EP 3849 Struggling Vs Resisting
2026/09/28
There is a powerful difference between struggling with something and resisting it.
Struggling often happens when life is difficult, uncertain or uncomfortable. You may be facing pressure, setbacks, disappointment or circumstances you cannot immediately change. Struggle is part of being human. It can challenge you, strengthen you and reveal what you are capable of.
Resistance is different. Resistance is the energy you spend fighting against reality instead of dealing with what is actually in front of you.
You can resist a difficult conversation. You can resist responsibility. You can resist change. You can resist asking for help. You can even resist emotions because you believe acknowledging them makes you weaker.
The problem is that resistance consumes enormous amounts of energy without necessarily moving your life forward.
In this episode of The Strong Life Project, Shaun O’Gorman explores the difference between struggling and resisting and why recognising the difference can change the way you respond to stress, adversity and difficult circumstances.
For men, leaders and anyone serious about personal development, emotional intelligence and resilience, this distinction matters. You cannot control everything that happens to you, but you can control how you respond to what happens.
The goal is not to eliminate struggle. The goal is to stop wasting energy resisting reality and start using that energy to take purposeful action.
When you accept where you are, you create the clarity to decide where you go next.
This episode will challenge you to examine where you are genuinely struggling and where you may simply be resisting what needs to be faced.
If you are dealing with stress, uncertainty, relationship challenges, leadership pressure or personal setbacks, this conversation provides a practical perspective for developing greater resilience, emotional control and personal responsibility.
Listen to EP 3849 and ask yourself one simple question: Am I struggling with this, or am I resisting it?

EP 3848 Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional
2026/09/27
Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
Every person will experience pain. Loss, rejection, failure, disappointment, stress, betrayal, uncertainty and moments where life feels completely unfair are part of being human. You cannot control whether difficult things happen to you. You can control what you do with them.
In EP 3848 of The Strong Life Project Podcast, Shaun O’Gorman explores the difference between experiencing pain and allowing that pain to control your life. Pain is a physical and emotional response to something happening. Suffering often develops when we continually resist reality, replay the past, catastrophise the future or attach our identity to what has happened.
This distinction matters because resilience is not about pretending pain does not exist. It is about developing the emotional strength, self awareness and personal responsibility required to move through difficult experiences without allowing them to define you.
For men especially, there can be enormous pressure to suppress pain, stay silent and simply push through. That approach might work temporarily, but unresolved pain has a way of showing up through anger, withdrawal, anxiety, damaged relationships, poor decisions and destructive behaviours.
The goal is not to eliminate pain. The goal is to learn how to respond to it effectively.
In this episode, Shaun challenges you to examine where you may be creating unnecessary suffering through the way you think, react and interpret difficult circumstances. You will learn why accepting reality can create strength, why emotional control is different from emotional suppression and how taking responsibility for your response can change the direction of your life.
If you are dealing with adversity, stress, failure or personal setbacks, this episode will give you a practical framework for building resilience, emotional intelligence and mental strength.
Pain may be unavoidable.
What you do next is your responsibility.

EP 3847 Train like you’ve never won, compete like you’ve never lost
2026/09/26
Success can be dangerous when you start believing it guarantees your future.
The moment you become comfortable with what you have achieved, you begin to lose the hunger, discipline and intensity that created those results in the first place.
In this episode of The Strong Life Project, Shaun O’Gorman explores a mindset that separates people who achieve success from people who sustain it: train like you’ve never won, compete like you’ve never lost.
Whether you are building a business, leading a team, developing your career, raising a family or working towards a personal goal, your previous achievements do not guarantee your next result. Experience matters, but experience without continued growth can quickly become complacency.
High performance requires you to keep preparing when you are already successful. It means maintaining high standards when nobody is watching, continuing to develop your skills when you are already considered good, and refusing to allow past victories to become an excuse for future mediocrity.
Shaun breaks down the psychology behind staying hungry without becoming obsessed, competitive without becoming reckless, and confident without becoming complacent.
You will learn why successful people can become vulnerable when they start protecting their reputation instead of pursuing improvement, how disciplined preparation creates confidence under pressure, and why your standards must remain higher than your current results.
If you want to become more resilient, mentally stronger and more effective in your career, leadership, relationships and life, this episode will challenge you to look closely at the standards you are currently living by.
You may have already won.
Your next question is whether you are still training like you have something to prove.

EP 3846 Life really is what you make of it
2026/09/25
Life really is what you make of it.
In EP 3846 of The Strong Life Project, Shaun O’Gorman explores one of the most powerful truths about personal growth, resilience and leadership: your life is heavily influenced by the decisions you make every day.
It is easy to blame circumstances, other people, your past, bad luck or the challenges you have been handed. Some circumstances genuinely are outside your control. What remains within your control is how you respond, what you choose to focus on and what you decide to do next.
Your life is built through repeated choices. The standards you accept, the people you surround yourself with, the habits you reinforce, the conversations you have and the actions you take all contribute to the person you become and the life you create.
This episode challenges you to stop waiting for the perfect circumstances before taking responsibility for your future. You do not need to have everything figured out. You need to make better decisions with what you know today.
That means taking responsibility for your health, relationships, career, leadership, mindset and personal development. It means recognising where you have been making excuses and being honest about the areas where you have the power to change your circumstances.
Resilience is not about having an easy life. It is about developing the strength, emotional intelligence and personal responsibility to deal with life effectively when things become difficult.
Whether you are a business leader, professional, parent, partner or simply someone who wants more from life, this episode is a reminder that your choices matter.
You cannot control everything that happens to you.
You can control what you do with it.
Your life is being created by your decisions every day. Make them count.

EP 3845 Encouragement Helps Us All
2026/09/24
Encouragement has more power than most people realise. A few genuine words at the right moment can change how someone sees themselves, how they respond to pressure and whether they keep moving forward when life becomes difficult.
In this episode of The Strong Life Project, Shaun O’Gorman explores why encouragement matters in our relationships, families, workplaces and communities. We all experience moments when confidence drops, motivation disappears and the weight of responsibility starts to feel overwhelming. During those moments, having someone who believes in us can make a significant difference.
Encouragement is not about giving people empty praise or telling them what they want to hear. Real encouragement comes from recognising effort, acknowledging progress and reminding people of their capability when they temporarily lose sight of it themselves.
This is particularly important for leaders. The people around you are constantly receiving signals from your words, your behaviour and the standards you set. A leader who knows how to encourage people can build confidence, resilience, accountability and stronger relationships. The same principle applies at home. Our partners, children, friends and family members all need to know that their efforts are seen and appreciated.
Shaun also explores the importance of encouraging yourself. Personal resilience requires more than discipline and determination. It requires the ability to recognise your own progress, learn from setbacks and keep moving forward without constantly beating yourself up.
Whether you are leading a team, raising a family, building a career or simply trying to become a stronger version of yourself, encouragement matters.
Sometimes people do not need another lecture, another criticism or another solution. Sometimes they need someone to remind them that they are capable of getting through what is in front of them.
The words you choose can have a lasting impact. Use them wisely.

EP 3844 Stay quiet, Stay private, Stay humble
2026/09/23
In a world where everyone feels the need to share everything, there is enormous strength in knowing when to stay quiet.
You do not need to announce every goal, explain every decision or tell everyone what you are building. Some things become stronger when they are protected from outside opinions, unnecessary attention and people who have not earned access to your life.
Staying quiet does not mean being weak. It means becoming comfortable enough with yourself that you no longer need constant validation from other people.
Staying private means understanding that not everyone deserves access to your plans, relationships, finances, struggles or ambitions. Your life does not need to become public property simply because you are making progress.
And staying humble means remembering that success can disappear just as quickly as it arrives. Keep learning. Keep working. Keep improving. Let your actions speak louder than your announcements.
This episode of The Strong Life Project explores why silence, privacy and humility can become powerful advantages in your personal life, relationships, career and leadership.
We live in an environment where attention is often mistaken for achievement. People announce their plans before they have done the work. They seek recognition before they have created results. They allow outside opinions to influence decisions that should have been made privately.
There is another way.
Build quietly. Protect what matters. Let your results speak for themselves.
Whether you are working on your career, business, relationships, health or personal development, learning when to speak and when to stay silent is a powerful form of emotional intelligence.
The strongest people do not need everyone to know what they are doing.
They simply do the work.

EP 3843 Why do we get so defensive?
2026/09/22
Why do we get so defensive when someone challenges us, questions our decisions, or points out something we would rather not see?
Defensiveness is one of the most common reactions that damages relationships, leadership, communication and personal growth. The problem is that most people do not recognise defensiveness while it is happening. They simply believe they are protecting themselves, standing their ground or correcting someone else.
In EP 3843 of The Strong Life Project, Shaun O’Gorman explores why people become defensive and what is really happening beneath the surface when we feel challenged. Defensiveness can be triggered by criticism, shame, insecurity, fear of failure, past experiences, damaged confidence or the feeling that our identity is being threatened.
Learning to recognise these triggers is an important part of emotional intelligence. When you can pause before reacting, you create space to understand what is actually happening instead of automatically defending your position.
This episode explores how defensiveness affects relationships, leadership, workplace communication and personal development. It also looks at the importance of being able to hear uncomfortable feedback without immediately turning it into an argument.
Strong people are not people who never feel challenged. They are people who can remain composed when they are challenged and have enough self awareness to ask whether there is something valuable in what they are hearing.
If you want to become more resilient, communicate more effectively, strengthen your relationships and become a better leader, learning to manage defensiveness is a powerful place to start.
Listen to EP 3843 Why Do We Get So Defensive? and consider where defensiveness may be protecting your ego while holding back your growth.

EP 3842 Your body can be on high alert even when it’s safe
2026/09/21
Your body can learn to stay on high alert long after the danger has passed.
You can be sitting at home, driving to work, lying in bed or spending time with the people you love, yet your nervous system can still behave as though something is about to go wrong. Your heart rate may increase. Your muscles stay tense. You become easily irritated. You struggle to relax. Your sleep becomes disrupted. You constantly scan your environment for problems.
This is what happens when your body becomes conditioned to operate in a state of high alert.
Chronic stress, trauma, demanding careers, prolonged pressure and repeated exposure to stressful situations can teach your nervous system that being prepared for danger is the safest option. The problem is that your body does not always recognise when the threat has disappeared.
Living in this state can affect far more than your mental health. It can influence your relationships, decision making, emotional control, concentration, sleep, physical recovery and ability to enjoy your life.
In this episode of The Strong Life Project, Shaun O’Gorman explains why your body can remain stuck in survival mode even when your environment is safe. He explores hypervigilance, chronic stress, nervous system regulation and the physical consequences of living with a constant sense of threat.
Most importantly, this episode highlights that resilience is not about permanently staying switched on. High performance requires knowing when to activate and when to recover.
If you regularly feel tense, restless, reactive, exhausted but unable to switch off, or constantly prepared for the next problem, this episode will help you understand what may be happening inside your body and what you can begin doing about it.
Your body is designed to protect you. Learning when it is safe to stand down is an important part of building a stronger life.

EP 3841 Why is it so hard to ask for what you want?
2026/09/20
Why is it so hard to ask for what you really want?
For many people, asking for what they want creates discomfort. They worry about rejection, being judged, appearing selfish, disappointing someone else or hearing the word no. So instead of asking, they stay quiet, compromise their needs and hope other people will somehow understand what they want.
The problem is that people cannot respond to a request you never make.
In this episode of The Strong Life Project, we explore why asking for what you want can feel so uncomfortable and what this reluctance reveals about confidence, self worth, boundaries and emotional intelligence.
Learning to ask clearly is an important life skill. It applies to relationships, leadership, business, career progression, family, friendships and personal development. Whether you want more respect, greater responsibility at work, better communication in your relationship, support from your family or simply more control over how you spend your time, you need to be able to communicate your needs directly.
Asking for what you want does not guarantee that you will get it. It does give the other person the opportunity to understand you and make an informed decision.
The goal is not to demand that other people give you what you want. The goal is to develop the confidence to communicate honestly, handle the response and continue moving forward without abandoning your own standards.
If you regularly keep your opinions to yourself, avoid difficult conversations or put everyone else’s needs ahead of your own, this episode will challenge you to look at why.
Strong relationships, effective leadership and a strong life require honest communication.
Sometimes the first step towards changing your life is simply having the courage to ask for what you want.

EP 3840 Sometimes the boundary is for you
2026/09/19
Sometimes the boundary you need to set is not about changing another person. It is about protecting yourself.
In this episode of The Strong Life Project, Shaun O’Gorman explores why healthy boundaries are essential for resilience, emotional intelligence, leadership, relationships and personal growth. Many people spend years trying to make other people understand their needs, respect their values or behave differently. The result is often frustration, resentment, disappointment and unnecessary stress.
A boundary gives you clarity about what you will accept, what you will tolerate and what you will do when a situation repeatedly crosses the line. More importantly, a boundary is something you control. You cannot control another person’s behaviour, choices or reaction, but you can control your response and the standards you set for your own life.
Shaun discusses why setting boundaries can feel uncomfortable, particularly for people who have spent years putting everyone else first. Saying no can create guilt. Creating distance can feel selfish. Walking away from a situation can feel like failure. Yet sometimes the most resilient decision you can make is to stop participating in situations that continually damage your wellbeing.
This episode explores the connection between boundaries and self respect, emotional resilience, relationships, leadership and mental wellbeing. Whether you are dealing with difficult people, challenging relationships, workplace pressure or patterns that repeatedly drain your energy, learning to establish stronger boundaries can fundamentally change how you experience life.
Sometimes the boundary is for the other person. Sometimes the boundary is for the relationship. And sometimes, the boundary is simply for you.
If you want to become more resilient, emotionally intelligent and effective in your relationships, this episode will challenge you to examine where you need stronger boundaries and what you are willing to do to maintain them.

EP 3839 Inability to say ” I’m wrong is not strong
2026/09/18
There is nothing strong about refusing to admit when you are wrong. For many people, saying “I was wrong” can feel like weakness. Pride takes over. The ego gets involved. Suddenly, protecting your position becomes more important than protecting the relationship, solving the problem or becoming a better person. But real strength requires accountability. In […]
