Sierra Leone: From 'blood diamonds' to stones of hope?
2026/10/09
"Blood diamonds" became infamous for funding the brutal civil war in Sierra Leone. Beginning 25 years ago, the Kimberley Process aimed to put an end to this illegal trade. Accused of complicity in the conflict, the diamond industry has since sought to clean up its image, emphasising an ethical shift. But a quarter of a century on, have the former "blood diamonds" truly become synonymous with development? FRANCE 24's Sarah Sakho, Simon Martin and Saidu Bah report.
From 'Jungle' to jungles, migrants in Calais continue to dream of UK
2026/09/25
October 2026 marks 10 years since the Calais "Jungle" in northern France was dismantled by French police. The camp was home to thousands of migrants who wanted to cross the Channel and reach the UK. A decade on, migrants continue to dream of reaching British shores and the "Jungle" has been replaced by many smaller jungles scattered along the northern French coastline. FRANCE 24's Pauline Godart, Claire Paccalin and Mohamed Farhat report.
Revisited: Consequences of the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline sabotage are still being felt
2026/09/10
It is one of the most spectacular acts of sabotage committed since World War II. On the night of September 26, 2022, three of the four pipes of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines exploded on the seabed of the Baltic Sea. 465 thousand metric tons of methane were released into the atmosphere. The long-standing and strategic link between Russia and Germany severed for good.
Japan's controversial WWII heroes: How one kamikaze pilot escaped certain death
2026/08/28
Towards the end of World War II, as US troops advanced across the Pacific, Japan resorted to a desperate strategy: kamikaze attacks. Thousands of Japanese pilots, with an average age of just 21, were ordered to crash their explosive-laden planes into enemy ships. More than 3,800 pilots gave up their lives, killing over 7,000 allied naval personnel. Our reporter Mélodie Sforza met one of the last surviving former kamikaze pilots.
Port Arthur: The shooting that changed Australia
2026/07/10
Thirty years ago, Australia experienced the deadliest mass shooting in its history. The Port Arthur massacre transformed the country’s relationship to guns and reshaped firearms policy for decades. Now, following the Bondi Beach attack in December 2025, Australia is once again questioning whether those reforms are still sufficient. Mairead Dundas revisits Port Arthur for France 24
US history gets a presidential makeover for its 250th birthday
2026/07/03
This year, the United States is marking 250 years of independence with celebrations across the country. An historic occasion that US President Donald Trump intends to turn into the crowning achievement of his second term by changing the appearance of Washington DC to his taste – and infusing his vision of American history into national museums, parks and monuments. FRANCE 24's Fanny Allard and Fraser Jackson Revisit the US, 250 years after the Declaration of Independence.

2026/06/12
On June 23, 2016 the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union with 52 percent of "Leave" votes against 48 percent for "Remain". It was a political storm few had predicted. Ten years on, our Revisited show explores the social and political impact of the decision. How did Brexit reshape the country and has it helped improve people's lives? What has been the impact on the economy and on sectors like farming?
Mexico's Tijuana: From gateway to the American Dream to dead end
2026/05/29
With Iran's national football team set to be based in Tijuana, Mexico, for the upcoming World Cup, our reporters Laurence Cuvillier and Matthieu Comin travelled to the Mexican city known for being one of the most dangerous in the world. Until recently, this border city with the United States was the main crossing point for Mexican migrants seeking the American Dream. But with US President Donald Trump's return to power, everything has changed. Tijuana has become a dead end.
Bangalore: India's Silicon Valley, a city straining under pressure
2026/05/15

The South Indian city of nearly 15 million people is now home to global tech giants including Apple, Microsoft, Intel, Adobe and Boeing, as well as thousands of startups. But this rapid development comes with environmental consequences. Our correspondents report.
'Baseball bat years' continue to haunt eastern Germany, 30 years on
2026/04/24
In the 1990s, just after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the former East Germany experienced a wave of far-right racist and political violence. In Germany, this period is known as the "baseball bat years" – a dark period that still haunts the country today.
Gladio: NATO’s secret cold war operation in Italy
2026/04/10
One of Europe’s biggest state secrets – and a scandal that still shakes Italy today – was a clandestine army set up by NATO after World War II to block the spread of communism. During the Cold War, cells of the network operated in around ten European countries. In Italy, the covert operation was known by the code name Gladio. Natalia Mendoza, Tommaso Marro, and Laura Roudaut report.
Soviet famine still haunts Moldova, 80 years on
2026/03/27
Eighty years ago, Moldova was struck by a famine that killed more than 150,000 people. Long shrouded in silence, this episode remains a blind spot in the country's history. But gradually, survivors' accounts, combined with the work of researchers, have shed light on a tragedy largely orchestrated by the Soviet authorities of the time. FRANCE 24's Maria Gerth Niculescu and Bastien Renouil report.
South Korea: The forgotten Jeju uprising and massacre
2026/03/13
Nearly 80 years ago, a brutal crackdown on Jeju Island in southern Korea claimed tens of thousands of lives. In the aftermath of World War II, the Korean peninsula was drawn into the Cold War and divided in two: a Soviet-backed regime in the North, and a US-supported nationalist government in the South. On Jeju, some residents resisted this division, and the South Korean government soon branded the island a communist stronghold.
Amid chaos, southern Yemen dreams of regaining independence
2026/02/20
Hundreds of thousands of people in Aden, in southern Yemen, are calling for the return of the pre-1990 state of South Yemen, creating a gaping rift with the legitimate Saudi-backed government. Led by the Southern Transitional Council (STC), this desire for independence is hampered by a brutal reality on the ground: the country is plagued by gas shortages, a stalled economy and a healthcare system in dire straits. FRANCE 24's Mathilde Delvigne reports.

FRANCE 24's Sarah Sakho and Simon Martin report.
