Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast: It's A Knockout
2026/04/23
Torquay United go to Tonbridge Angels on Saturday and must win there if they are going to guarantee a place in the National League South play-offs. Last weekend's defeat by Hemel Hempstead Town left Torquay's promotion hopes relying on a last-day win and then a successful passage through the play-offs - which could mean four cup finals yet! The podcasters - Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and Clive Hayward look back to Hemel and forward to Tonbridge and crunch the numbers - with Torquay able to finish second or even eighth and outside of the play-off zone. We also hear from Jimmy Ball at his Thursday press conference. Clive also tells us about a new TUST initiative - and you can learn more about Yellow Forever by clicking here! Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 16-04-26: Everything To Play For
2026/04/16
Torquay United have just two games left and the National League South title is still within grasp. That would take a few other teams playing ball for such a positive outcome - but second best is second place and a home run in the play-offs. After scoring nine goals in the last two games, Torquay are on fire and go into Saturday's home game against Hemel Hempstead Town full of confidence. Hemel will not be easy picking though - so it should be a tough and an entertaining game at Plainmoor on Saturday. Then it will be one more game to go - but manager Jimmy Ball isn't thinking about Tonbridge Angels yet... We hear from the manager about Slough and Hemel and his thoughts on the squad and the way things are going - and podcasters Guy Henderson, David Thomas, Richard Hughes and Clive Heyward have much to discuss for this one. Suddenly, the season is almost over - Saturday's results will decide so much. There is everything to play for... Come on you Yellows! Learn more about your ad choices. Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 09-04-26: It's All Gravy
2026/04/09
In the words of Torquay United manager Jimmy Ball, "it's all gravy" - after that amazing Easter weekend that saw the Gulls beat Weston-super-Mare 3-0 on Good Friday and Bath City 4-1 at home on Monday. Six points from the two games was the best outcome as the Gulls put themselves firmly in the race for promotion back to the National League. We hear from Ball as the manager talks through those two games and looks forward to this Saturday's away match at Slough Town. The podcasters Guy Henderson, David Thomas and Richard Hughes have much to discuss in the Palm Suite at Plainmoor. Join them for an hour and ... Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 02-04-26: A Massive Easter
2026/04/02
Here we go then - a busy four days with Easter bringing a Good Friday away game at Weston-super-Mare, who are rivals of Torquay United for a National League South play-off place. And then it's relegation-threatened Bath City at Plainmoor on Easter Monday for another massive game. With just five games of the season left they are all massive games now and it's a four-man podcast today with Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes, David Thomas and Clive Hayward all seated at an antique table to talk about the good old Gulls. We hear from the manager Jimmy Ball about the two games; and he talks about the new players, the injury situation (much better!) and Mrs Ball's love of the game... not! We also delve into the club's finances and Clive was at that amazing women's game at the weekend... Happy Easter podcast fans - and let's hope by this time next week we are six points better off and ready to finish the job off... Come On You Yellows! Learn more about your ad choices. Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 27-03-26: A Great Home Debut
2026/03/26
Nearly 4,000 people were at Plainmoor in the wind and rain on Tuesday night to watch new boss Jimmy Ball's first home game in charge of Torquay United - and few if any will have gone home disappointed. The Gulls gave it their all against a Dorking Wanderers side with the title in their sights, and a 2-2 draw was the least Ball's side deserved for their efforts. This week's Yellow Army Podcast sees Guy Henderson and David Thomas chatting to the manager about the game, the prospect of Horsham at Plainmoor on Saturday, and the near-certainty that at least one new face will have joined United by the time Saturday's game kicks off. Elsewhere, the podcasters chat about a goalkeeper who became a South Devon football legend without ever playing a first team game for Torquay, and a new book that showcases some memorable images of Plainmoor (and Roots Hall) in years gone by. And then there's the Baller League, which turns out not to quite such a young man's game after all. It's all in this week's unmissable Yellow Army Podcast. Come on you Yellows! Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 19-03-26: It's A Players' Game
2026/03/19
So Torquay United have a new manager. It is Jimmy Ball and we hear from the boss as he answers questions from the press in his first conference today at Plainmoor. With Guy Henderson on a jet somewhere flying back to the UK, it was Richard Hughes and David Thomas - the font of all TUFC knowledge - that talked through Ball's appointment, his words, his history, his hopes and dreams for the job. It feels like the start of the new era - and with two huge games coming up on Saturday and Tuesday night, the end of the season is closing in fast. David thinks Jimmy is a good appointment - have a listen to the man talk, and see what you think... Until next week, Come On You Yellow! Learn more about your ad choices. Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 12-03-26: Cakes & Chaos
2026/03/12
Torquay United should have a new manager in place very soon - in fact, possibly before you click on the link to listen to this week's podcast. So those of you in the know - we weren't when we recorded this week's offering. We speculate of course, with a list of names, but we also listen to Neil Warnock talk about the last two games and Saturday's home game against Chesham United - and what any new manager has to do... It was a good performance by a Gulls team low on confidence on Tuesday night when they beat Salisbury 2-1 - after that disappointing 3-0 defeat at Ebbsfleet United. And, with the injury crisis of all injury crises right now - it was a great win to see Neil off with. It's an odd time at Torquay United, that's for sure - so for now, we shall leave you with this pod, until we have a new manager for the next one! Come on you Yellows! Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 05-03-2026: Wotton Out, Warnock In
2026/03/05
What a week that was! Since the last Yellow Army Podcast Torquay United have been beaten 5-0 at home by Chelmsford and have lost a manager. So a lot to discuss then for Richard Hughes, Guy Henderson, David Thomas and Clive Hayward. With Paul Wotton losing his job on Sunday, the quartet reflect on a tumultuous couple of days that saw Neil Warnock come in to take charge of the team for the game against Farnborough on Tuesday. That ended 2-2 but there wasn't much of an improvement in the players' performance - and we hear what the interim manager had to say about that, and the forthcoming game against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday. Once again, the podders are in the old boardroom and the fridges are loud - but that just adds to the buzz that is already about Plainmoor these days. It's never dull at good old Torquay United, that's for sure... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Torquay United Yellow Army 26-02-26: Not All Sunshine And Rainbows
2026/02/26
Torquay United manager Paul Wotton said it in his press conference - "It's not all sunshine and rainbows" right now, after the Gulls have picked up just one point from four games. The 3-1 defeat at Worthing was the latest kick in the teeth. But with eight of the remaining 13 games left, Torquay can still do better this season and the promotion race is not over yet. Dorking Wanderers may lead the way by nine points, but - with Chelmsford City visiting this Saturday - the Gulls are certainly not out of it yet. Richard Hughes returns to join Guy Henderson and David Thomas in the old boardroom where the fridge was as loud as the wind against the window. We hear from the manager in his press conference tell us about the injury crisis that the squad finds itself in again - and the podcasters talk through his options. Then there is Coachgate. The biggest story of the week is explained and mulled over. There's plenty of leg room at this podcast table, so get seated and we'll begin... Learn more about your ad choices. Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 19-02-26: Was It A Penalty? Of Course It Was...
2026/02/19
Torquay United and their long-suffering fans face nearly 900 miles on the road in the coming days. A trip to bottom club Eastbourne Borough on Saturday is swiftly followed by a journey to fellow promotion contenders Worthing on Tuesday night. Players, management, fans and podcasters will have plenty of time on the road to mull over the events on and off the pitch at Plainmoor. This week’s Yellow Army podcast casts an eye back over the 1-1 draw at home to Maidenhead, that penalty decision and what looked like a nasty injury to leading scorer Jordan Young. Paul Wotton, meanwhile, says one of his players may struggle to make the squad on Saturday, but we don’t know which one it will be. Elsewhere on your podcast this week, if you can stay awake until the end, there’s a new job for a familiar Plainmoor face, and an extraordinary night in Wiltshire for one of our other local clubs. Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 12-02-26: The Loan Market
2026/02/12
Loan players dominate the agenda on the Yellow Army Podcast this week as we run the rule over Tuesday night’s ‘bump in the road’ and look ahead to a big day at Plainmoor on Saturday. Torquay United’s seven-match unbeaten run came to an end with a 1-0 defeat at Chippenham Town - a late goal handing the hosts all three points from a game which Torquay dominated. Maidenhead United are the visitors to Plainmoor on Saturday for what will be the first home match since January 17 if the rain holds off. Manager Paul Wotton mulls over Tuesday’s disappointment, and explains how a change in personnel brought better football after the break, but could not supply the goals the Gulls needed to win the game. There’s good news today as Exeter City loanee Kieran Wilson confirms that he will be staying until the end of the season, and we hear how young centre back Ed James - also on loan from the Grecians - can look forward to some game time. Joe Hatch - on loan from Plymouth Argyle - is doing his best to shake off a calf injury and there is news of three Gulls players who are active in the loan market themselves. Sonny Fish is due back from Folkestone after the weekend, but two more Torquay players could be heading out for some minutes on the pitch elsewhere. It’s all in the latest edition of the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast. Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 05-02-26: The Bus? It's Where We Live'
2026/02/05
It never rains, but it pours! For the first quarter of the season, Torquay United couldn’t buy an away win. Now it seems they can’t stop picking up the big points on the road. Tuesday’s 3-2 win at Dover made it nine points from three away games on the trot, hoisting the Gulls to the top of National League South, with second-placed Dorking Wanderers due to visit Plainmoor on Saturday. Excitement will be at fever pitch, if it ever stops raining. This week’s Yellow Army Podcast finds Gulls boss Paul Wotton in buoyant mood, albeit a little sleep-deprived after all those hours on the road. He fills us in on how United have managed to turn that away form around in such dramatic style, and looks forward to Saturday’s huge game. There is, however, some bad news on the injury front, with a key defender likely to be out for a while. There are team changes among the podcasters, too, but there is much to discuss - not least exactly how many times United have come back to win or draw already this season after going behind. Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 29-01-26: The Kieran Question
2026/01/29
After the wash-out that was Tuesday night's postponed home game against Farnborough, Torquay United have a massive trip to National League South leaders Hornchurch on Saturday. It will be a huge game for both clubs and one that could see the Gulls go top if they beat the team they lost 2-1 at home to in November. The Yellow Army podcasters are Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and Clive Hayward this week and they discuss this game, and wonder what team Paul Wotton might pick - given the form of young striker Kieran Wilson, who scored that crucial winner at Enfield Town on Saturday, and the return of Jordan Young from suspension. They also remember a pioneering Gulls fan, Mervo, who set up the first Torquay United presence online back in the 1990s, and we talk about a plastic pint pot that ended up flying through the air at Enfield. As usual, there is so much more too. So click and play the original TUFC podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 22-01-26: Seeing Red
2026/01/22
After that tough game against Maidstone United on Saturday, in which there were three red cards, two of them shown to Torquay United players, the Yellow Army Podcast gets to grips with exactly what happened. Guy Henderson, Richard Hughs and David Thomas talk about that game and the two forthcoming matches at Enfield Town on Saturday and at home against Farnborough next Tuesday. We hear from manager Paul Wotton at his latest press conference and we talk about Big Nev, remembering a glorious couple of years for the legendary goalkeeper at Plainmoor. Then there is Richard's article this week about a certain Maidstone player who took the Michael, a bit; and David's about the departing kit man.
