Why Non Toxic Beauty Products Matter When It Comes To Our Hormone Health with Mindy Mackenzie EP228
2024/01/23
Did you know that the products you're using on your body can be wreaking havoc on your hormones? While it’s hard to believe that conventional beauty companies would ever include toxic ingredients in their products, the fact is that they do—it’s still common practice and perfectly legal. To give you an idea of where we are, consider that there are 11 cosmetic ingredients currently banned by the FDA, while in the EU, over 1,300 ingredients are banned. Companies operating in the US face much less stringent regulations than companies operating in the EU do, so US companies continue to pack the products that we use every day (mascara, face wash, conditioner, make up and more) with potentially harmful ingredients that can include known carcinogens, irritants, and endocrine disruptors. On today's episode Cody has invited special guest and expert on clean beauty, Mindy Mackenzie. Mindy currently serves as CEO of Beautycounter, a mission-driven clean beauty company. Prior to Beautycounter, she was Partner & Chief Performance Officer for The Carlyle Group, a global investment firm with over $382 billion in assets. Prior to joining Carlyle in 2017, Ms. Mackenzie was founder and principal of her own firm focused on advising CEOs and thriving leaders on how to unlock and accelerate performance. In addition to serving as Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Company, she served as global head of strategy, M&A and human resources at liquor giant Jim Beam, and earlier in her career lived and worked internationally for Campbell Soup Company and Walmart Stores, Inc. in senior human capital leadership roles. Ms. Mackenzie is the author of the 2016 WSJ bestseller The Courage Solution: The Power of Truth Telling With Your Boss, Peers, and Team. Ms. Mackenzei currently serves as a director on the board of public telecommunications company CommScope (COMM) and privately held clean skincare and cosmetics brand Beautycounter. Its Hertime Live: Routine Over Resolution EP227
2024/01/16
Join Cody and Jess as they welcome guests Kass and Emily of "Little Bit's of Awesome" Podcast...and a LIVE studio audience! So fun! Together, they take questions from you, and from the live audience members to discuss how to set ourselves up for success in reaching our most important goals this year by focusing on our routines rather than just resolutions. The questions were amazing and the answers were fun and inspiring. As you know, the biggest benefit of focusing on creating routines and healthy habits, instead of simply setting resolutions, is that habits become automatic once they're practiced enough. But, in this episode these ladies take us  beyond the typical tips. They break it down for us on how to really determine what goals matter most to us, how to feel our why and they share what the true secret sauce is to staying motivated all the way to the end goal. We love our guests!: Kass Martin and Emily Engemann are sisters and best friends who have made a decision to live life to the fullest and they love helping others do the same! They are wives, moms, fitness instructors, entrepreneurs, podcasters, friends and professional deal finders. They love connecting with others. People are their passion! Their education is from the school of hard knocks, they have a colorful upbringing and they (just like you I’m sure) have been through the ringer of life but…they know that happiness is up to them. So they wake up each day choosing happiness. Doing their best and then choosing it again and again. 2024/01/09
Breast implant illness is starting to gain attention in the medical community. Breast implant illness (BII) is the term used to describe symptoms associated with breast implants and can range from joint pain, skin rashes, hair loss, and headaches to chronic fatigue, anxiety, neurological issues, brain fog and hormone imbalance.  In this episode, Cody shares about her own personal story about Breast Implant Illness and her explant surgery a year ago. She has invited the surgeon that she leaned on to guide her on how to prepare to have her breast implants removed and how to set herself up for success after the surgery. His name is Dr. Rob. Robert Whitfield "Dr. Rob" is known as the Breast Implant Expert". He has been a plastic surgeon for 26 years and board-certified for over 16 years. He specializes in Breast Implant Illness (BII), breast implant removal surgery and advanced cosmetic procedures.  In addition to his exceptional work as a surgeon, Dr. Rob is a sought-after provider for his Breast Implant Illness Program (HARP). The protocols of HARP help to reduce systemic inflammation and assist patients who are both preparing or recovering from surgery. Dr. Rob's skills dovetail into a perfect balance of art and science and provide hope to scores of women looking to restore their health after BII. Throughout the episode, Cody and Dr. Whitfield dive into how Breast Implant Illness starts in the body, and how it is first detected. They highlight how important it is to take a look into one's own genetics first before making any decision of having implants, especially if the person's genes does not permit it to detoxify huge amounts of toxins, which was the case for Cody. Some of the topics they discuss are: How foreign bodies (implants of any kind) trigger inflammationThings that Make the Body Capable of Handling InflammationHormonal metabolism and estrogen dominanceWays Implants Get ContaminatedExplant Procedures, and why they are neededMinimizing the Inflammatory State during preparation and the explant operation properConnect with Dr. Robert Whitfield: www.BreastImplantIllnessExpert.com Holistic Accelerated Recovery Program @breastimplantillnessexpert on Instagram Did you learn something new today? How To Fix The Hormones That Control Your Weight EP222
2023/12/05
Nothing is more frustrating than making lifestyle changes to support your health and lose a little weight, only to find that nothing changes despite your efforts. Everywhere you look, new fad diets, shots or workout programs seem to bring about dramatic transformations. So why don't they work for you? It may be related to a hormone imbalance. On today's episode, Cody is going to talk about how to fix the hormones that control your weight. The dirty little secret of the billion-dollar weight loss industry is that despite what you've heard, eating less and moving more isn't always the key to weight loss success. And a lot of the time, the more you try to restrict or over-exercise, the worse things can get. While it’s true that some people’s weight loss does require a caloric deficit, achieving it is much easier said than done, especially when hormones are out of balance. If this sounds familiar, it's time to look at the possibility that a hormonal imbalance is contributing to your weight loss resistance. And it is certainly time for the arm chair (or weight bench) medical experts to calm down with their shame and blame tactics because when it comes to women’s metabolic health and body composition—hormones are everything.
