Why More Tutorials Won't Fix Your Mixes
2026/10/02
🎚️🎚️ Join the waitlist for Pro Sound Secrets, my advanced mixdown program - https://www.basskleph.com/pss You could watch a thousand more tutorials and your mixes still wouldn't sound pro. Here's why, and what actually fixes it. So you've probably watched hundreds of these videos by now. Way too much YouTube, way too many plugins bought. And your tracks still don't sound how you want them to. The thing is, a lot of those tips are fine on their own. But one person's tip was never built to work with someone else's. They don't even know the other one exists. Different genre, different kind of track, different way of working. So you stack them up in one project and they cancel each other out, or make things worse. That's not a system, that's a mess. In this one I get into why piecing it together yourself almost never works, the one rule I'll actually stand behind, the objections I hear the most ("I don't have time," "I'm not good enough yet") and the three pieces you need working together to get a pro sound. I also talk about learning the slow way, starting around 1999, and why it really didn't need to take me 25 years. Pro Sound Secrets opens again October 7th 2026. Get on the waitlist for first access: basskleph.com/pss And let me know in the comments, how many tutorials deep are you right now? 0:00 Why Your Tutorials Are Failing You 1:33 The Need For A Cohesive System 3:16 The Only Rule You Should Follow 5:31 Is A Better System Worth The Time? 10:30 The Three Pillars Of Pro Sound
Why You Don't Trust Your Mixes Enough to Send Them Anywhere
2026/09/25
🎚️🎚️ Join the waitlist for Pro Sound Secrets, my advanced mixdown program - https://www.basskleph.com/pss Do you often find yourself hesitant to share your music mixes with others, whether it's a client, a collaborator, or a record label? If so, you're not alone. Many music producers and audio engineers struggle with trusting their mixes enough to send them out into the world. In this video, we'll explore the reasons behind this lack of confidence and provide valuable insights to help you overcome your doubts. From imposter syndrome to fear of criticism, we'll delve into the psychological and technical aspects that hold you back from sharing your work. By the end of this video, you'll gain a deeper understanding of what's holding you back and learn practical tips to build your confidence and start sharing your mixes with the world. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, this video is for anyone who wants to break free from self-doubt and take their music to the next level. 0:00 The Hidden Truth Behind Your Mixing Struggles 0:45 Building Trust in Your Own Creative Decisions 2:19 Defining What a Finished Track Actually Looks Like 6:13 The Vital Role of Constructive Feedback 11:06 The Surprising Power of Low-Pressure Creativity
Your Reference Track Is Lying: How to Reference Mixes the Right Way (What to Listen For)
2026/09/18
🎚️🎚️ Join the waitlist for Pro Sound Secrets, my advanced mixdown program - https://www.basskleph.com/pss Stop letting your reference track lie to you. Learn how to properly compare mix quality by accounting for loudness bias. Most producers struggle because they compare their work to commercial songs without adjusting for volume. When you play tracks side-by-side, the louder version almost always sounds better to your brain, regardless of actual quality. This video explains why this happens and provides a reliable system for accurate mixing. You will learn how to use a loudness meter to level match your reference tracks, ensuring you are evaluating the balance and frequency spectrum rather than just raw volume. Effective referencing requires more than just a quick A/B test at the end of a session. I cover why you should integrate comparisons early in your workflow, starting from the arrangement phase through to the final balance. By asking specific questions about low-end weight, vocal presence, and stereo width, you can make objective decisions about your mix. Why Compression Still Feels Like Guesswork Even After Years
2026/09/10
🎚️🎚️ Join the waitlist for Pro Sound Secrets, my advanced mixdown program - https://www.basskleph.com/pss Compression Isn't a Dark Art: Ask This One Question Before Touching Any Knob This episode explains why compression stays confusing for many producers: it's usually taught as threshold, ratio, attack, and release without teaching the actual goal. The script reframes compression as four different "jobs" done with the same plugin, peak control, evening out a performance, glue for group cohesion, and character for audible pumping/aggression, and argues that settings only make sense once you know which job you're doing. It gives starting-point guidance for each job (e.g., fast attack/high ratio for peaks; slower attack/gentler ratio for leveling; low ratio/slow attack for glue) and suggests bypass-checking to confirm you haven't drifted into the wrong job. It recommends saying the job out loud before inserting any compressor, and promotes the Pro Sound Secrets program and waitlist at basskleph.com/pss. 00:00 Why Compression Feels Hard 01:21 Knobs Without A Goal 02:41 Four Jobs Of Compression 02:55 Peak Control Explained 03:27 Evening Out Dynamics 03:57 Glue And Cohesion 04:31 Character And Pumping 05:26 Ask The One Question 05:56 Settings For Each Job 07:55 Bypass Test And Pitfalls 09:21 My Turning Point Story 10:50 Build The Habit With Reps 12:20 Next Session Action Plan 12:45 Final Takeaways And Next Episode
Golden Ears Don't Exist. Here's How Pros Actually Learn to Hear
2026/09/03
🎚️🎚️ Join the waitlist for Pro Sound Secrets, my advanced mixdown program - https://www.basskleph.com/pss You don't have bad ears. The "golden ears" myth might actually be what's keeping you stuck. In this episode of Producer Talk, I break down why great ears aren't something you're simply born with. They're built through repetition, having a system, and getting the right feedback. If you've ever felt like other producers can hear things that you can't, this episode will show you how to start developing that skill yourself. IN THIS EPISODE: • Why the "golden ears" myth can hurt your confidence and your mixes • Why some producers improve much faster than others, and why it's not just talent • The 3-part framework for training your ears: Repetition + System + Feedback • How to build a process that helps you identify and correct problems yourself • How to stop thinking "I can't hear it" and start developing your ears through deliberate practice
If Information Alone Was the Answer, You'd Already Have a Hit (w Jon Pegnato)
2026/07/25
In this episode of Producer Talk, I sit down with John Pegnato (LA Riots, Cobra Effect, Hot Mouth) to unpack the thing most producers skip entirely: getting real, pro feedback on your music. We dig into why the abundance of tutorials hasn't translated into better tracks for most people, and why the missing piece isn't more information, it's an outside ear that tells you what you can't hear yourself. We cover: Why tutorials alone won't get you to a release-ready track The "unknown unknowns" that keep you stuck on the same mistakes How to detach your ego from your music so feedback actually lands Why your friends' opinions might be hurting you more than helping The case for finishing more tracks instead of perfecting one The Track Sprint summer bootcamp "If information alone was the answer, you'd already have a release-ready track." 🔗 Mentoring & courses: https://basskleph.com
What Mixing Feels Like When It Finally Clicks (And Why Most Producers Never Get There)
2026/06/20
Learn more about Pro Sound Secrets and join the wait list: https://www.basskleph.com/pss  Most producers assume that getting a pro mix is about learning more techniques. It's not. In this episode, Bass Kleph breaks down why talented, experienced producers stay stuck at the same level for years, and what actually separates the ones who break through from the ones who don't. You'll hear why knowledge alone is never the real bottleneck, the one thing that makes progress accelerate faster than any tutorial ever will, and what it genuinely feels like when mixing stops being a struggle and starts feeling natural. If you've been producing for years and still feel like you're hitting a ceiling, this one is for you.
