Advertise on podcast: Love YA Like Crazy

I thought I'd bring this release of Patreon bonus to a close here, with a rerelease of a bonus episode we recorded in 2018. What do you do when you see one of your best friends for the first time in almost a year? You watch the 2001 movie Josie and the Pussycats! In this bonus episode, we talk about this baffling yet entertaining piece of early 2000s cinematic entertainment. Also discussed: McDonald's themed showers and one of Jake's more interesting music gigs. The theme song is "JOSIE HAS THE UPPER HAND" by Josh Woodward. Free download: http://joshwoodward.com/

Jake saw 'Ready Player One' shortly after it came out in 2018, and decided the same night to record a quick bonus episode about the book, the movie, and how they relate. You can hear a fuller discussion of the book on an early episode of Love YA Like Crazy, and you can hear the Please Don't Send Me Into Outer Space podcast's take on the movie in a special episode they released recently. And you can read Jake's thoughts on another recent YA adaptation, 'A Wrinkle In Time', on his Dreamwidth blog.

Here's an outtake from another episode of Love YA Like Crazy, in which we make fun of a marketing email for around seven and a half minutes. This episode's theme song is 'Surfing' by Komiku, which I found through WFMU's Free Music Archive.

Back in 2017, Carrie and Jake recorded recaps of season 1 of Riverdale, and we've been rereleasing them on the main feed. With this episode, we've reached the final episode, in which things happen. Does Sheriff Keller keep the key to the jail under the welcome mat at the front door? Can one be a murderous, kidnapping thug and the best father in town? Does Pop's take payment in spider brooches? How bad is Archie on the scale of Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper to Moxie Cola? Where do you get pig's blood from, anyway? None of these questions, and more, are answered in this week's episode of 'Mystic Riverdale', in which we discuss Riverdale Chapter 13: The Sweet Hereafter. The theme song is "JOSIE HAS THE UPPER HAND" by Josh Woodward. Free download: http://joshwoodward.com/

Back in 2017, we recorded recaps of season 1 of Riverdale. In this one, we discussed issues like: Is the Man-Thing going to have a Riverdale cameo? How many times can the word 'incest' be said in a single episode of network TV? What celebrities with the initials 'HL' might be guilty ... of murder??? Who's a bigger jerk: Principal Weatherbee or Sheriff Keller? To hear our takes on these questions and others, listen to this week's episode of 'Pop's Choklit Shoppe Goes The Weasel', in which Carrie and Jake discuss Riverdale Chapter 12: Anatomy of a Murder. The theme song is "JOSIE HAS THE UPPER HAND" by Josh Woodward. Free download: http://joshwoodward.com/

If you ever wanted to hear us say 'Toledo' in the most dejected way possible, today's episode of 'Riverdale Song' is for you! In this episode, recorded in 2017, Carrie and Jake recap Riverdale Chapter Eleven: To Riverdale and Back Again, discuss the joys of being the worst, and engage in a rare bit of self-censorship. How bad is Archie on a scale of a nice dinner to a zombie apocalypse? Tune in to find out! The theme song is "JOSIE HAS THE UPPER HAND" by Josh Woodward. Free download: http://joshwoodward.com/

Back in 2017, the Bad Decision Dinosaur was particularly busy in Riverdale Chapter 10: The Lost Weekend, and Carrie decided to stage a friendtervention with her cohost Jake about it. What is Betty's least favorite word? Can Archie manage to throw a worse party than the Blossoms? Why does Jughead make our hearts hurt? Just how great is the democratic process? Old secrets are revealed, and new secrets made up, in this week's episode of 'Cheryl-y You're Joking', in which we learn that you can take a snake out of the South Side, but you can't make it drink. The theme song is "JOSIE HAS THE UPPER HAND" by Josh Woodward. Free download: http://joshwoodward.com/

Back in 2017, Carrie and Jake drank gutter water and watched the Riverdale episode that IMDB users claim is the worst of the season. We didn't hate it, though. Also, Jake reads some poetry, Carrie gets a little pervy about Jughead and Cheryl, and Jake texts Carrie about Val. All this, and more, in this week's episode of 'Riverdale Phoenix', in which Carrie and Jake discuss Riverdale Chapter 9: La Grande Illusion. The theme song is "JOSIE HAS THE UPPER HAND" by Josh Woodward. Free download: http://joshwoodward.com/

In this episode, Carrie and Jake talk about Kendare Blake's 2021 YA horror novel 'All These Bodies', a sort of true crime podcast in the form of a period piece YA novel. It's unreliable narrators all the way down! Spoilers abound, so we recommend reading the book before listening, if you're interested in a spooky, atmospheric novel that raises more questions than it answers. Back in 2017, Carrie and Jake had a lot of questions on their minds: Can four kids with a toolbox build a mall? What if they're bruiser studs? Also, what are the worst gifts to bring to a baby shower? What is Jake's secret history with Luke Perry? Which is better, making out or being a detective? We delved into all of this, and oh so much more, in this week's episode of 'Denial Ain't Just A Riverdale In Egypt', in which we discussed Riverdale Chapter 8: The Outsiders. The theme song is "JOSIE HAS THE UPPER HAND" by Josh Woodward. Free download: http://joshwoodward.com/ This episode contains an excerpt from a song by Dürty Folk, and a reference to Dinosaur Comics. I think I should also note that this episode of Riverdale has a subplot involving abortion, which we do talk about a fair amount. Welcome to our comedy podcast!

This week, Jake and Carrie suffer in exquisite ecstasy as they discuss 'The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Chapter 8: The Burial'. Is Sabrina playing 'The Secret of Monkey Island' poorly? Is bringing back the dead, by and large, a no-no? Can an episode of TV centered on a deadly mining disaster also be super horny? Listen to the episode to find out! We'd love to hear from you! This episode includes a clip from the Outside Xtra youtube channel's playthrough of the 90s FMV game 'Goosebumps: Escape from Horrorland', a fun video of a nearly incomprehensibly goofy video games. For this episode, Carrie and Jake barely scratch the surface of Tracy Deonn's debut novel 'Legendborn'. What a book! We both loved this YA tale of wizards, knights, and being a Black student at UNC-Chapel Hill. Spoilers abound, so we recommend reading the book before listening! If you have any comments or suggestions, join us on our Goodreads page at https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/188869-love-ya-like-crazy, or tweet to us at https://twitter.com/loveYApod, or email us at podcast at loveYAlikecrazy.com. We'd love to hear from you! This episode contains a short audio clip from a 25 June 2021 protest held at UNC-Chapel Hill. Thanks to Shaenon K. Who have two thumbs and an opinion about Stephanie Perkins's new YA horror novel, 'The Woods Are Always Watching'? Jake and Carrie do! Welcome to a new HOT TAKE SPECIAL, in which Jake speculates that Jon Arbuckle (of Garfield fame)'s old roommate was a serial killer, and Carrie points out a downside to stickshifts that many might overlook. The episode (and the book) has some kind of graphic descriptions of body trauma, so be aware of that. Also we definitely describe the plot in some detail. Spoilers ahoy! Back in 2017, Carrie and Jake went for a walk in the Eversgreen Forest, critiqued Veronica's negotiating techniques, explored a haunted attic, and went shopping on Glamazon. Join them in their travels on this week's episode of 'Living In A Van Down By The Riverdale', in which Love YA Like Crazy's Carrie and Jake discuss Riverdale Chapter 7: In A Lonely Place. The theme song is "JOSIE HAS THE UPPER HAND" by Josh Woodward. Free download: http://joshwoodward.com/

This episode, Jake and Carrie discuss 'The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Chapter 7: Feast of Feasts'. Carrie has the Shinning! Jake connects ex-GW Bush scriptwriter and current Never Trumper David Frum to satanic rituals! There's a subplot we actually kind of like! And some we're not as fond of. Give it a listen and see what you think! If you have any comments or suggestions, tweet to us at https://twitter.com/loveYApod, or email us at podcast at loveYAlikecrazy.com. In this episode, we reference a tweet by Mara Wilson and an essay by philosopher John Holbo. (Incidentally, while putting together these show notes, I found out that Holbo had tweeted out some updates regarding that essay a couple of years ago.) This episode includes a clip from the Simpsons episode 'Treehouse of Horror V', the overture from the movie 'Cannibal: The Musical', and a brief portion of the Velvet Underground song 'Venus in Furs'.
