Description
Writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington is joined by a series of guests for a bit of a chat about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to. From Coming On Strong by Broken English and The Order Of The McVitie's Hobnob, to whichever TV programme it was that ended with footage of dandelion seeds being blown away, we're here to try and help, and to confirm that no, nobody else remembers them either.

Looks Unfamiliar's New Season: Bob Fischer And Georgy Jamieson - The Kraken's Big Night In
2026/09/07
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.
This time it's the NEW SEASON, and Tim, Bob Fischer and Georgy Jamieson are all crowding into a local radio studio where they have been tasked with taking listeners through the highlights coming to your TV this autumn, ready to take your calls about the Good Winter Telly - and the not-so-good - that kept us entertained on frosty back-to-school evenings in years gone by. In a Bob's Full House of a chat we'll be discovering Tommy Cooper's stance on the suedehead phenomenon, wading through Margaret Thatcher's torrent of letters to Boxpops, encountering Emmerdale Farm Hauntology and Trades Union Congress Folk Horror, disputing the branched timeline of Alan Partridge's headmasters, not buying a Merlin Tonto Optimus Prime Victorian Time Machine Opening Titles Of The Wombles Marvellous Mechanical Mouse-Organ, querying the lack of a Terry And June synopsis and why this might point towards a crossover with The Wire, revealing why Professor Yaffle had 'beef' with The Two Davids, attending a demonstration by the Derek Jameson Wokerati and generally debating whether or not to watch There's F*****g Millions Of Us Presenting This, Barbara Cartland's Condensation and Last Of The Ewok Summer Wine. Not to mention trying to work out what on Earth those TV Times 'genre' icons were actually about. Call in and tell us if you know what time The Kraken is on now!
You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/. Bob and Georgy joined me for similarly seasonal chats about some of their favourite forgotten Christmas trimmings here, the rain-lashed joys of the Great British Summertime here, the spooky and sparkly delights of Halloween and Bonfire Night here and chocolate-scoffing Easter standbys here, You can also find Bob on Looks Unfamiliar chatting about The Tom O’Connor Roadshow, Giant Hogweed, Can’t Get A Ticket (For The World Cup) by Peter Dean, Glee Bars, J. Edward Oliver’s ‘Abolish Tuesdays’ and How To Be A Wally here, Eighties ‘Tabloid Celebrities’, Accidentally Kelly Street by Frente!, The Two Ronnies’ ‘Mileaway’, Rude Food, Suggs On Saturday and School Folk Songs here and Tucker’s Luck, Pookiesnackenburger, We Wanna Be Famous by Buster Gobsmack And Eats Filth’, game show contestants’ occupations being booed by the studio audience and the lost ancient art of the paper plate and shaving foam Custard Pie here, and Georgy on Indoor League, Re-Joyce!, the The Animals In The Box sketch, the Paul Squire Fan Club, Pippa Dolls, Pig In The Middle and Good Winter Telly here, Wait Till Your Father Gets Home, Go For Broke!, Last Chance Lottery, Fry’s Five Centres and Vesta Ready Meals here and the EKCO Hostess Trolley, Terry’s Spartan, A Sharp Intake Of Breath, John Cleese’s How To Win Holes By Influencing People, Charlie Chester’s Sunday Soapbox and tuning your radio in to the television signal here. You can also find Georgy and Bob on The Golden Age Of Children's TV talking about Bod here and The Owl Service here.

141 - Martin Fitzgerald - Robert De Niro And Al Pacino Are Famously Not In Cool Runnings
2026/08/15
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.
Joining Tim this time is writer Martin Fitzgerald, who's determined to prove that the FBI have redacted their files on his eyewitness accounts of Dallas, The Rock'n'Roll Years, Shoot Magazine's 'Focus On' profiles and Jackpot comic. Along the way we'll be travelling to Knots Landing-616 to meet a monochrome Sue Ellen, questioning whether a larger crowd would turn up to meet Andy Gray or London Zoo's new pantropical spotted dolphin 'Harold', estimating how many titles on the Video Nasties list Ian Wright might have hidden behind the sofa from and trying our best not to win a bathtubful of lemonade.
You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/.
If you enjoy Looks Unfamiliar, you can help to support the show by buying us a coffee here. A bathtubful of THAT is acceptable.
140 - Georgy Jamieson - I Bet She Got It From A Catalogue
2026/08/07
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.
Joining Tim this time is broadcaster Georgy Jamieson, trying to distribute heat evenly between her recollections of the ECKCO Hostess Trolley, Terry's Spartan, A Sharp Intake Of Breath, John Cleese's How To Win Holes By Influencing People, Charlie Chester's Sunday Soapbox and the lost art of tuning your radio in to the television signal. Along the way we'll be declining to try Heston Blumenthal's Bouncing Casserole, finding out when Ronnie Corbett looks more like Ronnie Corbett than Ronnie Corbett, trying not to think about what a 'Super-Bath' might involve and watching what happens when Peter Cook takes John Cleese's advice on how to write a letter to Bob Fischer...
You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/. You can also find Georgy on Looks Unfamiliar talking about Indoor League, Re-Joyce!, the Animals In The Box sketch, the Paul Squire Fan Club, Pippa Dolls, Pig In The Middle and Good Winter Telly here and Wait Till Your Father Gets Home, Go For Broke!, Last Chance Lottery, Fry’s Five Centres and Vesta Ready Meals here. as well as joining Bob Fischer for a festively tinged chat about some of the signs that Christmas was coming that you just don't get any more here and a similarly Kiss Me Quick Hat-averting Summer-themed chat here, standing well back for a joint Halloween slash Bonfire Night party here and trying to stage their own ill-advised 'Easter Parade' here. Georgy also gave us her milkshake-questioning thoughts on Bod in The Golden Age Of Children's TV here.
If you enjoy Looks Unfamiliar, you can help to support the show by buying us a coffee here. They didn't do a Coffee Spartan. Or at least as far as anyone can tell from that one smudgey photo of the back of a box of them.
139 - David Quantick - We Were Excited Because We Saw Hugh Scully's Makeup Chair
2026/07/02
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.

Along the way we'll be battling to stop the fiendish plots of The Dastardly Man and Captain Wind-Up Toy, debating whether it was worth getting a colour television to see a blue man behind a desk, explaining why Little Lord Fauntleroy was the Minions of 1890 and taking bets on who will get changed first out of Michael Palin putting on an Edwardian bathing suit and Paul McCartney dressing up as a Teddy Boy.
You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/.
If you enjoy Looks Unfamiliar, you can help to support the show by buying us a coffee here. Please make sure not to send that Mike Oldfield album that had a mug of coffee flying down Route 101 or whatever it was on the cover.

Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.
Joining Tim this time is broadcast historian Gareth Randall, who's trying to decide whether he'd really rather not have any confirmation of his recollections of notorious Screen Test Young Film-Maker Of The Year entry Ice Cream, Pepe Jeans' 'Where's Pepe?' advertising campaign, Keep Your Pecker Up by Eugene And The Syncopaters, Captain Micro's Electronic Comic, Tim And The Hidden People by Sheila K. McCullagh, Master Maze, Skirrid, 'one-man body band' Darren Kimpton and Take Hart On Holiday. Along the way we'll be assessing the commercial potential of the Lib Dems of jeans, finding out how to get two Blue Peter badges by mistake, casting an eye over the Paul Daniels Video Nasty, explaining why Morph is legally 'different' if he has a mohican but not if he has a knotted handkerchief on his head and cheering on a team of swearing nuns. You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/.
If you enjoy Looks Unfamiliar, you can help to support the show by buying us a coffee here. With an endorsement scribbled on by the barista vigorously confirming that they have heard of the word 'coffee'.

2026/06/21
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.
Joining Tim this time is political commentator Mark Thompson, who's hoping that it's not too weird remembering Lenny Henry's Smiths Square Crisps adverts, the 'Allied Lyons - A Great British Company' campaign, The Quiet Earth, Steve Jackson Games' Illuminati, early Channel 4 sitcoms The Optimist and Father's Day and a variety of just about legal payphone 'workarounds'. Along the way we'll be predicting which would prove most profitable out of Findus Crisps and Golden Wonder Shark Jumps, explaining how Roy Jay was too weird for 'It's Weird...', revealing how to repel adolescent phone box miscreants armed only with Red Red Wine by UB40 and considering whether Channel 4 could actually have happened without John Alderton's old shirts.
You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/. You can also find Mark on Looks Unfamiliar talking about Whiz Kids, Crash ZX Spectrum, Night Shift, Public Information Film family The Blunders, The Last Train and The Drak Pack here, Libby’s Moonshine, A. James Bond) by Pizzicato Five, Your Party Needs You, Jasper Carrott’s I’ve Got This Mole, Society, Lost In Austen, Tarantulas: The Deadly Cargo and Shadow Chasers here, as well as Running Scared on The Golden Age Of Children’s TV here.
If you enjoy Looks Unfamiliar, you can help to support the show by buying us a coffee here. Don't bother with the Lyons website though. The more you read it, the more confused you'll get over whether it's actually available or not.

Along the way we'll be trying to decode a waterlogged baking soda-infused secret message with 'SECRET' written on it, finding out what happened when 'Les' left The Beatles, debating the politeness of actually turning up to a party you have been cordially invited to, exploring the commercial potential of Talking Sherbet and finally revealing why the key to global unity lies somewhere between Housing Data Analytics and Happy Hardcore.

2026/04/05
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.
This time, in a special Easter edition, Tim, Bob Fischer and Georgy Jamieson are all crowding into a local radio studio where listeners have been begged not to send in any more home-made Hot Cross Buns, ready to take your calls about some of the over-ostentatiously seasonally-repackaged chocolate that you just don't seem to get any more. So that's incomprehensible classroom 'projects', television schedules crammed with sentient Volkswagens, Easter Eggs devoid of separately packaged confectionary 'extras' and more. In a Jif Lemon Day of a chat we'll be navigating the EU Pancake Mountain, tuning in for the Telly Addicts Whit Special, declining to tune in for Why Don't F*****g You...?, discovering whether The Flying Pickets prefer real chocolate or a 'candy'-derived substitute, querying whether Graham Hill can effectively introduce clips from Fantasia going at that speed, storylining Tiger Tots: Infinity War, debating the merits of the theme from dull 'zoo vet' drama One By One, and generally berating Bob for his lack of Terry Scott Research, Call in and tell us if you know the lyrics to 'Welcome Jolly Easter' now!
You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/. Bob and Georgy joined me for similarly seasonal chats about some of their favourite forgotten Christmas trimmings here, the rain-lashed joys of the Great British Summertime here and the spooky and sparkly delights of Halloween and Bonfire Night here. You can also find Georgy and Bob on The Golden Age Of Children's TV talking about Bod here and The Owl Service here.

Along the way we'll be soliciting Gary Lineker's opinion on Napalm Death, debating the advisability of sending a pimped-up Viscount biscuit through the post, studying the phenomenon of the Traditional Scottish Head-Turn Wink, celebrating Mr. Blobby's success rate in exposing 'love rats' and trying to figure out why there were so many Pearly Kings all over Saturday Night TV in the late eighties.

Along the way we'll be querying why ZX Spectrum games with 'Way Of' in the title refused to load, catching up on Season Four of The Weird Butcher Man That Comes And Stands Next To You At The Bar, debating whether the New Wave Of New Wave could have been saved by selling more trousers, revealing how Brett Anderson disqualified himself from appearing on compilations and - of course - trying to attack Thorin with the Trolls' Path.

Along the way we'll be assessing Serena Williams' prowess on the school P.E. apparatus, attempting to stage a Barbenheimer-style double bill of Bagpuss and Roots, rating the Mountie-Adjacent Superhunks and debating whether the Milk Tray man would have had more romantic success if he'd traded exclusively in yoghurt.
