From inbox to income: How Email Turns Visibility Into Clients
2026/04/08
What's the real engine behind turning online visibility into paying clients? According to email marketing expert Minal Patel, it's not your social media following — it's your email list.
In this episode, LinkedIn expert Louise Brogan sits down with Minal for a wide-ranging, practical conversation about everything email marketing: how to build a list from scratch, how often to send, single vs. double opt-in, writing subject lines, improving deliverability, and — crucially — how to actually sell through email without feeling sleazy about it.
Whether you're a solo service provider who's been putting off pressing send, or a business owner sitting on a dormant list, this episode is packed with honest, no-fluff advice to help you show up consistently in your subscribers' inboxes and convert that trust into revenue.
About the GuestMinal Patel is an email marketing strategist with over 12 years in the industry, including four years at Constant Contact. For the past decade she has run her own business, Marketing by Minal, helping solo and small service providers build confident, consistent email systems they can manage themselves. She works primarily with coaches and consultants who want to turn their email lists into a genuine sales channel.

Episode Highlights & Key Takeaways1. Email is where sales actually happenSocial media is borrowed land — you're at the mercy of the algorithm. Your email list is an asset you own. Louise is direct: most of her sales come from email, not social. If you're not building a list, you're building on sand.
2. Single opt-in wins — ditch the doubleWhen someone fills in your sign-up form, they've already given permission. Adding a second confirmation step creates friction at the exact moment interest is highest. If the very next email they receive isn't the thing they signed up for, you've already lost them. Manal's verdict: double opt-in is a waste of time.
3. Frequency matters less than consistencyOnce a week is a solid benchmark — but the most important thing is setting expectations upfront and sticking to them. If you tell people you'll email on Tuesdays, email on Tuesdays. Surprises break trust.
4. Your open rates are probably wrongApple Mail privacy settings pre-open emails to check for malicious links. Corporate IT firewalls click every link in an email. This means open rates and click rates are significantly inflated. Most email platforms now offer bot-suppression — turn it on. A lower number that's accurate is more useful than a high number that isn't.
5. Three or fewer links per emailClick rates drop sharply after three links. If you want people to take one action — join a waiting list, register for a webinar, download a resource — give them one link. One ask, one link.
6. Don't be afraid to sell in your emailsMinal didn't sell in email for the first five to six years of her business — and people kept asking how to work with her. The lesson: if you don't tell your list what you offer, they can't buy it. Be clear on what you're offering, what it solves, and what they need to do next.
7. Email and Substack / LinkedIn newsletters aren't competing — they're complementaryUse your email list to drive traffic to long-form content elsewhere. Not everyone who follows you on LinkedIn subscribes to your newsletter, and not everyone on your email list will find your Substack. Use each channel to feed the others.
8. Replies are goldWhen subscribers reply to your emails, it signals to email providers that you're a trusted sender. It improves deliverability. And it's just a lovely thing. Create emails that invite replies — ask questions, share opinions, be human.

You’re Posting on LinkedIn — But It’s Not Turning Into Anything
2026/01/14
Today, we're diving into the nitty-gritty of creating content for LinkedIn, and I've got some solid insights to share.
The key takeaway?
Content on LinkedIn isn’t about performing; it’s about teaching and starting conversations.
If you've ever felt that creating posts is a struggle, you're not alone, and it’s probably because you’re trying to impress rather than connect.
Instead of broadcasting to a crowd, think about writing for one specific person—let's call her Sarah—who needs your help. I’ll walk you through frameworks that transform your posts into engaging, helpful content that resonates with your audience, helping you break free from the overthinking trap that so often holds us back. Let's get into it!
Creating content for LinkedIn can often feel like a daunting task, especially when we think we need to impress a massive audience.
Louise breaks down this misconception by emphasizing that content should be about teaching, not performing. She shares her insights on how to shift our mindset from trying to entertain or impress others to genuinely helping them.
By focusing on the needs of our audience—asking ourselves what they want to learn rather than how we appear—we can create more meaningful connections and conversations on LinkedIn. Louise encourages us to think of one specific person when crafting our content, which not only simplifies the process but also makes it more relatable and impactful.
This approach not only alleviates the pressure of needing to be perfect but also fosters genuine interactions that can lead to business opportunities. Throughout the episode, Louise introduces several frameworks for content creation that center around teaching and sharing valuable insights.
These frameworks include the Lesson Post, the Process Post, and the Mistake Post, each designed to help us articulate our experiences and knowledge in ways that are beneficial to our audience.
By sharing our lessons learned, actionable processes, and even our mistakes, we not only establish credibility but also create content that resonates with others. Ultimately, Louise's message is clear: the key to engaging content lies in our willingness to share knowledge and experiences that can genuinely help others, rather than performing for likes and validation.
Takeaways:
In today's episode, we discussed how creating content on LinkedIn should focus on teaching instead of performing, which can help alleviate the pressure many feel when sharing their insights.Instead of aiming to reach a large audience, we should concentrate on starting meaningful conversations with one person at a time to foster genuine connections.By addressing the specific needs and questions of our audience, we can create content that is not only relatable but also provides real value to our network.I shared several content frameworks that can guide you through creating engaging posts, such as lesson posts, process posts, mistake posts, and observation posts, each serving a unique purpose. One of the biggest barriers to posting on LinkedIn is overthinking; instead of questioning the quality of our content, we should focus on whether it helps someone in need.Lastly, I emphasized that our goal should be to help others through our content, making it a conversation rather than a performance, which is key to building a strong online presence.

I Bought the Courses — So Why Do I Still Feel Stuck?
2026/01/07
This week, we’re diving into the fascinating shift happening in the online course industry, spotlighting Amy Porterfield's recent decision to close her Digital Course Academy. As we unpack this change, we explore how more entrepreneurs are gravitating towards community and accountability rather than solitary course completion.
I’ve seen this trend myself in my own business, where I’m focusing more on intimate group learning experiences that foster engagement and support.
We also chat about the importance of staying aware of what’s happening in our industries and how that can influence our own strategies for growth.
So, grab your snow shovels—or just a cozy drink—and let’s get into the nitty-gritty of evolving business models and the joy of doing what we love!
Louise opens the discussion with a light-hearted anecdote about the recent snowfall, which provided a rare opportunity for her family to build snowmen. This cheerful moment sets the tone for a deeper conversation about the evolving landscape of online business coaching, particularly in the realm of LinkedIn and digital courses.
Drawing from her experiences, Louise reflects on the recent announcement by Amy Porterfield regarding the closure of her popular Digital Course Academy. This pivot reflects a broader trend in the online education space, where more entrepreneurs are seeking personalized support rather than traditional course formats.
Louise emphasizes the importance of community and accountability, noting that her own accelerator program is filling up as more people seek guidance in their business journeys.
As she draws parallels between her journey and Amy's, Louise invites listeners to consider how they can also adapt and thrive in their industries by paying attention to the shifts happening around them.
Transitioning into the heart of the episode, Louise discusses the significance of adaptation in business. She highlights Amy's new focus on helping established female entrepreneurs scale their revenues, a move she finds particularly interesting. Louise has been following Amy's work since 2017 and feels a resonance with this shift towards collaborative growth. She believes that the online space is moving away from solitary learning and towards community-driven success.
This insight resonates deeply, especially as Louise reflects on her own experiences with past programs that didn’t quite meet her expectations. Sharing how she values small group interactions, Louise underscores her commitment to providing a supportive environment for her clients, which she believes is crucial for long-term success.
As the episode concludes, Louise encourages listeners to actively engage with their networks and observe the changes and innovations within their industries. She stresses the importance of continuous learning and adaptation, using her own business evolution as a case study.

LinkedIn Lovin': How to Make Your Content Work for You
2025/11/17
We're diving into the exciting world of leveraging LinkedIn and video to boost your business visibility. Today, I’m sharing insights from my recent group program, where we’ve been exploring how to make your content work harder for you through my COPE methodology—Create Once, Publish Everywhere. Not only are we talking about the importance of knowing your ideal client, but I’m also sharing real-world strategies that have been generating fantastic feedback from participants. We’ll discuss tools that can streamline your content creation process, making sure it serves you rather than the other way around. Plus, I’ll spill some beans about my recent adventures in Boston, where I’m soaking up the local culture (and maybe a donut or two!). Join me for actionable tips that can transform your approach to online visibility!
Boston, COPE & Donuts: How to Make Your LinkedIn Content Work Harder
Episode SummaryIn this special on-the-road episode, Louise records from Boston, Massachusetts, sharing insights from Week 3 of her LinkedIn Profile Optimisation Programme.
She introduces the COPE methodology — Create Once, Publish Everywhere — and explains how to make your LinkedIn content work harder, not longer. Louise also reveals a surprising discovery about LinkedIn’s algorithm and why it’s starting to behave more like YouTube than Facebook.
Plus, she teases an upcoming deep dive into webinars — one of her most effective strategies for turning LinkedIn connections into email subscribers and clients.
And yes… there’s also talk of Dunkin’ Donuts, friendly Bostonians, and how to make your content as satisfying as a Boston cream.
🗝️ What You’ll LearnWhat COPE really means: How to repurpose one piece of content into multiple formats and platforms. Why your ideal client matters most: How to write for one person, not everyone. How to make your LinkedIn content timeless: Why posts from five years ago are resurfacing — and what that means for your strategy. How to solve real problems with your content: The shift from “what you want to say” to “what your audience needs to hear.”Which AI tools to try: Descript, Gamma, and ChatGPT — and how to use them without getting overwhelmed. Why webinars work: How they help you pull engaged followers off LinkedIn and onto your email list.
🧭 Key TakeawaysCreate once, publish everywhere. Focus on getting more mileage from your best ideas instead of constantly creating new ones.Your content should work for you, not the other way around.LinkedIn is evolving. Older, relevant posts can resurface — so focus your topics on what you want to be known for.Action trumps theory. Thinking time during calls (and in your own workflow) helps you implement what you learn.Don’t fear AI. Use it to save time and amplify your voice, not replace it.
