversions, inheriting Tony Simon, and his grandma shooting hawks out of the sky from her back. The broadcast swiftly derails when viewers start weaponizing $20 super chats to force Dan into drinking straight Jeppson’s Malort on-air, leaving him contemplating early retirement while complaining it tastes like chewing on pine needles. Meanwhile, Dusky recounts driving hours to a 3-Gun match only to finish dead last after his cursed Remington 887 turned budget shotgun shells into crushed origami. To cap off the madness, Drew mounts a freebie Gideon scope he practically begged off Bob onto a .17 WSM rig with the sole ambition of sniping workplace coyotes out of his truck window.

AR-15 Podcast 542 – Mountain Billy Gun Lab
2026/10/05
This week the guys sit down with Mountain Billy Gun Lab to talk about building some seriously lightweight guns. If you think your AR is light, wait until you hear about the GOAT-15.
We get into how Mountain Billy got started, what drove them to build an AR-style .22 that weighs just a few pounds, and why lightweight and compact guns can make a lot of sense for hunting, training, backpacking and just getting out and shooting. We also talk about the GOAT-15 HELIUM, the ATOM and H2, how they managed to get the weight down, and what you give up — if anything — by making a rifle this light.
How do you build a reliable rifle when every ounce matters? Why a .22? And what happens when you take the AR platform and make it small enough that you actually want to carry it all day?
Tune in this week as we get into Mountain Billy Gun Lab and find out what makes the GOAT-15 tick!

Episode 109 is all about Audience Q&A. Josh (JAYWETH) and Darius (DEEEZGAINS) answer questions from the MacBroz community and give their takes on gear, training, upgrades, optics, and plenty of gun-industry opinions along the way.
We talk Gideon Optics, upgrades that actually make a difference, where your money should go first—ammo, training, or gear—dry fire, getting better as a shooter, and whether most people are better off running a comp, ports, or just leaving their gun stock.
Plus, we catch up on what’s new with the Broz, including the Tisas PX-9 Carry, DS9 Comp, Staccato C, new Tier 1 holsters, and the Gideon Valor Mini.

2026/10/02
In this episode of the Range Minded Podcast,
we visit the latest injection from the 5th Circuit Court on interstate handgun purchases: will you be able to buy handguns out of state without the hassle of sending them back to your home state FFL? We also talk about one of President Trump's executive actions: "REINVIGORATING AMERICA’S HUNTING HERITAGE". It's all about making hunting great again in the USA! How could this affect your next hunting trip? And what grade does your elected official get from the NSSF? Every year, the NSSF gives out report cards; below is the link to see for yourself! I hope you enjoy this episode, and make sure you do all the normal things (Like-Sub-Comment-Share)!
