As we witness the machinery of political and media institutions squarely against the Palestinians, and our own friends and colleagues consuming and parroting the most harmful of propaganda, how do we assure ourselves that we will indeed prevail against it all insha'Allah.

Palestine is being pulverized while the world watches. Images of our brothers and sisters, most of them children, are flooding our circles, and though we’re sharing them incessantly amidst censorship, pushback, and lies, it feels like shouting into a void. There is collective pain in our global ummah on many levels. How do we deal with the trauma we are witnessing through our screens? How do we cope with feelings of powerlessness, despair, and anguish? How do we cope with the loss of loved ones due to genocide? How can we be courageous and continue to support and lend voice to the oppressed even when the whole world is against us? How can we speak truth to power within our means, especially in the face of threats to our livelihood? Dehumanization. Brutalization. Victim-blaming. From the IOF to police brutality, our oppression is undoubtedly connected and undoubtedly devastating. But the outpouring of protests around the world uplift us like nothing else can. In the hundreds of thousands, in cities across the globe, people have been calling on the world to recognize and rectify the tragedy unfolding in Gaza. This collective courage moves mountains. Now is the moment to fulfill our duty as Muslims and stand for justice. Be bold and beneficial, helpful and thoughtful. Because our ummah, united, will never be defeated.

Israel just bombed a hospital into non-existence. Doctors, nurses, infants, orphans, refugees—at least 800 innocents, gone from this world in an instant. But not dead. They are in the Merciful Hands of Allah, receiving the rank and blessings of honored martyrs. They’ve been chosen to be among His shuhada’, and we’ve been chosen to speak out against the ongoing massacre of the Gazan people. Now is the moment for each of us to stand up to an uncaring world and make them see the brutality and horror wrought by Israel’s agenda of genocide against the Palestinian people.

Rage. Anger. Hurt. The horrific images, the appalling injustices, and the exposure to propaganda have taken us on an emotional roller coaster. There is a genocide happening before our very eyes, and yet the media is working in full force to uphold lies. We’re waging a battle on multiple fronts: infuriated at the Zionist atrocities and misinformation campaign, enraged at the lack of support for our brothers and sisters, and furious at the feeling of being robbed of a voice. Advocacy is exhausting. It demands your energy, passion, and unrelenting focus. It requires you to forgo daily priorities and neglect yourself in pursuit of a greater good. And it’s worth it, because the Palestinian people deserve peace and justice. But in the middle of these moments of crisis, it’s crucial to take care of yourself and maintain extra acts of ‘ibadah. In a dunya filled with suffering and injustice, it’s only in the remembrance of Allah that your heart will find rest.

Thousands gathered at the national mall between White House and Capitol Hill for Jummah followed by a march. You are alive in this moment of Palestinian catastrophe. You are witnessing a genocide of Gaza. With that witnessing comes a great responsibility.

The best thing you can do for Palestine right now is to pray, and the best du'a you can make is one that is sincere and heartfelt. But when you've exhausted your own words, turn to the Qur'an and Sunnah. Each is full of resonant du'as that believers have echoed for centuries in their own moments of crisis. As Gaza continues to burn, keep these du’as frequent on your tongue, just as you keep the martyrs and the suffering women, men, and children of the Holy Land in your heart.
