New here..?
Welcome! :)
We're Chris Draper and Richard Jupp, and between us we've spent about 55 years (!) in the music industry.
Rick co-founded Elbow, co-wrote the records and played drums with the band for 25 years, picking up prizes and performing on the world's most iconic stages. These days, he passes on what he knows at LIPA and through his own teaching practice, helping others to forge successful careers in what is becoming an increasingly difficult industry.
Chris spent the first five years of his career working out of Ronnie Scott's in Soho, London, before getting sidetracked into theatre land, where he now plays drums on Hamilton in the West End. He's also a functional strength and performance specialist, and spends most of his working week supporting musicians and artists around the world with their physical preparation.
This podcast started out as a weekly phone call, where we would debrief the week, chat through whatever we're working on, and generally help each other figure out what the hell we're doing.
We've decided to open these chats to the public, bringing in world-class musicians from around the globe to help us answer a single question:
What are you doing behind the scenes that nobody else sees?
The rituals, the sleep, the training, the food, the little hacks that allow you to thrive rather than just survive.
Our thesis is simple. If we've developed methods for this, so have others.
So we're opening the doors to find out what life is like behind the velvet curtain for our favourite musicians and artists.
