Elijah Melendez Is Taking OVER Auburn's Defense! Xavier Atkins' Exit Changes EVERYTHING!
2026/10/21
Elijah Melendez is emerging as the new face of Auburn football's defense, and Xavier Atkins' dismissal could make his leadership even more important as the Tigers prepare to face LSU.
After Auburn's historic upset of No. 1 Georgia, Alex Golesh and defensive coordinator DJ Durkin have plenty of reasons to feel confident about the future of their defense.
But Auburn's recent social media activity may have revealed something even bigger about Melendez's growing role within the program.
On today's Auburn HIT, we examine how Melendez has become one of Auburn's most important defensive players and why his leadership could define the Tigers' next chapter.
A recent War Eagle Plus locker room video prominently featured Melendez addressing his teammates following the Georgia victory.
For a sophomore, that kind of leadership stands out.
Melendez has already established himself on the field with physical tackling, impressive run defense, an interception against Gunner Stockton and a crucial late-game pass breakup against Georgia.
Now he's emerging as a vocal leader inside Auburn's locker room.
With Atkins no longer on the roster, Auburn needs other defenders to take on greater responsibilities.
Bryce Deas is one of those players.
His ability to defend the run, cover tight ends and running backs, and execute his assignments will be critical against Lane Kiffin's LSU offense.
Jared Smith is another name to watch.
Auburn needs Smith to become a more consistent pass-rushing threat, especially following Atkins' departure.
Smith showed encouraging flashes against Georgia, but can he deliver his best performance against LSU?
We discuss why Melendez, Deas and Smith could determine whether Auburn's defense builds on its Georgia performance and pulls off another SEC upset.
Has Elijah Melendez officially become the face of Auburn's defense?

Byrum Brown Just Joined LEGENDARY Company! Has Auburn FINALLY Unlocked Its Offense?!
2026/10/21
Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown just joined legendary company alongside Vince Young, Kyler Murray and Nick Marshall following the Tigers' stunning upset of No. 1 Georgia! But has Alex Golesh finally discovered the offensive identity Auburn needs to compete with anybody in college football?
On today's Auburn HIT, we break down two incredible statistics from Auburn's historic victory in Athens and explain why Brown's rushing ability could be the key to beating LSU.
According to Auburn's athletic department, Brown became the first quarterback since Vince Young in the 2005 national championship game to rush for at least 100 yards in a victory over the AP No. 1 team.
He also became Auburn's first quarterback since Nick Marshall in 2013 to rush for 100 yards in consecutive games.
And there's another impressive comparison.
Brown became the first quarterback since Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray in 2018 to record at least 150 passing yards and 100 rushing yards against the nation's top-ranked team.
But these accomplishments tell only part of the story.
Brown's physical running style creates opportunities throughout Auburn's offense. His ability to extend drives forces defenses to respect the quarterback run, opening opportunities for Jeremiah Cobb, Omar Mabson, Chas Nimrod and Keshaun Singleton.
Against Georgia, Auburn finally leaned into those strengths earlier in the game.
Now the challenge is building on that success.
With Lane Kiffin and LSU coming to Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn needs Brown involved in the rushing attack from the opening possession rather than waiting until the offense starts struggling.
Can Brown deliver another historic performance against LSU? And has Auburn finally found the offensive formula that could change its entire season?

Auburn NEEDS These 2 Players to BEAT LSU!
2026/10/20
Auburn football has a chance to pull off another massive SEC upset against LSU, but Jeremiah Cobb and Chas Nimrod could determine whether Alex Golesh and the Tigers can build on their historic victory over No. 1 Georgia!
After defeating the Bulldogs 27-24 in Athens, Auburn returns to Jordan-Hare Stadium looking for its second consecutive statement victory.
But beating LSU will require another strong offensive performance.
On today's Auburn HIT, we identify two offensive playmakers who could make the biggest difference against LSU, along with two additional players who will be critical to Auburn's success.
First, Jeremiah Cobb needs to become an even bigger part of the rushing attack.
Byrum Brown was outstanding against Georgia, but Auburn cannot afford to rely exclusively on its quarterback's legs throughout a demanding SEC schedule.
Cobb has an opportunity to take pressure off Brown, establish consistency on the ground and help Auburn control the football against another physical defensive front.
Omar Mabson could also contribute to the running game, while questions remain about Bryson Washington's involvement.
The second player to watch is Chas Nimrod.
While Keshaun Singleton has established himself as a reliable receiving option, Auburn needs more explosive plays through the air.
Nimrod has demonstrated his ability to stretch defenses vertically, but the Tigers haven't consistently utilized that part of his game this season.
Could LSU be the opponent where Auburn finally unleashes Nimrod downfield?
We also examine the importance of center Cole Best, the improvement of Auburn's offensive line and Joel Gordon's play-calling adjustments against Georgia.
With Brown's health and workload becoming increasingly important, Auburn needs a complete offensive performance to defeat LSU.
Which Auburn offensive player will make the biggest difference Saturday?

Xavier Atkins BREAKS SILENCE After Auburn DISMISSAL! Alex Golesh Makes HUGE Culture Decision!
2026/10/20
Xavier Atkins has been dismissed from Auburn football, and the former All-American linebacker has now responded publicly! Alex Golesh's decision to move on from one of the Tigers' most talented defensive players raises major questions about Auburn's locker room, team culture and linebacker depth heading into LSU.
On today's Auburn HIT, we break down the latest developments surrounding Atkins' dismissal, his public response and what the decision means for Auburn's defense.
Atkins missed Auburn's historic 27-24 victory over No. 1 Georgia while serving a suspension. Following reports of his dismissal, Atkins posted a statement expressing respect for Auburn University and support for his former teammates.
He also indicated that his focus would remain on his health, family and academics before entering the transfer portal at the appropriate time.
But why did Auburn make this decision?
Reports discussed on the show suggest that concerns from teammates may have played a role in the disciplinary process. While the complete circumstances remain unclear, Golesh has consistently emphasized the importance of protecting Auburn's culture.
Moving on from a former All-American represents one of the most significant personnel decisions of his young tenure.
The good news for Auburn is that its defense just delivered its best performance of the season without Atkins.
Elijah Melendez, Bryce Diaz and DeMarcus Riddick helped Auburn contain Georgia's rushing attack, with DJ Durkin's defense showing improved discipline and run fits.
However, linebacker depth remains a legitimate concern if injuries occur.
We examine whether Auburn's defense can maintain its momentum, why Melendez has emerged as a leader and what Atkins' departure could mean for the Tigers' locker room.
Did Alex Golesh make the right decision for Auburn football's future?

Alex Golesh and Auburn Tigers Can BEAT ANYBODY After Georgia Upset!
2026/10/19
Auburn football just changed the entire narrative of its 2026 season! After stunning No. 1 Georgia 27-24 in Athens, Alex Golesh and the Auburn Tigers have proven they can compete with anybody remaining on their SEC schedule.
But was Auburn's historic victory a one-time performance, or did the Tigers finally discover their identity?
Auburn delivered its most complete offensive performance of the season against one of the toughest defenses in college football.
Byrum Brown looked comfortable, confident and dangerous as both a passer and runner. Jeremiah Cobb found running lanes against Georgia's defense, while receivers Chas Nimrod, Keshaun Singleton and Jeremiah Koger made critical contributions.
Even Christian Neptune got involved with a touchdown pass!
Perhaps the biggest surprise was Auburn's offensive line, which delivered its best performance of the season in arguably the most difficult environment imaginable.
And what about Joel Gordon?
Despite speculation that Alex Golesh had taken over play-calling responsibilities, the offensive coordinator reportedly remained responsible for the offense against Georgia.
If Gordon can consistently produce that level of execution, Auburn's offensive ceiling could be significantly higher than previously expected.
Now attention turns toward LSU.
After winning in Athens for the first time since 2005, Auburn returns home with renewed confidence and an opportunity to build on its biggest victory in years.
We discuss why LSU is a winnable matchup, how Auburn's improved play in the trenches changes expectations against Ole Miss and Alabama, and why Alex McPherson's game-winning field goal deserves a permanent place in Auburn football history.
Can Auburn turn one historic upset into a second-half SEC surge?

Auburn vs. Georgia Prediction: These 2 Tigers MUST STEP UP! Can Auburn Avoid Disaster?!
2026/10/16
Auburn football faces a massive challenge against Georgia, and Alex Golesh's Tigers need two offensive players to step up if they want any chance of pulling off an upset in Athens. Plus, we reveal an official Auburn vs. Georgia score prediction.
With Byrum Brown facing one of the toughest defenses on Auburn's schedule, tight end Arlis Boardingham and center Cole Best could determine whether the Tigers can compete against Georgia.
Boardingham needs to become a reliable target in the passing game, particularly when Georgia's defensive front puts pressure on Brown. His ability to catch passes, create mismatches and contribute as a blocker could be essential to Auburn's offensive success.
Meanwhile, Cole Best faces enormous pressure as the leader of Auburn's offensive line.
The Tigers have struggled with consistency up front, and Best has received significant criticism over the past two weeks. Can Auburn's center deliver his best performance against Georgia's talented defensive line?
We also break down Auburn's biggest concern heading into Saturday: another disastrous first quarter.
Auburn has struggled to establish offensive rhythm early in games, and falling behind Georgia in Athens could make an already difficult matchup nearly impossible.
Could Auburn's defense keep the Tigers competitive, or will Georgia eventually pull away?
The official prediction is Georgia defeating Auburn 35-17, with concerns about Auburn's slow starts, offensive line struggles and ability to sustain drives against an elite opponent.
We examine what Auburn must do to outperform that prediction, why Boardingham and Best are critical to the game plan and how this matchup could shape expectations for the rest of the season.

Auburn Fans Are OUTRAGED Over Savannah Bananas?! Why Auburn Athletics Got This RIGHT!
2026/10/16
Auburn Athletics is bringing the Savannah Bananas and Banana Ball back to Auburn in 2027, with games scheduled at Plainsman Park and Jordan-Hare Stadium. But some Auburn Tigers fans are criticizing the decision, and the backlash raises a bigger question about the future of Auburn athletics.
Why are fans upset about an event that could bring thousands of visitors and additional revenue to Auburn?
The Savannah Bananas have become one of the biggest entertainment attractions in sports, selling out venues across the country. Their 2027 tour will bring all six Banana Ball teams to Auburn, with two games at Plainsman Park and another at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Auburn officials are anticipating approximately 100,000 attendees across the three games.
For Auburn University, the athletic department and local businesses, that represents a significant opportunity.
The announcement also comes after Auburn moved its home football game against Baylor to Atlanta, a controversial decision that raised concerns about lost revenue for businesses surrounding campus.
Now Auburn is working to bring additional major events to town, including concerts, international soccer and Banana Ball.
We discuss why these decisions make financial sense in the modern era of college athletics, how additional revenue opportunities could support Auburn's competitive future and why fans should separate their frustrations with Auburn football from the administration's efforts to generate resources.
Not everyone has to enjoy Banana Ball. But does that make bringing the Savannah Bananas to Auburn a bad decision?
There's a difference between questioning how Auburn spends its resources and criticizing the university for finding new ways to generate them.
Do you support Auburn hosting the Savannah Bananas, or do you understand the criticism?

Auburn NEEDS These 2 Defensive Stars to SHOCK Georgia!
2026/10/15
Auburn football needs its biggest defensive playmakers to deliver against No. 1 Georgia, and two Tigers could be the difference between another disappointing rivalry loss and a massive upset in Athens.
Alex Golesh and Auburn enter Saturday's matchup as three-touchdown underdogs, but if the Tigers have any chance of shocking the Georgia Bulldogs, Eric Winters and Jared Smith must play their best football of the season.
Winters delivered an outstanding performance against Baylor earlier this year, showing the potential to become one of Auburn's most important defensive players.
But can he replicate that performance against Georgia?
With the Bulldogs featuring talented running backs and tight ends, Auburn needs Winters to make plays in coverage, defend the run and elevate the entire secondary.
We discuss how his performance could impact Sylvester Smith-Reed, Champ Anthony, Caleb Harris, Rayshawn Pleasant and the rest of Auburn's defensive backs.
Then there's Jared Smith.
Auburn entered the season expecting Smith to become a difference-maker along its defensive front. After flashing his potential against Baylor, the young pass rusher hasn't consistently delivered the disruptive performances the Tigers need.
Now Auburn faces one of its toughest challenges of the season.
Can Smith finally break through with multiple sacks and consistent quarterback pressure against Georgia?
With Xavier Atkins unavailable, generating pressure from Auburn's defensive front becomes even more important.
We break down why Winters and Smith are two of the most important players to watch, what each must accomplish and why Auburn needs its defensive stars to deliver in the biggest moments.

Alex Golesh ADMITS Auburn's Offensive Line Has a BIG Problem vs. Georgia!
2026/10/15
Auburn football faces a massive challenge against Georgia, and Alex Golesh's latest comments about starting center Cole Best raise serious questions about whether the Tigers can fix their struggling offensive line.
Following Auburn's disappointing offensive performance against Tennessee, Golesh acknowledged that Best struggled and explained that the coaching staff is focused on understanding why rather than finding a replacement.
But what happens when the biggest problem might not have an immediate solution?
Auburn's offensive line has struggled with physicality, consistency and costly penalties throughout the season. Now the Tigers must prepare for an even more difficult matchup against Georgia's defensive front.
We break down Golesh's comments about Cole Best, why physical development could be a major factor in his struggles and why replacing him isn't necessarily a realistic option at this point in the season.
We also examine Auburn's offensive line rotation, including the competition at left tackle between Jack Leyrer and Simmons, Wilson Zierer's development at left guard, Kenneth McManus at right guard and Stanton Ramil's performance at right tackle.
But the concerns go beyond individual matchups.
Auburn committed five false starts against Tennessee, repeatedly putting its offense behind schedule and making an already difficult situation even worse.
Now the Tigers head into an intimidating environment in Athens against a Georgia defense that could expose those same weaknesses.
Can Auburn's offensive line eliminate the penalties, protect Byrum Brown and create enough opportunities for the Tigers to compete?
And will Golesh and his offensive coaching staff make the necessary adjustments to give this struggling unit a chance?
With Auburn preparing for one of its toughest challenges of the season, the battle in the trenches could determine everything.

Auburn's Xavier Atkins Loss Is MUCH BIGGER Than We Thought!
2026/10/14
Auburn football will be without Xavier Atkins against Georgia, and his suspension could be a much bigger problem for Alex Golesh and the Tigers than initially expected.
Atkins has been one of Auburn's most disruptive defensive players this season, leading all FBS linebackers with 19 quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Network's Cam Mellor.
That's more than Georgia linebacker Chris Cole, who has recorded 15 pressures.
And with Auburn preparing to face Gunner Stockton and the Georgia Bulldogs, losing one of its most effective defensive playmakers couldn't come at a worse time.
Auburn has recorded 32 tackles for loss against Power Four opponents this season, the second-most in the SEC behind Texas.
But how much of that defensive production depends on Atkins creating pressure and disrupting opposing backfields?
We break down why Atkins' absence could significantly impact Auburn's chances of pulling off a massive upset in Athens.
We also examine the players who must step up in his absence.
Bryce Deas appears positioned to take on a larger role alongside Elijah Melendez, but can he provide the same pass-rushing impact that Atkins brings to DJ Durkin's defense?
And what about Jared Smith?
Auburn needs more production from its defensive front, particularly against a Georgia offense that could capitalize on the Tigers' inability to generate consistent pressure without blitzing.
With Atkins' status beyond the Georgia game still uncertain, Auburn faces important questions about its linebacker rotation and defensive depth.
Can Bryce Deas and Jared Smith deliver the performances Auburn desperately needs against Georgia?

Auburn Making a BIG MOVE for 4-Star OL Jatori Williams?!
2026/10/14
Auburn football is making a serious recruiting push for four-star offensive lineman Jatori Williams, a former Miami commit who could become a major addition to Alex Golesh's 2027 recruiting class.
Williams, a standout offensive lineman from Central-Phenix City, recently decommitted from Miami, and Auburn is reportedly gaining momentum in his recruitment.
Standing approximately 6-foot-4 to 6-foot-5 and weighing around 320 pounds, Williams brings the size, physicality and athleticism that Auburn desperately needs along its offensive line.
But this recruiting development is about much more than one player.
Auburn is already assembling an intriguing group of offensive linemen in its 2027 recruiting class, including Leighton Von Brandt, Reed Ramsier, Jaylen Moore and Rance Brown.
Could adding Williams turn this into one of Auburn's most important offensive line recruiting classes in years?
We break down what makes Williams such an exciting prospect, why his basketball background and athleticism could translate to the SEC, and how Auburn's coaching staff is working to rebuild the offensive line through high school recruiting.
We also take a closer look at Jaylen Moore, an underrated prospect who could become a difference-maker on the interior, and why consistently recruiting elite offensive linemen is essential for Golesh's long-term success.
Georgia has demonstrated what years of successful offensive line recruiting can do for a program. Now Auburn needs to establish that same consistency.
With Auburn preparing to face Georgia this weekend, the importance of building a stronger offensive line has never been more obvious.
Can the Tigers capitalize on the momentum surrounding Jatori Williams and land another major recruiting victory?

Auburn MUST Change Its Offense to Have ANY Chance vs. Georgia!
2026/10/13
Auburn football faces a massive challenge against Georgia, and Alex Golesh and offensive coordinator Joel Gordon may need to completely rethink their offensive approach to give the Tigers a chance in Athens.
Georgia's defensive front presents a significant mismatch for Auburn's struggling offensive line, making it critical for Byrum Brown to get the football out quickly.
Could spreading out Georgia's defense be the answer?
Auburn may need to utilize more quick passes, attack horizontally and force Georgia to remove defenders from the box instead of attempting to win a physical battle at the line of scrimmage.
Chas Nimrod and Keshaun Singleton have been two of Auburn's biggest offensive bright spots this season, becoming the first Auburn receiving duo since at least 1996 to record 25 or more receptions each through the first five games.
But can Brown consistently get them the football before Georgia's pass rush arrives?
The Tigers also need to establish their running game, and that could mean getting Brown involved as a runner much earlier.
Jeremiah Cobb and Omar Mabson have struggled to find consistent running lanes, but spreading out Georgia's defense could create additional opportunities for Auburn's rushing attack.
Perhaps the biggest concern is Auburn's continued slow starts.
The Tigers cannot afford another sluggish opening quarter against one of the nation's best teams, especially on the road.
Can Golesh and Gordon finally establish an offensive identity, or will Auburn's struggles continue against Georgia?
We break down the offensive adjustments Auburn needs to make before Saturday's SEC showdown.

Joel Gordon BLAMES Byrum Brown?! Auburn Has a BIGGER Problem!
2026/10/13
Auburn offensive coordinator Joel Gordon says Byrum Brown's decision-making problems are fixable and avoidable, but is Auburn's coaching staff putting its quarterback in a position to succeed?
After Brown threw seven interceptions against seven touchdowns through the early portion of the season, Gordon addressed the quarterback's struggles, including turnovers, decision-making and adjusting to the speed of SEC football.
But are Auburn's offensive problems really just about Byrum Brown?
Brown is averaging 3.16 seconds to throw, placing him among the slowest quarterbacks in college football according to Pro Football Focus data discussed in today's episode.
That raises an important question about Auburn's offensive approach.
Is Joel Gordon asking Brown to make too many reads instead of simplifying the offense and allowing him to play to his strengths?
Auburn continues to struggle with offensive line protection, creating running lanes for Jeremiah Cobb and Omar Mabson, and establishing a consistent offensive identity.
While Brown deserves criticism for his mistakes, the coaching staff also has a responsibility to make his job easier.
Could quicker reads, designed checkdowns and more opportunities to use Brown's mobility help Auburn find offensive consistency?
Plus, we examine Gordon's public comments about the speed of SEC football and whether those concerns should have been addressed differently.
Alex Golesh and Auburn need offensive answers, and the responsibility extends beyond their starting quarterback.

Alex Golesh Sends a STRONG Message With Xavier Atkins Decision!
2026/10/12
Auburn football coach Alex Golesh confirmed that Xavier Atkins will miss Saturday's game against Georgia, but the way he handled the situation might be just as important as the decision itself.
During his weekly press conference, Golesh addressed the linebacker situation without waiting for reporters to ask about the rumors surrounding Atkins.
He made it clear that Atkins would not be available against Georgia and that his status would be revisited next week.
Was this Golesh sending a message to the entire Auburn football program?
On today's Auburn HIT, we discuss why Golesh's handling of the Xavier Atkins situation was the right approach and what it tells us about the standard he's trying to establish with the Tigers.
Atkins was an All-American last season and remains one of Auburn's most important defensive players. His absence creates an immediate challenge against a Georgia offense that has been extremely effective running the football.
We also examine what happens next for Atkins and whether he could return following the Georgia game.
With Atkins unavailable, Bryce Diaz is expected to take on an expanded role alongside Elijah Melendez.
But what about DeMarcus Riddick?
Golesh indicated that Riddick is getting closer to full health, potentially creating an opportunity for the talented linebacker to earn additional playing time.
We discuss how Auburn could approach its linebacker rotation, what Riddick's recovery means for the defense and why the next several weeks could be important for the future of the position.
Golesh has made his decision.
Now Auburn has to respond.

Auburn Football's Losses Look EVEN WORSE After CHAOTIC SEC Weekend! Is There Still Hope?
2026/10/12
Auburn football didn't play during its bye week, but the latest SEC results have raised even more questions about Alex Golesh and the Tigers. After watching Florida, Vanderbilt and Tennessee struggle, are Auburn's three conference losses looking worse than we originally thought?
The Auburn Tigers entered their bye week hoping to regroup after a frustrating start to SEC play. Unfortunately, the results from around the conference haven't exactly helped Auburn's outlook.
Florida suffered another disappointing defeat, this time against South Carolina. Vanderbilt was overwhelmed by Ole Miss, while Tennessee struggled against an Arkansas team that Auburn had previously viewed as one of its more realistic opportunities for a conference victory.
Does that mean Auburn is further behind the rest of the SEC than we thought?
On today's Auburn HIT, we examine what these results actually mean for the Tigers and whether there's still reason to believe Auburn can turn its season around.
While the performances of Auburn's previous opponents raise legitimate concerns, the unpredictable nature of the SEC could also create opportunities.
LSU now has two losses following its defeat against Kentucky. Could Auburn catch a vulnerable LSU team when the Tigers visit Jordan-Hare Stadium?
We also examine Auburn's remaining schedule, including Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Arkansas.
With bowl eligibility still a realistic goal, the matchups against Mississippi State and Arkansas could ultimately determine whether Auburn finishes 6-6 or misses the postseason.
Can Alex Golesh find a way to steal an SEC victory? Or did the bye-week results expose just how difficult Auburn's remaining schedule could become?
Auburn didn't lose this weekend, but the Tigers may have learned something uncomfortable about their season.
