Darryl Ferneyhough was out doing what he loved, dancing in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the night of May 12, 2001. He had  plans to crash at his cousin’s nearby apartment, borrows a spare key and $5, and then disappears. The last confirmed sightings are chillingly specific: he’s seen at Club NRG around 1:30 a.m., then spotted again at about 3:40 a.m. running near Gottingen Street by the Marquee Club. After that, nothing: no bank activity, no contact with friends or family, and no confirmed trace for more than 25 years. We walk through what’s known about Darryl’s life in Dartmouth and Halifax, why his family believes he did not leave voluntarily, and how delays in passing along key information can complicate any missing person investigation. We also talk openly about the limits of public reporting in cold cases and why the smallest observation from a night out can matter years later. If you’ve ever wondered how cases stall, this one shows how quickly a narrow window for witnesses can close. Then we explore the unsettling overlap with another Halifax disappearance from the same period. Police have publicly said they did not find a connection between the two men beyond the timing and the shared nightlife context, but the proximity raises hard questions about safety, bias, and the fear of targeted anti-2SLGBTQ+ violence. We also discuss why the detail of Daryl running at 3:40 a.m., and ask what happened in those two hours. If you have any information on  Darryls disappearance, please don’t assume it’s too small to help. A 17-year-old walks out of the Nova Scotia woods and onto a main road, speaks to a passing hunter, checks a pocket watch that reads about 2:45 p.m. and then seems to vanish in the time it takes for someone else to drive a few kilometres. That teen is Patrick “Patty” Paddon, and more than five decades later, his family still has no confirmed trace of him or the gear he carried. Content warning: this story involves the disappearance of a minor, possible death, and discussion of foul play theories. We trace Patty’s last known day in Colchester County, from the hunting plan with his father and uncle to the safety rules meant to keep everyone in the same area. Then the case turns on the most unsettling detail: the reported conversation on Pembroke Road and the impossibly tight window that follows. If Patty is on the road and people are searching nearby within minutes, why doesn’t he answer rifle shots, a car horn, or shouted calls? We also dig into the search itself and why it stands out in Nova Scotia true crime history: volunteers, RCMP coordination, tracking dogs, snowmobiles, helicopters, and military support, with huge ground and aerial coverage and still no boots, no rifle, no compass, no flare, no ring. We share how We the Missing and Patty’s niece Nicole have kept the file alive, and we talk through the questions that remain, including the eerie context of multiple hunter disappearances in the 1969 season. If you care about cold cases, missing persons in Canada, and the way small timeline details can change everything, listen now, share Patty’s story, and please subscribe and leave a review so more people see it. She lands in Halifax with a backpack and a carefully saved stash of cash, calls home from an airport payphone to say she made it, and then disappears somewhere between Halifax International Airport and downtown. Andrea Lynn King was 18 years old, travelling solo across Canada, and excited to tour universities before choosing her future. That single phone call on January 1, 1992 becomes the last confirmed moment anyone can place her, and the silence after it turns into one of Nova Scotia’s most haunting unsolved murder investigations.  We walk through what’s known and what’s missing: the plan to stay at the Halifax Youth Hostel, the family’s shock when staff say she never arrived, and the early scramble to get police attention from across the country. We also unpack the investigative obstacles that keep showing up in this file: airport surveillance that wasn’t preserved, delays in getting a passenger manifest, and later reporting that suggests key DNA evidence may have gone missing before modern forensic testing could be used. When Andrea’s remains are found near Highway 102 almost a year later, the case shifts from missing person to homicide, but the most important hour still can’t be reconstructed.  We also discuss why Andrew Paul Johnson’s name surfaces in connection with multiple Nova Scotia cases and what investigators reportedly found during searches, while being clear about the crucial fact: he has never been charged with Andrea King’s murder. The case remains open, with Nova Scotia’s Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program offering up to $150,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. If you listen to one true crime story that you share forward, let it be Andrea’s. A woman leaves her home for a short walk on a warm August night in Kentville, Nova Scotia and she never comes back. Rhonda Joyce Wilson disappears on August 7, 2002, and more than 20 years later her family is still living with the kind of uncertainty that never lets you rest. This story includes conversations about intimate partner violence, domestic abuse, addiction, homicide, and the loss of a loved one, so please take care while listening. We start with who Rhonda is beyond the missing posters: a daughter, a sister, and a mother of three children who, according to her family, she would never willingly leave behind. From there, we trace the limited public timeline, the three-day delay before she is reported missing, and the investigative dead ends that come with a 2002 disappearance: no smartphones, no doorbell cameras, no reliable witness sightings, and no bank activity to suggest she started over. Then the case turns into something much bigger, pulling in one of the most controversial RCMP techniques ever used in Canada: the Mr Big undercover operation. We break down how Mr Big stings work, why they can produce confessions, and why they can also raise serious reliability concerns. We also walk through the 2013 arrest, the major searches near Sheffield Mills, and what it means to prosecute a no body homicide case. Finally, we explain how the Supreme Court of Canada’s Nelson Hart decision changed the rules for Mr Big confessions and why the murder charge in Rhonda’s case is withdrawn in 2014, even as investigators say the case remains active. If you care about missing women in Nova Scotia, cold cases, RCMP investigations, and how Canadian criminal law shapes what justice can look like, this one will stay with you. A 20-year-old university student walks down Main Street in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, gets a friendly wave from a classmate, and then seems to vanish off the map. Kenley Matheson disappears on September 21, 1992, and the facts that should point somewhere, a backpack, a quiet dorm room, a small ATM withdrawal, only lead back into questions. We trace Kenley’s first weeks at Acadia University during Frosh Week, where he’s new, introverted, and still building a tiny circle of friends. We talk through the party night where witnesses remember him acting unlike himself, the sister visit that later feels heavier in hindsight, and the strange gaps that open up once he stops going to class and never shows for study plans. With no body and no obvious crime scene, early assumptions that he simply left to travel shape everything that follows, including what evidence may have been lost before anyone realized the urgency. From there, we lay out the main theories that keep this cold case alive: voluntary disappearance versus accident, suicide, hazing, or foul play, plus the later allegations that surface long after 1992. We also dig into the docuseries Missing Kenley and the renewed searches it helped spark, including the 2023 cadaver dog indication on Melanson Mountain and the crushing update that no human remains were found. If you care about missing persons investigations in Canada, RCMP cold cases, and how timelines break under pressure, Kenley’s case is a sobering study in what we know and what we still don’t. A 17-year-old answers the house phone in Spryfield, Nova Scotia. Twenty minutes later she walks out the door, leaves her cigarettes and a fresh glass of pop behind, and never makes it home. Thirty-three years on, the murder of Shelley Denise Connors remains one of Halifax’s most unsettling cold cases, not because there are no theories, but because so much of what people know has been swallowed by time, weather, and fear. We trace the timeline from May 29, 1993 through the search behind J.L. Illsley High School and the Spryfield Lions rink, where Shelley’s body is found after days of torrential rain. We talk about the strangulation finding, the missing brown leather jacket, the black cowboy boots, and the house keys that never turn up. You’ll also hear why a set of threatening pager messages mattered in the early hours, and how pre cell phone reality shaped every decision and delay. We also lean on what only a community can provide: memories from Shelley’s sister and friends, including the coded letter police needed help decoding. From there we carefully examine people of interest and long-running rumours, discuss what investigators look for in motive and opportunity, and weigh why notorious serial offender theories get attached to Nova Scotia cases even when the fit is shaky. A retired detective’s line sticks with us: “fear is what makes sure the taps don’t leak.” If that was true in 1993, we’re asking what changes in 2026. If Shelley’s story stays with you, subscribe, share this episode with someone, and leave a review so more people see it. What do you think is the key detail that finally breaks this case open?
