HARRY'S HOUSE
2022/05/31
In episode 27, hosts Key (he/they) and Gray (he/him) review Harry’s most anticipated release to date - Harry’s House!!  They begin by listing off everything that’s been going on promotion-wise (boy, is it a lot!!) (3:50). Then, they move into the discussion of the NEW ALBUM (!!!) by talking about their expectations (6:12) and giving a first listen review (13:17). Following this, Key and Gray move through the track list in order: Music for a Sushi Restaurant (26:14), Late Night Talking (33:58), Grapejuice (43:08), As it Was (53:44), Daylight (57:53), Little Freak (1:07:37), Matilda (1:16:29), Cinema (1:23:10), Daydreaming (1:34:00), Keep Driving (1:35:41), Satellite (1:48:06), Boyfriends (1:52:58), and Love of My Life (2:01:27). Then, they talk about the album’s structure and themes (2:07:17) as well as its potential legacy and impact (2:20:40). A lot to unpack here, to say the least!!!  They conclude with some recommendations for some non-album related media they’ve been enjoying, including the new season of Stranger Things. Better Homes and Gardens, Coachella, and More!
2022/05/02
In episode 26, hosts Key (he/they) and Gray (he/him) cover the various Harry Styles happenings from April! They begin by discussing smaller pieces of news, including new tour and festival dates in Australia, NZ, and the UK; Harry’s chart positions; the DWD trailer at Cinemacon; and the leaked studio version of Medicine (3:08).  Then, they move into the discussion of the newly-released (and extremely yellow) Harry’s House tracklist (12:50). Key and Gray in their excitement have claimed a few! Following this, Key and Gray discuss Harry’s new profile in Better Homes and Gardens magazine! They first discuss the photos by our old friend Tim Walker (22:20) before moving into a conversation about the content of the interview, written by Lou Stoppard (27:05). (P.S. - there’s a little bit of discourse ahead regarding the internet’s reaction to the profile which you can avoid by skipping to 56:38).   Next, they cover Coachella night one (58:57) and night two (1:19:09). Listen to hear Key flex that he’s known the meanings of the rabbits all along. Finally, they round out the discussion with some non-Harry things that have brought them joy over the past week, including Shania Twain’s “Come on Over” and the film Everything Everywhere All at Once (1:32:57).   Email us at weblameharrystyles@gmail.com  Follow us on twitter @harrystylespod  Follow us on tumblr harrystylespod.tumblr.com    Sources  https://www.bhg.com/better-homes-and-garden-magazine/harry-styles/  https://www.popsugar.com/fashion/harry-styles-gucci-jumpsuit-coachella-48794593   https://www.nme.com/reviews/live/harry-styles-live-coachella-2022-review-3205958

AS IT WAS
2022/04/12
In episode 25 hosts Key (he/they) and Gray (he/him) gleefully dive into the long awaited As it Was song and music video!   After giving their first impressions on the video and song (4:37) Key and Gray begin an in-depth lyrical analysis of As it Was. (14:30) Is it about romance? The pandemic? Fame? You decide! Gray and Key wrap up the discussion of the song itself by analyzing its production, instrumentation, and genre (48:45). Listen to hear their glee over the fact that Harry’s learned to play the tubular bells, because of course he has.  They then move on to a conversation about the music video, starting with a recap of everything that happens in it (59:50) and a brief overview of its directing team. Then, they talk about the music video’s location and set, feat. appearances by the Barbican Center, the South London Gallery, and the Berthold Lubetkin Penguin Pool (1:05:35). Following this, they focus on Arturo Obegero’s bespoke red and blue jumpsuits (1:18:58) and Yoann Bourgeois’ choreography (1:29:16). Can either Key or Gray manage to pronounce “Celui Qui Tombe” correctly?  Let's just say neither of them are fluent in French! They round out the discussion with some speculation about what the new single might mean for the Harry’s House era and end the show with a chat about some non-Harry things that have brought them joy over the week (1:36:12).   Source  As it Was source document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lDWpjJXlBjdQvexqfKG_eEaPUudbnU8vv-0XJKPVohw/edit?usp=sharing

You are Home & Harry’s House announcement!!
2022/03/29
In episode 24 hosts Key (he/they) and Gray (he/him) dive into analysis of the first half of the You are Home campaign, including the reveal of the cover of his third album: Harry’s House (out May 20)! After briefly touching on the news, including mentions of a new music video, the release of Shroom Bloom, his feature at the V&A, and the My Policeman leak (5:58), they get into a discussion about the You Are Home campaign and album announcement (11:55). Key and Gray first give an overview of the timeline of the You are Home campaign, including discussions of the art created by the wonderful Maggie Cowles. Who at We Blame Harry Styles believed the campaign was legit first? Hint: it’s exactly the clown you’d expect. They then move on to a conversation about the objects behind the doors (and their accompanying tweets), including a truly brave admission by Gray about his lack of readiness to sexualize grapes. Following this, they focus on Harry’s Wednesday release - the Harry’s House announcement! (38:50) Listen to hear them discuss the cover in the context of 70s singer-songwriter aesthetics, including references to Fleetwood Mac and Documentary Now’s “Original Cast Album: Co-Op!” They round out the discussion with a conversation about the Harry’s House trailer (57:16), feat. a potential hidden tune when the clip is played backwards! Harry Styles in iCarly and One Direction: This is Us
2021/07/30
In episode 16, hosts Key (he/they) and Gray (he/him) are joined by a very special guest and their friend Ava (she/her) in semi-seriously analyzing the first two entries in Harry Styles’ film oeuvre - the iCarly episode iGo One Direction and the documentary One Direction: This is Us. After Ava shares her fandom origin story they go over the news, including the shifted Love on Tour dates (9:45) and the prospect of new music, and a Harry Lambert photo of thongs (a peak at a new fashion era? Literally just Harry Lambert’s laundry? You decide- (17:05)). Following this clownery, they move into the main discussion about the first of two very important entries in Harry’s filmography: One Direction’s brief stint on the tv show iCarly (22:59). Ava takes the reins, giving a totally serious description of the plot (26:10) and provides some controversial takes such as “this episode is actually good” before the rapscallion crew of gays move into the true meat of the episode’s analysis (30:20), including the very serious question - how might this episode have affected Christopher Nolan’s choice to cast Harry in Dunkirk? They then move on to what can charitably be called an analysis of One Direction: This is Us (43:56). First, they discuss the background of the film - what, exactly, it is, and who made it. How does it compare to other band docs? Does it succeed at what it’s trying to do? What does it leave out? How does it portray Harry specifically (1:12:27) Then, they discuss notable parts of the film (1:18:34), including the questions - so, they didn’t actually go camping, right? Is This is Us on Martin Scorsese’s IMDB page? And crucially: who farted in that one scene on the tour bus? After giving their closing thoughts (1:31:40), they read some fun Letterboxd reviews of the film (1:37:35). Finally, Key, Gray, and Ava talk about some things that have brought them joy over the week (1:44:12), including a reference to Al Pacino as “meow meow” which some may describe as “questionable.” Email us at weblameharrystyles@gmail.com Follow us on twitter @harrystylespod Follow us on tumblr harrystylespod.tumblr.com
