Colossians 3:1-4 Having reminded us of the preeminence of Christ, that he has reconciled us to God by the sacrifice of his blood, and that he's seated in heavenly places, Paul challenges us to live our lives according to the principles of God's kingdom. Earthly things will pass away, but we can enjoy His glory now and forever. Website: immanuelde.com Facebook: immanuelchurchwilmington YouTube: Immanuel Church Wilmington DE

Colossians 2:16-23 Paul points out the difference between religious rules and laws, and the reality of life in Christ. They are just a shadow of spiritual truth, while Christ is the substance. Beware of counterfeit spirituality. He cautions us from judging people by those rules and laws. Do not submit to rules that cannot conquer the flesh. Live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age. Avoid self-made religion and follow the ways of Christ. Colossians 2: 1-15 Paul has reminded us that God's mystery is that Christ can now dwell within us. As a result, God's wisdom and knowledge is available to us. He then challenges us to be grounded in Christ, so that we don't get led astray with false doctrines and philosophies that are based on elements of the world. When Christ rose from the dead, he defeated all rulers and authorities of the enemy. Refuse captivity, because Christ Is completely sufficient. He is all we need. Colossians 1:24-29 As Pastor Jeff continues to heal from his surgery, a church member who is a retired pastor continues our study of Colossians. Apostle Paul makes it clear that he is willing to suffer so that the mystery of Christ is brought to the world. It's the fact that Christ can dwell in us by his Spirit. Previous generations didn't have the power to overcome sin. By the sacrifice of Christ for our sins, we now have the hope of glory with God, as well as the wisdom and knowledge from God. 1 Kings 19:19-21 Pastor Joe Gonyea and his wife, Elyse, shared about their mission calling to Japan. He then gave this sermon about Elisha's calling to lay everything down and to give all to the service of God. God has called us all to be missionaries where we are. Once we realize that, we need to stop holding on to the things of this world and give our all to our mission, through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Website: immanuelde.com Facebook: immanuelchurchwilmington YouTube: Immanuel Church Wilmington DE

Colossians 1:21-23 Paul makes clear the nature of our reconciliation with God because of the blood of Christ. He contrasts our life before that as one of alienation, hostility and evil actions, with our new life, which is holy, faultless and blameless before God. We need to remember who we were, rest in what Christ has done, and remain grounded in the Gospel. Website: immanuelde.com Facebook: immanuelchurchwilmington YouTube: Immanuel Church Wilmington DE

Colossians 1:15-20 As Paul continues his letter to the Colossians, he emphasizes the centrality of Christ as God. "All things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and by him all things hold together." When the world is in turmoil, we can take solace in the fact that He holds all things together. He reinforces that Christ is the Head of the Church, and that He reconciled everything to Himself, making peace through His blood. Colossians 1:9-14 As we continue our series on Colossians, we see Paul challenging us to spiritual maturity. Maturity begins with knowing God's will and shows up in how we walk. A mature Chistian depends on God's power and remembers what the Father has done. He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. We must continue to give Him first place in everything. Website: immanuelde.com Facebook: immanuelchurchwilmington YouTube: Immanuel Church Wilmington DE

Colossians 1:1-8 We begin a new series covering the book of Colossians, a letter from Paul to the church in Colosse. He begins by complimenting the church on its faith, love and hope. He then emphasizes the need for Christ to not only be important in our life, but first place in everything. The Gospel gives us a new identity and a new life. If he is preeminent in our life, we will bear fruit. Website: immanuelde.com Facebook: immanuelchurchwilmington YouTube: Immanuel Church Wilmington DE

John 20:21 "Sent as He was Sent" This concludes the sermon series "A Community of Light". Because the risen Christ was sent by the Father and now sends His people, the church must live as a gospel-shaped, Spirit-empowered, mission-minded community in the world. We are not merely saved from the world; we are sent into it by Jesus. We considered 4 ways to follow His calling: 1- See yourself as sent, 2- Pray for open doors, 3- Speak the Gospel clearly, 4- Live in a way that fits the message. Matthew 5:14-16 "Witness in a Dark World" After previously being challenged to love one another, to bear one another's burdens, and to walk in the unity of the Spirit, we are now challenged to shine His light to the world. The church does not create the light; we reflect the Light who has changed us. Because Christ has made us His people, we are called to live visibly different lives that point a watching world toward the glory of our Father. Ways to shine include: living with visible integrity; noticing someone who needs light; doing something good without needing credit; being ready to speak of Jesus. Ephesians 4:1-6 "Unity in the Spirit" Paul encourages us to live our life in a manner worthy of our calling as Christians. One aspect of that is to seek to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. We looked at four practical ways to protect unity: 1- ASSUME LESS AND ASK MORE. 2- MAKE CHRIST BIGGER THAN YOUR PREFERENCES. 3- TALK TO PEOPLE, NOT ABOUT PEOPLE. 4- REMEMBER THE ONENESS YOU SHARE. Colossians 3:12-15 "Bearing With One Another" We look at Paul's letter to the Colossians where he describes the characteristics that should be present in a Christian community. We should have compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. We should be bearing with one another since we are all sinners saved by grace. This will enable us to be a light to the world, drawing people out of darkness. Website: immanuelde.com Facebook: immanuelchurchwilmington YouTube: Immanuel Church Wilmington DE

John 13:34-35 "Love One Another" Having finished a series challenging us to grow in Him, we begin a new series challenging us to reflect Him. John chapters 13-17 contain the final instructions of Jesus before the cross. The Old Testament told us to love one another as we love ourselves, but Jesus gave the command to love one another as He loved us. He humbled himself before others. He loved imperfect people patiently. He loved us with truth and grace. He loved us sacrificially. Jesus died to create a redeemed family. Love must come from Christ before it can flow through us, shining His light to the world. Website: immanuelde.com Facebook: immanuelchurchwilmington YouTube: Immanuel Church Wilmington DE

Galatians 5:22-25 "Fruit That Remains" As we concluded the "Abide" series, we reviewed the lessons from the previous weeks. Study the Word. Pray with quicky prayers throughout the day, as well as having devoted prayer times. Fellowship with other believers who can support you. Obey God in the small things. Remember that the fruit of the Spirit is not decoration, but meant to feed a hungry world. Pastor Jeff was in an accident, so will be out for several weeks, but sermons will be from Pastor Will for a brief season. Pray for Pastor Jeff's smooth and rapid recovery.
