How To Run A Profitable Local Business From Anywhere In The World w/ Neel Parekh
Neil Parekh 0:00
A lot of people think like, hey, because the business is a lifestyle business. I'm not going to grow that fast. I might not make a lot of money, but it's going to be more lifestyle focused. They're not mutually exclusive. You can have a very large business and be location independent and have a lifestyle focus.
Jason Moore 0:14
That was a clip from our wonderful guest today, Neil Parekh, who helps people run their local businesses completely, remotely and travel the world. And in fact, he did that for himself. He quit his corporate job traveled to 35 countries over five years and built a local location dependent. Yes, you heard that right. Dependent business that generated over $10 million in sales, all while living the nomad lifestyle. And although it may sound counterintuitive to some, Neil makes a strong case for starting a local business and making it location independent. How do you do that? Well, that is a big topic. In today's interview, Neil built up his company made this which is a work from anywhere cleaning franchise focused on vacation rentals. And he did it all while he was backpacking and traveling and hostels and doing that whole thing. In fact, he doubled his business in that first year and he talks about that he gets into a ton of lessons around building a location dependent location independent business, including why it's easier to compete on the local level and why you should consider starting or growing a local business. His two big criteria for choosing a successful local business that can be run remotely, why having the mentality of making your business remote is so critical how we overcame some of the challenges around the things that are required of him to be in person we get Neil's take on following your passion versus starting a business based on an opportunity or potential income, and play
Living Your Best Life Abroad, Finding A Cultural Personality Match and Moving To France with Allison Grant Lounes from Franceformation
Allison Grant Lounes 0:00
There's certain personality traits or like, ways of being that are sort of more closely aligned to what is sort of culturally normal in France, like being introverted and being like a private person. And like in France, there's like a really strong intellectual tradition of being philosophical and studying history and stuff and appreciating the arts and appreciating, you know, beauty and finer things and focusing on, you know, certain aspects of life. And the people that I think the Americans that I think tend to move to France are the ones who really have a strong affinity for a lot of those things as well. That
Jason Moore 0:42
was a clip from my interview today with Alison grant lunettes, who is a relocation expert that specializes in helping people move to France permanently or temporarily. Now, you could almost divide this conversation into two different buckets. Because we do get into the practical aspects of moving to France, we talk a bit about visas, and some of the areas to consider. But there is a much bigger overarching conversation going on here around moving abroad in general. So if you're somebody who is considering moving abroad, maybe lives
Lessons From Running Every Street In Glasgow, Scotland w/ Michael Shanks
Michael Shanks 0:00
You can live in a place and think you knew it, but actually realize you really don't know it at all. Because you may be driven through an area or you've got the train through an area. But that doesn't mean the same as actually being in it.
Jason Moore 0:11
That was a clip from my guest today, Michael shanks. I love that Scottish accent and how did he get to know his home city of Glasgow? Well, he ran every single street, all of Glasgow 6110 streets, he ran them, which was an incredible quest, and a lot of lessons coming from this experience, you'll hear the inspiration behind his quest, how it all started, and why he did it. What surprised him about his home city of Glasgow and some of the most interesting parts of his mission, the funny thing that happened when his run ended, how this experience changed his life, and why it's something we can all do. And this is also a reminder for me about the things we can accomplish in our spare time, even with a full time job or a full time career. Michael is a teacher, and he did this in his spare time. So get ready to pull out some

Although I was traveling alone, I never really felt lonely. I didn't feel like I was, you know, it was me against the world. It was more kind of me with the world kind of pushing me forward. And that was a really, really positive experience.

Creating A Life Abroad + Expert Remote Work Advice w/ Chase Warrington
Chase Warrington 0:00
I love how imposter syndrome has been brought to the surface these days. And it's not something that's like hidden in the more you talk to hyper successful people or people who are just like social media stars, or have, you know, incredible podcasts or whatever it is, and you look to them from the outside, and then you have a deeper conversation, you're like, Oh, good, we're all imposters, we don't know what the hell we're doing. It's not as simple as just flipping a switch and saying, Okay, we just take all these things that we've been doing in the office, and we and we migrate them to a remote setting, give everybody a laptop and a Zoom account, and boom, we're good, right? It just unfortunately, it doesn't work well that way.
Jason Moore 0:39
That was a clip from my interview today with Chase Warrington, who is an American expat living in Spain with his wife, Alison, and their dog coda, who also has a passport. And his travels have been sustained by his remote work career. So two big topics really emerge from this interview. One is that idea of creating a life abroad, what that's like and how you can do it. And secondly, a focus on remote work.

How To Protect Yourself Against Scams, Identity Theft, and Fraud While Traveling w/ Adam Levin
Adam Levin 0:00
I mean Clark Kent does not advertise that he's Superman and Bruce Wayne doesn't have a Bruce Wayne nametag on his Batman outfit. But you have to understand that when you use things that people can easily learn about you by going online, that's the same thing as wearing a nametag or doing something and skywriting. The thing about technology that which makes us powerful makes us vulnerable.
Jason Moore 0:24
Indeed, technology does make us vulnerable, especially as we roam the planet. That is why today, I've got a nationally recognized expert on cybersecurity, privacy, identity theft, fraud and personal finance, here to help you out to give us the one on one and more on how we can stay safe and protect ourselves from all of these things when we're out on the road and at home. So excited to bring you this value packed interview with Adam Levin, who you just heard at the top of the show.
A Creative Guide To Travel Journaling w/ Lavinia Spalding
Lavinia Spalding 0:00
that feeling of being anchored is really nice when we're traveling. I mean, traveling can be really disorienting it can be dysregulated. And to just sit with your journal with especially a handwritten journal, and reflect and figure out why the things that you've been doing have meaning. It's such a gateway to self discovery and

How To Solve Big Problems, Making An Impact, Growing Up Around The World w/ Chesca Colloredo-Mansfeld from Miracle Feet
Chesca Colloredo-Mansfeld 0:00
It's very easy to be intimidated and to think that you don't have the set of skills that you might need to solve a problem. I think what I was fortunate to do was to have the confidence to just say, You know what, nobody else is doing this. And the worst thing that happens is that I'm not successful, but at least I can try. So I mean, I think having confidence that doing something is better than doing nothing, even if you don't have exactly the skill set that you wish you had.

RV´ing Across America: A Quest To Visit All 50 States w/ Alyssa Padgett
Alyssa Padgett 0:00
And we lose each other. And we're just like, You know what? This is the hardest moment of our trip. We don't have money. We don't have a fridge like this RV is already broken down multiple times while we've been traveling. We have a choice to make.
Jason Moore 0:15
That was a clip from my interview today with Alyssa Padgett, who was sharing a pivotal, low moment in their journey, and you're gonna hear how this defining moment and the decision they made, led not only to them building their life of travel, but to meeting a lot of their best friends. And this moment happens during the trip that kickstarted there, shall we say unconventional lifestyle back in 2014. Alisa convinced her husband Heath take her to all 50 states for their honeymoon and they did it on an RV and during that trip, they ended up directing, producing and starring in a documentary film about that 50 state honeymoon, where Heath was working a different hourly job in each state. It's called hourly America. And they ended up being featured on CBS, CNN, Fox, all these major publications.
Living The Off Beat Life w/ Debbie Arcangeles
Debbie Arcangeles 0:00
I've had a lot of fights with with the family with that. But I knew that I needed to make myself happy at the end and not just about making money. So that's another thing that really changed my life as well. A lot of people, especially in Western countries, like Europe and the United States, when you think about travel, you think about travel as like exciting. It's a you know, you're trying to find yourself and you're seeing all of these touristy destinations, and it's really fun. But for me, my first experience with travel was to literally leave a country and go to another one that I didn't know, for a new life.

Destination Bonanza w/ Chris Christensen
Jason Moore 0:00
What traveler doesn't love chatting about destinations? Right, and today, we have a destination bonanza for you. Although that's only one of the courses we're serving up. I do have my friend and fellow travel podcaster. Chris from the Amateur Traveler podcast. On the show, this guy's been to 64 un recognized countries in 82 countries and territories. And he's recorded over 700 podcasts, with experts on different destinations from all over the world. So a lot to pick his brain on. But you know, the destination piece of this show is just one course of this meal. Yes, we'll talk about Southern Africa and the national parks in California and some other places. But we're also going to serve up a course of travel lifestyle stuff, which I always love to learn from people that have traveled extensively. How have they done it? And what are some of those lessons we all can learn and take with us. And Chris has done a lot of his traveling with a full time job. So I do get his advice on maximizing your travels with a traditional job. He talks a bit about career breaks and what to consider. We discuss strategies for building an itinerary that matches your personality and travel lifestyle. Why to consider climbing down the corporate ladder? If you're on it, instead of up it, we have a little dialogue on what you should do if you're considering going to a place you've been versus a brand new place, which is always a fun question to ask travelers.
Adventures In Urban Exploration w/ Greg Abandoned
Greg Abandoned 0:00
urbex the deal about urbex is that you go to places that you cannot go, the public cannot go, you're not allowed to go. When it's security, closed gate dogs, those are the type of places I read like to go. I, on a weekly basis, talk to passionate people who, because of this hobby have super unique experiences, because you meet people along the way. There's always so many different stories, we really like to preserve those places. I must say this took this took everything I had. And, and when I woke up there, I was crying when I saw them. Because this felt like the the sense of achievement to to do this was was simply insane. Those are

Richard Hammond 0:00
It's great to go away and have a great time. Just how can I do that just doesn't quite have the same kind of negative impact on the place I'm visiting on the atmosphere on carbon emissions. You know, there are many ways that you can travel now that reduce that and also positively impact on the place as a sort of net positive.

From Wall Street To Nepal, Life Changing Moments, And What It Means To Have Enough w/ James C. Hopkins
James C. Hopkins 0:00
I went off to India for three months, while still having the corner office on corner 15k Street. And at one point, my girlfriend who was also a kind of corporate person is here and I said, well, maybe there's something more and how much is enough? How much is enough? How much do you have to have to consider yourself happy? And maybe we should just call it enough and leave. As we were walking out, a guy caught up to me. And he was actually a Western guy who teaches at Boston College, who's also a Tibetan lama. And he, and he said to me, Hey, you know, with his finger pointing me, Hey, you don't get it. And I said, I don't know what. And he said, You don't understand what's happening. If you have some kind of skill, you're supposed to use that skill to help other people.
Jason Moore 0:55
That was my guest today, James C. Hopkins in 2004.
Live Life Now! (w/ Jeff Jenkins from Chubby Diaries)
Jeff Jenkins 0:00
You have permission to dream again, you have permission to write these big, audacious goals and dreams, and believe that they can actually happen for you. Our mission is to redefine what it looks like to travel. It just seems like the image of travel always marginalizes a group of people, which is plus sized people in a way, where all you see on advertisement stuff, as you lose some straight body fit person like, that's, that's what it is. And so we wanted to change that narrative. I'm not here to promote obesity. I'm here to promote people to live life now.
Jason Moore 0:37
That was a clip from my interview today with Jeff Jenkins, who runs chubby diaries.com, an online community for plus size travelers who are passionate about seeing the world
Beauty Around The World w/ Yari Coello
Yari Coello 0:00
I also think beauty is not just one thing, and the beauty industry has been very dominated by a certain look a certain feel. And I think that's a bit of a shame because it really is diverse. You know what people do around the world, different skin tones, different hair textures, different body shapes and different rituals.
Jason Moore 0:19
That was today's guests. Yari Coelho, who was kind enough to stop by the show, and you'll hear the funny story behind how we met in person late at the end of last year, and how she kickstarted her life abroad and her life of travel with almost no money and the small steps and the little bit of faith she took each month, month by month to create this life abroad.
Staying Healthy and Stress Free While Traveling w/ Kirsten Pontius
Kirsten Pontius 0:00
the stresses of travel and the stresses of living overseas are so deep and intertwined, that it's not a matter of getting a personal trainer or hiring a dietician to give you a meal plan or you know, some of the things that you think like, oh, I'm, maybe I'm overweight, or maybe I need to do this or that. They're just a lot of elements to the stresses that we have in this lifestyle that all play into each other. And without looking sort of at that big picture. And all those pieces you'll never see long term really get on the path that you want to be going on.
Jason Moore 0:36
That was a clip from our wonderful guest today. Kirsten, Pontius she helps expats and travelers use their lifestyle to their advantage to become the healthiest versions of themselves.
