Gospel of Matthew 6:19-34
2026/09/30
Join us as we explore the Gospel of Matthew 6:19-34.Jesus teaches us to live our lives for God! "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and God will give you everything you need." (v.33)"Store your treasure in heaven." (v.20)What gets in the way of that? Money. Possessions.Jesus calls the question, telling us that we are going to have to make a choice. Will your focus be living for money/trusting money? Will your focus be living for God/trusting God?Most of us would like to answer "both". But Jesus says we need to pick one.If we want to pick God, how do we get free from slipping back into trusting or living for money? That's what we will explore today. Jesus, the Messiah, has something to say about what we do with the money we are given.May Jesus the Messiah keep forming us into the people of God - called to act and be a blessing to all the families of the earth.
Gospel of Matthew 6:1-18
2026/09/14
Join us as we explore the Gospel of Matthew 6:1-18.Jesus warns us to not do our good deeds publicly, to be admired by others. Jesus repeatedly teaches “don’t do as the hypocrites do” (v2, 5, 16) – aka play to the crowd (the term was used for actors who wore a mask - not the more common definition that we use today for people who say one thing and do another). Rather do it in private where only God can see… and then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” (v.4,6,18) Jesus wants us to have a singular heart purpose – do everything for God (the audience of One). In an ‘image management’ world – how might Jesus’ teaching help us?What is one area of your life where you might be doing what you’re doing for image management – rather than that God would be honored or praised? What could you do to change your motivation/focus to doing it for God rather than the approval of the crowd?May Jesus the Messiah keep forming us into the people of God - called to act and be a blessing to all the families of the earth.
Gospel of Matthew 5:27-48
2026/08/26
Join us as we explore the Gospel of Matthew 5:27-48.Matthew wants us to understand that Jesus is the Messiah. He is the fulfillment of what God has been doing through Abraham, King David, and now the focus goes to Moses. Jesus teaches about the law of Moses and even goes so far as to reinterpret it. Six times Jesus says, "You have heard it said.... (and quotes an old testament scripture), but I say to you... (and takes it to a whole new level." It seems Jesus is trying to focus us on not simply obeying the law, but thinking through how do we reflect what God would do.We end with trying to act on what Jesus teaches by asking 2 questions::Who is your enemy? How could you love them, so they become "a neighbor"?May Jesus the Messiah keep forming us into the people of God - called to act and be a blessing to all the families of the earth.
Gospel of Matthew 5:13-26
2026/08/11
Join us as we explore the Gospel of Matthew 5:13-26.As we begin to explore Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, we peek ahead to the end of the sermon, where Jesus tells his followers that their lives will change when they obey his teaching. Jesus' says that they are foolish to listen to his teaching, but then not act on it. Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Specifically he tells them one way to be salt and light is to live reconciled relationships. Don't stay angry with someone. Or if you know someone has something against you - do something about it. Go to that person and work it out. Don't sweep it under the run. Don't just ignore the person or write them off. Take action - go and do the work of being reconciled.May Jesus the Messiah keep forming us into the people of God - called to act and be a blessing to all the families on earth.

Gospel of Matthew - Temptation
2026/06/30
Join us as we explore the Gospel of Matthew 4:1-11. In this scripture, Jesus is in the wilderness for 40 days and nights and faces 3 temptations. The purpose of these temptations was to:1) get Jesus to question his identity - "If you are the Son of God..." (verses 3 & 6)2) stop Jesus from living out his mission/callingTemptation operates the same way in our lives. It's goal is to trip us up. Tempt us to question who God says we are - "his dearly beloved son/daughter". Distract us from living out our mission/calling.May Jesus the Messiah keep forming us into the people of God - called to act and be a blessing to all the families on earth.

"This is my dearly loved child, who brings me great joy." v.172) Live an active faith... serve..."Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God." v.83) Be Prophets and Proclaimers who share with others:"Repent of your sins & turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near." v.2Build the life you want to live. May Jesus the Messiah keep forming us into the people of God - called to act and be a blessing to all the families of the earth.

Gospel of Matthew - Mary, the mother of Jesus
2026/05/11
Join us as we explore what it was like to be the mother of Jesus.Who was Jesus' mom? What was it like being the mother of Jesus? How might God form us today through her story? We have a number of scriptures that teach us about Mary and her relationship with her son, Jesus. So we broke it into 4 different chunks of her life:-Expectant Mother-Mother of more than Jesus-Mother during Jesus' ministry-Mother at Jesus' crucifixion and resurrectionBest yet... four moms who are part of our house churches share what they imagine it would be like to be the mother of Jesus during that part of Mary's life and how God might form us through her story. May Jesus the Messiah keep forming us into the people of God - called to act and be a blessing to all the families on earth.
Gospel of Matthew - Jesus is King!
2026/04/28
Join us as we begin our study of the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew describes his own story as one of an "outsider". Someone who the religious people of the day didn't think was good enough for Jesus. But Matthew held on to Jesus' teaching that "healthy people don't need a doctor, sick people do". It's why we try to create a culture of "No Perfect People Allowed".As we start of the Gospel, Matthew wants us to understand that Jesus is the Messiah, the King, the King of Kings. Jesus is the fulfillment on the promises that God made to Abraham and to King David. Who are the hero's of your family tree? What are the stories that you'd rather not tell? Matthew tells it all for Jesus' family tree - showing us through the highs and lows that God is faithful.May Jesus the Messiah keep forming us into the people of God - called to act and be a blessing to all the families on earth.
The Prophets - Jesus the Prophet
2026/03/23
Join us as we explore Jesus as a prophet. Matthew 23:37-39 are the last words that Jesus says to the crowds:"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God's messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn't let me. And now, look, your house is abandoned and desolate. For I tell you this, you will never see me again until you say, 'Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!'"These words bring us to the end of our seven month study of the prophets and into Holy Week. May we continue to listen to Jesus as a prophet, as he calls us to come back to God today and become the people God dreams we can be.

The prophets were known for calling God's people to come back to God. In this sermon we explore the temptations Jesus faced (Matthew 3:13-4:11) to take his attention/affection/trust/service away from God. How do those same temptations impact us?May God continue to form all of us as we continue to make God's love the core of our identity & motivation to serve.
