Patreon Is our conception of modern Fitness really just a colonizers long game plan for everyone to look like an old British white man from the 1800s? It might be. Move over Goop an old timey British man already cornered the market. Join me for one of my favorite conversations yet. Do I say that about everyone? They’re all so great, but this book was everything I’m interested in, and more, which means, I hope it’s everything that you’re interested in. We touch on so many topics. We’re definitely going to have Conor back on. How did we only briefly touch on yoga’s rough lineage?.. because it would have been a three hour podcast if we had! Share Today I’m speaking with author and self described public intellectual (now my new career goal) Sophie Lewis about her book Enemy Feminisms which is out now in paperback BUT ALSO she has a NEW book of essays which just came out called Femmephilia - which you can order here. This is an absolutely riveting conversation for anyone out there who calls themselves a Feminist. Get ready to lose your monocle and let go of some of your feminist icons. Sophie is ripping the band-aid off so much of glossed over Feminist history, our perception of how liberated women came to be, and introduces us to some truly incredible characters; replete with costume changes, perpetual monocles and irreconcilable droves of ‘savages’ who carry them about. It’s a fascinating ride through our history of leaning in, out and all over the place. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! If you missed our first conversation on her incredible memoir, Home is Where We Start, listen to it here. Since then, I've visited Susanna and her family in Brittany, become fast friends, and I'm delighted to share her newest book, a work of fiction, The Orange Notebooks. This is a powerful conversation on processing grief, love, and making space for these huge experiences in a world that has long since abandoned the communal rituals that used to contain them. Life does leave it’s mark on us, The Orange Notebooks beautifully describes this and leaves us battered but better for it. Accessible Alchemy with Professional Witch, Sarah Potter
2026/03/11
You can now view the video version of Busy Body on Patreon! Support us HERE for as little as $5/mo! I first heard Sarah Potter as a guest on the podcast Scared All the Time, the absolutely only time you'll catch me listening to two white men talking! I was struck by how easily and accessibly she discussed all manner of what is typically described as 'woo woo'. As someone who believes in what we can’t see as much as what we can, I reached out to have her on Busy Body to discuss the aspects of our lives that are the least explainable. This was a really fun episode (that ends with a live tarot reading!) and Sarah Potter is a true light. Her book, Sober Magic, is out now and she's also doing lots of live events in the NYC area. Don't miss her! Connect with Sarah Potter here and book readings with her here Subscribe to her weekly tarotscopes here Every episode and essay takes hours of effort. Knowing you’re out there reading and listening makes it all feel worth it! Please ‘like’ share comment or review! I'm thrilled to have Lauren Fleshman on the pod today (wooo!) Lauren Fleshman is one of the most highly decorated professional runners in the US. She is also an award winning author. Her book, Good For A Girl, was a life changer for me. I had the supreme joy of joining one of her WILDER retreats this fall in the French Alps (!) where she led us as we ran, wrote and surpassed ourselves every day. Today we talk about running, women in sports and the multitude of pressures that come with athletics. I learned so much just in this convo! I hope you do too. Please remember to like, comment, share and subscribe wherever you get your pods - it actually really makes an impact on getting this pod to new listeners! You can buy Lauren's book HERE Connect with her HERE See more of her work and retreats HERE We also referenced Christine Yu, her book Up To Speed, and my conversation with Christine on THIS EPISODE . Patience Becomes Trust w/ Rachel Spurrier
2025/09/17
So pleased to have Coach Rachel on again to talk about running, the patience it takes to create a consistent running practice and the difference between being obsessed with metrics versus learning to trust our own bodies and journey. Very much the ethos of our Coaching Program, Virtual Run Club - now on Early Bird Sale till Oct 6th - We start Running October 13th! Trusting our body comes with time and experience. In this episode we hear about the ten year journey that took Rachel from someone intimidated by marathons to logging so many she’s lost count. We share insights and some pretty astounding experiences from our recent running adventures. Rachel just came in 2nd overall and 1st in her age group (in her early 40’s 🔥) in her longest yet Ultra Race and I just came back from 5 days hiking and running the French Alps with the Wilder Running Retreat. Pretty epic! And pretty exhausting (for me at least)! Spoiler alert age is not a barrier in stamina sports! I hope you’ll find this conversation as inspiring as I did! (I definitely went running right after recording - pretty irresistible after hearing Rachel’s journey!) If you are not already a paid subscriber please consider it! These episodes cost $ to produce and A LOT of time to create. In addition the essays I write usually take me up to 2 weeks to write, edit etc… that’s a lot of work and I believe people should be paid for their work ( especially women 🔥) a monthly subscription is only $7 and it means so much to have your support. Thank you ❤️ Virtual Run Club is an inclusive running club, all levels and abilities are welcome. If you’re looking for support, structure, and help with consistency, this group is for you! Mad Haters; Adventures in Wellness-Land with writer, author Cecile Simmons
2025/07/16
I was first introduced to Cecile Simmons from her essay on being an expert on wellness misinformation and yet falling down a rabbit hole of social media fueled wellness trends even as she knew she was being duped. After that I was hooked (relatable!). We talk about the upsetting relationship between wellness, misinformation/disinformation and politics.
