148. Establishing a Weekly Creative Schedule. A Game-Changer for Artists!
2022/08/24
Life sure is hectic, isn’t it?? Between work, hobbies, children, and all of the other aspects that make up life as a whole, it can be hard to maintain consistency, clarity, and structure. In this podcast episode, you will hear how I schedule my week as an artist, business owner, and parent. The goal here is to give you some simple tips and ideas that you can incorporate into your daily, weekly, and monthly routines to make staying on top of your many tasks as easy as possible. This routine reflects my current focus on creating art classes, but the ideas can be applied to any creative pursuit. Some key points that we are going to focus on in our discussion today will be: Choosing projects that are joyful for you but also have some deadlines. Committing to a class, challenge, or group show that creatively excites you is a great way to put this into action. Planning, planning, planning! Figuring out a detailed, yet somewhat flexible, daily, weekly and monthly plan should make your days flow much smoother. When you have an idea of what each day is going to look like, it makes it easier to maintain a balance between work and personal tasks. Setting a weekly routine will be a game-changer! But what can a productive weekly schedule for an artist/business owner/parent look like? Clear purpose, boundaries, and prioritization are going to be crucial takeaways to listen for in our discussion as well. If you want to get back on track and hear some beneficial tips to make your daily life a bit easier to manage, make sure to listen to the podcast episode here! Hope you enjoy! 147. Social Media Struggles: Is Instagram Still the Best App for Artists?
2022/08/10
Instagram: the O.G. photo-sharing social media platform. It was once so beloved by artists, photographers, and day-to-day photo sharers. But now, is it still considered the best social media platform for artists? We are going to dive deep into whether or not that is still the case, or if artists (and other creatives) should be turning towards other platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, or maybe even the app that’s once again in the spotlight—Vero. Figuring out which place to share your creations and content with the world can be challenging. So in today’s episode, we are going to compare a handful of the options that are available. A few things to consider while listening as well as when you are making platform decisions: Determining which platform to invest time in, depends on a number of factors. What is your purpose for being on the app? Where is your community or audience? Which apps do you enjoy being on and are willing to invest time in? Which app plays to your strengths? 146. Making Art Fun Again + Podcast Changes
2021/12/08
I’ve been quiet on social media lately but I have been working on something really important - making art fun again! The studio has had a makeover, new art supplies have been ordered and ALL my sketchbooks are out!! Plus, Richie and I have been having some BIG ol' chats about the future direction of the podcast and art biz in general. With a new year coming, it’s time for a change. In this week’s episode, we look back on the last year and talk about the changes we are making to bring more creativity and fun into our lives as we head into 2022. This includes a change in the way that we approach the podcast. As it’s the last episode of the year, we also want to thank you for your support and wish you a happy festive season! 145. Juggling Art, Business and Family (Q&A Session)
2021/12/01
This week, Richie and I answer your questions. You’ll hear personal stories including how we met, whether we always wanted children and what’s been the hardest part of our journey so far. We also share business tips on areas such as Facebook advertising and getting started with teaching. One thing you’ll notice is that things are always changing. Being a creative couple is a juggling act that requires plenty of communication and adjustment! There are times when we focus on creative work and feel like we are not being good parents and then there are times when we are very hands-on with our family but lack creative purpose. It’s not all doom and gloom though! We chat about how we have learned to deal with this ebb and flow and what we are loving in this current phase. We hope that the episode is informative and encouraging!
