543: Creepy Little Shack
2026/10/21
It’s Hallowiener time! This year the boys rank some of the stranger (and not so stranger) characters with their own halloween criteria! When these episodes get put together, the titles always come out of something that’s said during the episode. To give you an idea of the episode ahead, here were the title choices… 1-That pumpkinhead could fit some candy 2-He’s enough of a dork to rock a fanny pack 3-I got a rock 4-Ah! He waves weird! 5-I swear to god, if Geoforce wins this…. 6-Yea, but she doesn’t have a utility belt! 7-I’m trying to get forty cakes! 8-Matter Eater Middle Aged Man 9-Bry, just say six! Enjoy. 542: Ganthet Let Teens Drink at His House
2026/10/14
Lanterns finished! Have you watched it? We sure hope so, because it’s the only thing we’re talking about on this week’s episode (we’re considerate, we gave y’all an extra week). What did we like? What did we find a little silly?  Will Guy Gardner ever get rid of the bowl cut? What comes next, if anything, because, well, spoilers, but we’re all hoping for more!   Direct Download: MP3
541: There’s No Baseball in Star Wars
2026/10/07
It’s time again for a chat by the Lava Lamp, our name for an extra relaxed episode with no main topic or segments, just a chill time talking about fun stuff. A belated reaction to Spider-Noir leads us down a tangent of Nicolas Cage’s recent filmography highlights! Once the last Toys R Us finally becomes a Mark’s, where does a local comic nerd get their wonderful toys? On that note, which comic-related action figures hold extra-special places in our hearts? What classic TMNT arcade game is the best: the iconic original or the ambitious Turtles in Time? How do we feel about the recent reboot of Miracleman in “Avengers: Armageddon”, from the lovely Chip Zdarsky? What would be the Green Lanterns’ fighting-game “mains”? Would Spider-Man play Scorpion in Mortal Kombat? The 2010s Mega Man comic series from Archie makes a surprise return at Udon, which is thrilling news to at least one of us! We dig into the secret origin of Doctor Druid, thanks to Back Issue Magazine. Hey, just why is there no paper in “Star Wars”? All this and an invitation to participate in HallowInk! Sound like a fun conversation? Then hop on a blob of liquid wax and settle in for this episode! [NOTE: please do not actually hop on a blob of liquid wax under any circumstances] Direct Download: MP3
540: The Weirdest, Horniest Episode in a While
2026/09/30
It’s card game battle time! The boys use decks of old Marvel trading cards from the 80’s & 90’s to play a battle game they made up and it gets bonkers! Like… weird, horny, nerdy bonkers. All we will say is this…. when two Silver Surfers sixty-nine, do they make a metal clanking sound? Think about it. And let us know. Because we never figure it out. Direct Download: MP3
539: Chris Claremont…We Talk about Him!
2026/09/23
Chris Claremont! He’s kind of THE GUY when it comes to the X-Men being one of the biggest names in comics for the past 40 years. How did he take what was once one of Marvel’s lowest selling books to the top of the comics industry? Where did he come from, and where has he gone, like some sort of Cottoneye Joe? This week, we shine the spotlight on one of comics’ most influential writers. What changed during his nearly-seventeen year run on the book? What plans did he have, and how did collaboration with artists and editorial decisions challenge those ideas? What has he done besides helming Marvel’s Merry Mutants? Can you ever have too much Sage? We answer these as well as maybe three other questions this episode, tovarisch! Direct Download: MP3
538: You Can’t Make an Omelette Without Breaking a Few Hawkpeople
2026/09/17
Hey, y’know who doesn’t have enough supervillains to populate their various galleries of rogues? DC Comics! So this week we come up with some all- and/or mostly-new characters, teams, and other villainous entities to plague the Justice League and/or their assorted Super Friends! Which villains would make up Batman’s own Sinister Six? How would Superman contend with twin villains (twillains!) who give him just the absolute worst luck? Maybe Wonder Woman just beats the hell out of Pete Hegseth and Andrew Tate! Green Lantern faces a Generative-AI Manhunter that scraped all his art and constructs! Does The Flash stand a chance against The Backwards Man… or The Cramps? What happens when Hawkman and Hawkgirl face off against The Wind Farm? And can Aquaman stop The Flood from sinking Florida and rebranding it Disneyworld Atlantis!? All this and much more! But first, the triumphant return of Character Storm! In the warm-up, learn all about the sensational character finds of 2026: The HaberDasher, Krank, and Sluggo Buggo! [WARNING: This segment may include WOIMS!] Direct Download: MP3
537: Wolverine’s Disgusting Claw Holes
2026/09/09
Kra-Ka-KOOM! It’s lightning round time! So that means the boys go through a number of short topics ‘rapid style’ (as rapid as they go). In this episode you may hear about…. How the American Ninja does in a blind ranking of ninjas. Who would we think could replace the big three in the JLA & Avengers (Hal’s into it). Why we think the Great Lakes Avengers aren’t doing their job in a frank discussion of ‘street level’ characters. Wolverine’s disgusting claw holes. Nuff said, bub. Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall Knightfell this week. Comic Music Quiz!! Who is the ghost lady?!?!? No, really. We don’t know. Help us! Direct Download: MP3
536: Say Elsewhaaaaat
2026/09/02
Sometimes, stories go unfinished! Sometimes, the writer bounces off of a book, or is bounced off of a book, or, y’know, there is bouncing involved. And then another writer comes along and changes things, or the book simply goes unfinished. But. What if…? What if that didn’t happen, and the writer finished the story? That’s what we’re here to talk about this week! We cover Omega the Unknown, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Miracleman, the final Mirage run of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even All-Star Batman and Robin! But before that, Kyle challenges Bry and Merk to a movies-starring-actors-who-have-played-comic-characters quiz! Direct Download: MP3
535: Men are from Earth, Psi-Women are from Regulus-Four
2026/08/26
Holy Moly! It’s a Peter Pan and/or Power Records double feature! Listen along as we riff, joke over and comment on two 1970s superhero audio dramas, only ever officially released on vinyl! (And uh, unofficially on YouTube, of course.) In “SHAZAM! THE WORLD’S MIGHTIEST MORTAL: THE MIGHTY DR. ILLUSION”, Billy Batson first shamelessly shills for, and then Captain Marvel ruthlessly battles, the supposedly “mighty” Doctor Illusion! Holy Moly, just who is this not at all familiar bald and bespectacled li’l mad doctor who both amazes and terrorizes the populace, all while sounding like a tweaking Truman Capote trapped in a porta-potty? (And how DOES he gets such incredible radio coverage from WHIZ!?) Then in “WONDER WOMAN: THE AMAZONS FROM SPACE”, Wonder Woman gets super cheesed off at the Psi-Women, an invading gang of 7-foot tall space hotties who want to conquer and subjugate the world’s men! And some of them seem very into it! Board the Robot Plane and thrill as Wondy flouts intergalactic law and puts fist to Space Amazon jaw, and all for… men’s rights!? Don’t bring Hera into this one, Diana! Direct Download: MP3
534: That’s So Raven
2026/08/19
To me my X-Peoples! This week we’re going all X! With the conclusion of season 2 of X-Men 97 and the casting announcements for the first batch of mutants in the MCU…. it’s time to talk X. All that AND we each rank our 7th favourite/best X-Men character. Yup. You read that right. 7th. It’s harder than it looks. Direct Download: MP3
533: I P*ssed YOUR Pants
2026/08/12
Time for a menage-a-quatre! This week, it’s August Audness, duos-style! We’ve picked eight teams, and boy oh boy, are they gonna fight it out for your entertainment. Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, Asterix and Obelix… Pinky and The Brain! Together! Who’s going home with the tag team belts? Listen and find out! Direct Download: MP3
532: Get That Sticky Nicolas Cage Out of My House
2026/08/05
We’re back at last! Our July vacation is over, so now it’s time to talk all about the million or so comic movies and shows we missed this summer, and also the ones on their way (but also the ones that have been cancelled)! And we’ve got strict 5-minute timers to keep things on track! Supergirl! Spider-Man: Brand New Day! X-Men ’97! My Adventures With Superman! Batman: Caped Crusader! Spider-Noir! And more more more!! Direct Download: MP3
531: Canada Day Tijuana Bibles About Sir John A Macdonald and Betty Boop
2026/07/01
It’s CANADA DAY!! So this week the boys talk Canadian comics. Big name Canadian characters. All your favourites like…. Active Jim! Tang! Iron Man (Not that one)! Penguin (Not that one either)! Brok Windsor! Nelvana! Polka Dot Pirate! Speed Savage! And lots more. You know all those right? Yea, us either. So let’s explore the Canadian Comic boom of WWII and beyond. You might even hear about a superhero called Kim Mitchell and his sidekick Paddy O’ Lantern…… We’ll show ourselves out…. to a Canada Day celebration! Direct Download: MP3
530: That’s Meat for Us Mystery Men!
2026/06/25
It’s time for yet another DRAMATIC READING! This time, we check in with everyone’s favourite DC hero, JOHNNY THUNDER (and his “pet genie” Thunderbolt!) as they face down the sinister scourges of disloyal butlers, heroin that makes you think you’re an ape, crime gangs, elaborate schemes to replace cement with pink sand, collapsing buildings, criminal masterminds with extremely obvious false identities, windows, repeated severe head injuries, and a super annoying life-saving genie who won’t leave you alone. All this and the Justice Society, too! We perform the heck out of an 8-page feature from the 1941 golden age classic ALL STAR COMICS #8! Direct Download: MP3
529: Mister Sincere
2026/06/17
Sometimes, good guys go bad. Sure, it happens! But, but! Sometimes, bad guys? They go good! I know, crazy, right? It’s called a face turn, and this week, we’re talking about some of our favourite face turns in comics, as well as racking our brains trying to find villains who HAVEN’T done it before and pitching them, because, as it turns out, it’s more common than you think! Plus, in the Warmup, Kyle finally gets to talk about El Grande Americano, because it’s all he’s wanted to do all year, and it’s his birthday, let the boy have what he wants. Direct Download: MP3
