BOARD MEETINGS | The Jury Is Still Out on These Climbing Training Methods
2026/03/23
It seems like everyday that a new training method pops up. Some are great. Some not so much. In this episode, Nate and I discuss several climbing training methods that have become popular, but that there just isn't enough evidence on yet to say that they actually work.
Juliet Hammer | A Better Relationship With Climbing Grades (Especially if You're Short)
2026/03/10
Like it or not, grades are a part of climbing, and I've recently been exploring how to have a good relationship with them. In that exploration, I've decided on a range that I believe any given grade represents.  But to stress test that range, I wanted to talk to someone who is an above average climber with an above average resume, spends a considerable amount of time thinking about this subject, AND who ISN’T the height of an average male like I am.  One person really stood above the others – pun intended. Juliet Hammer. She’s a coach, crusher, has been doing experiments concerning indoor grades and working on a resource for how to engage with grades. And she’s just shy of 5 feet tall. Perfect.  Check Out Juliet's Course Beyond Grades Juliet on YouTube Watch My Grade Videos Subscribe To The Current
BOARD MEETINGS | Training Cliches Worth Listening To
2026/03/09
Most training cliche's lack nuance and frankly, aren't really worth much. However, some have become common cliches for a reason - because they get to the point in a nearly perfect way. Nate and I discuss some of the training cliches that climbers should be listening to. Subscribe to THE CURRENT and get a monthly exploration of how we can all become better climbers. Taking a tactical approach is important, but what is the goal? Are we getting this wrong?
TAPED TIPS | The Simplest (Effective) Climbing Training
2026/02/24
➡️ WATCH IT ON YOUTUBE ➡️ FREE TRY HARDER TOOLKIT ➡️ ASSESS AND IMPROVE YOUR TECHNIQUE ➡️ TAKE THE GUESSWORK OUT OF TRAINING Most "simple" training plans are actually fairly complicated when compared to the basics of how to improve at climbing. But they don't need to be. This might be the simplest - and still effective - training plan for climbers of pretty much all levels.
BOARD MEETINGS | Common Climbing Training Advice That's Too Good To Be True
2026/02/23
In todays algorithmic age, we often get the advice and information that appeals to us - which isn't always the advice we need. In fact, the algorithm rewards advice that is just too good to be true. Nate and I discuss a few of the most common pieces of climbing advice that when examined, don't really hold up. TAPED TIPS | What Climbers Get Wrong About Microbeta (And What We Can Do Better)
2026/02/09
When climbers work a project, the process often goes straight from beta discovery to dialing in microbeta. This isn't wrong, but might be missing some important pieces.  Watch it on YouTube ➡️ASSESS AND IMPROVE YOUR TECHNIQUE ➡️MONTHLY CLIMBING THOUGHTS IN YOUR INBOX  Music Used: "Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 in G, Movement I (Allegro), BWV 1049" "Bass Vibes" "Bass Walker" "Rollin at 5" "String Impromptu Number 1" From: Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ DISCLAIMER: Climbing and training for climbing is inherently dangerous. We regularly discuss microbeta and regular beta, but what about macrobeta?
BOARD MEETINGS | Climbing Molehills We'll Die On
2026/02/03
Climbers often have strong opinions about things that may not actually matter so much. These are the tiny things that Nate and I feel strongly about, whether or not it matters.
