There's something about the turning of seasons, especially the fading of summer into fall, that reminds me of Psalm 90:12 when Moses prayed, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Maybe it's the leaves showing their final act of glory before they let go, leaving behind bare branches, cold and dormant, or even seeing the skeletons pop up in neighborhood yards, jesting about death the deaf, but calling to the wise Momento Mori - remember you will die so lay down personal glory and serve the One true God. The shorter days slip quickly into evening just like how time to slips quickly into the future. It's not a dour season, but a gracious marker to number our days knowing we are but a vapor. As we see the fruit of wickedness unfold each day in our nation I have to truths to give balm to the soul and sobering perspective as we live in our small window of time.    In Job 21:14-15 Job says of the wicked: "They say to God, ‘Depart from us! We do not desire the knowledge of your ways. What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit do we get if we pray to him?’" All of our days are numbered. Yours. Mine. Our children. The wicked.  The difference is that when our day comes and our breath is cut off, we will be with God. Fully healed whole justified.  But for the unrepentant - only God's wrath. God is not mocked. We all deserve death. Can we really just declare something and make it happen? How do we pray for things we want? Today I am sharing about the trouble with manifestation and how to think biblically about our personal desires, goals, and prayers. --------------------------- Manifestation is the practice coming out of the New Thought movement which has similiaries to New Age beliefes where you bring your desires, goals, or intentions into reality through focused thought, belief, and action and even your spoken word. Manifestation is troubling for many reasons - the biggest being it leads people away from their true need of Christ. It teaches that all we need and desire can be found in our own power. It teaches that we are little gods with power and authority to create and call into existence the things that are not. It drives us away from God because it falsely teaches we have the ability and power to create our reality and that our lives are about our will. It tears down trust in God. It is so good for us to return to the Word each day and to get our understanding about God and our world and our lives from the Bible.
