🎙️ Welcome back to the award-winning The Scarf Bergara Wore – the original Stockport County fan podcast! ⚪️💙 Russ and Waggie are joined by regular fan guest Wrighty to talk through all things County, with a little England chat thrown in for good measure. Then we get straight into it… County have been charged by the FA under Rule E21 following the pitch invasion during the second leg of last season’s playoff game against Stevenage. But what does that actually mean? We read out the charge from the FA and discuss why we’ve been charged for this one when we’ve had plenty of other pitch invasions over the years during times of absolute joy. What could it mean for the club, and just how big a fine do we think County could potentially be facing? We then turn our attention to Shrewsbury 0-2 County in the EFL Trophy. There were 10 changes from the last league game, with a ‘second string’ County side taking on a similarly rotated Shrewsbury team. Seven academy players featured, so we talk through their performances, the standout players and the continued signs of McNulty Ball. It was also great to see Adigun and Gardner get themselves on the scoresheet. We also discuss the surprising additions of Rydel and Mingi to the substitutes’ bench and use County Squad Tracker to try and clear up exactly why they were there! County Women smashed Bradford 8-0, another huge win against a side who started the game on the same number of points. We look at the result, the teams around them in the division and how the County Women now find themselves sitting 4th in the league. So, why are County being tipped as promotion favourites? Most of the bookies now have us as favourites to win the league, having been around 7/8 before the start of the season. What’s changed? Why are the bookies suddenly so convinced? All three of us give our thoughts on where we think County will finish and why it is in the Top 2! We then look ahead to Barnsley and have a discussion based around Steve’s Preview Pod about what we can expect from a young Barnsley side, how they are likely to play and how County can get around them. Of course, we also give our own score predictions, along with plenty of predictions and opinions from those tuned in. We have another go at Rival until we get some better suggestions, the football app that gives us a random historic game involving County. This time it’s Barnet at home in 2006. 🎙️ Welcome back to the award-winning The Scarf Bergara Wore – the original Stockport County fan podcast! ⚪️💙 Russ is back in the hot seat once more, joined as always by Waggie, and this week we’re joined by Steve from NK Electricals, regular match-ball sponsor and County’s 'Electrician' As always, we’ve got plenty to talk about, starting with the nil-nil draw away at Sheffield Wednesday. With Russ watching from the ground, Waggie and Steve watching on the telebox, we get the 2 different views of the game. Was it a good point or two points dropped? A clean sheet is always welcome, and with County having three times as many shots as Wednesday (18 to 6), with both sides only managed two on target, is this another game we should have won? Or is that particular saying starting to get a little tired? We also look at how we’d feel if the season continues with the win-loss-win-loss pattern, with the occasional draw thrown in. What needs to change for us to become more consistent? We also discuss a great full debut for Jobe, who came into the side for a poorly Pye. Does he stay in or not? We then look ahead to the first of three straight home games, with Peterborough the visitors to Edgeley Park. Russ is apprehensive after Peterborough sacked their manager and could potentially have an 18-year-old centre-back and a 16-year-old centre-back playing, while Waggie is, obviously, positive about the result. Steve sits somewhere in the middle, so we’ve got all bases covered! We also have a chat about matchday rituals and discover just how different Steve’s is to Russ and Waggie's. Working on matchdays means Steve is around the ground roughly four hours before kick-off, giving him a very different experience and a lot more checks to complete with everything becoming increasingly digital, some interesting details in there as well. Waggie is in the hot seat this week with Russ away, meaning Steve gets to monopolise all the pods! We’re also joined by fan debutant (sort of) Shazz, aka Paul from Stockport Gin. There’s plenty to get stuck into after the brilliant, chaotic 3–4 defeat to Leicester. We talk about the obvious concern at the back and whether conceding so many goals is becoming a problem, but also the other side of the equation — McNulty Ball has County looking like they can score every time they go forward. Can we really keep playing with that style and intensity for the whole season? We then look ahead to Saturday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday. Can County bounce back? What have we made of Wednesday’s start to the season, how do we beat them and should Dave Challinor make changes or stick with what we know? After eight games, County sit on four wins and four defeats, with 16 goals scored and 10 conceded. We take a quick look at what those numbers tell us and ask whether County need to find a bit more consistency — and, most importantly, how we tighten things up without losing the attacking threat. There’s also a brief discussion about the competition formerly known as the Vertu Trophy, which has apparently been renamed. We’re calling it the Magic Mike Trophy. Obviously. With the international break approaching, we also discuss who might get called up, whether international selections could lead to games being postponed and whether County might actually get a weekend off.
