The show opens with a deep dive into Sami Zayn's role as special guest referee for the Gunther vs. Cody Rhodes WWE Championship match, with JD making the bold case that Zayn should walk out of Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia as the new WWE Champion. The guys break down the chemistry between Zayn and Cody Rhodes, the creative stagnation on SmackDown, and how a triple threat match could breathe new life into the brand. The episode also covers CM Punk's two-month absence from WWE television and what it means for the company's biggest stars, LA Knight's continued misuse by WWE creative, and the King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring tournament results with Oba Femi and IYO SKY advancing to the finals. On the AEW side, Coach and JD dissect the Forbidden Door pay-per-view card, the state of AEW Dynamite's creative, and whether the New Japan partnership still has any real value. The episode closes with a discussion on Logan Paul's injury and the lost art of the clean finish in modern pro wrestling. 2 Count is the fastest show in all of pro wrestling.
