Former President Trump Wins Big In South Carolina As Nikki Haley Vows To Continue Campaign
2024/02/26
Former President Trump scored a decisive victory over former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in her home state's primary this weekend. Despite the 20-point loss, Haley has vowed to continue her campaign against President Trump, citing the need for younger leadership in government. This while the Senate must conduct the impeachment trial of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and the House Oversight Committee continues its ongoing investigation into the Biden family. South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC-1) joins the Rundown to discuss why she believes it is time for the GOP to unite behind former President Trump, where she sees the Biden investigation heading, and talks about the challenges Republicans face with such a narrow House majority.  Surveys estimate that nearly 77 million Americans have a criminal record. Essentially, 1 in every 3 adults has experienced an arrest, conviction, or incarceration. Once folks have served their time and are released, the barriers to re-entering society, like gaining steady employment or affordable housing, can prove extremely difficult. In many states, their criminal record even disqualifies individuals from many opportunities. Vice President at Prison Fellowship Kate Trammell says that there are about 44,000 restrictive federal laws that punish people who have served prison sentences. On the podcast, she explains how reforming these laws will lead to lower crime and better criminal rehabilitation. Plus, commentary from Co-Host of The Five, and Democratic Strategist Jessica Tarlov.  (Image: Andrew Harnik Via AP) Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

From Washington: War On Ukraine Enters Third Year
2024/02/25
Saturday, February 24th marked two years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains determined to defeat Russia and continues to request aid and resources from the U.S., urging that a lack of support from President Biden could lead to dire consequences for his country. Though the President announced the U.S. would be implementing more than 500 new sanctions against Russia on Friday, no aid can be sent to Ukraine until a foreign aid package can successfully pass through Congress, which has proven to be a challenge. National security expert Rebecca Grant explains the state of the region two years on. Later, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S. Oksana Markarova discusses the important U.S.-Ukraine relationship. The House has voted to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, the first time a member of the President's cabinet has faced an impeachment since the 1870s. Republican lawmakers are preparing to hold a full Senate trial holding the Biden administration responsible for the crisis at the Southern Border. However, many Washington insiders believe the Senate will likely acquit Secretary Mayorkas. FOX News Senior Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram explains how a Senate impeachment trial differs from a presidential one and the political implications it brings for both parties involved. Legal Fights, Student Debt, And Frozen Embryos
2024/02/23

The Evolving Border Crisis
2024/02/21
Lawmakers in Washington are still concerned about the record number of illegal migrants entering the United States through the southern border. However, there has been a shift at the border, with migrants now entering less via Texas and more illegal crossings instead via Arizona and California. Yet, that's not the only big change; Chinese migrants are now the fastest-growing group entering the United States from Mexico. FOX News Correspondent Griff Jenkins joins the Rundown to discuss what he's seen at the border, national security concerns about the increasing number of illegal Chinese migrants, and his new FOX Nation special, "24/7: Border Crisis." As crime continues to sweep across the nation, the number of police officers on the streets enforcing our laws has sharply declined. In Louisiana, Governor Landry has declared a state of emergency over the lack of officers amid severely lagging recruitment. Police departments have even had to lower recruitment standards in some cases to better drum up interest in donning the badge, but worries over safety and reputation have potential officers hesitant to join. Retired NYPD Inspector and FOX News contributor Paul Mauro joins the podcast to discuss what’s causing this officer shortage, why lowering recruitment standards should concern citizens, and solutions to this crisis. Good review of current major stories
I like the longer (medium) format for these major stories. An expansion of these important topics without being too expansive.
