Your Teen Won't Talk to You? You Might Be Solving the Wrong Problem
2026/09/29
What's something you really want to be able to talk to your teenager about? Phones? Dating? Friends? Lying? School? I hear some version of this question from moms all the time: "How do I talk to my teenager about this?" But there's a question that comes BEFORE that one: Does your teenager want to talk to you in the first place? In this episode, I'm breaking down the difference between knowing WHAT you want to talk about and having the skills to create the kind of conversation where your teenager actually keeps talking. Because this isn't necessarily an effort problem. It may be a skill problem. And that's good news, because skills can be learned, practiced, and sharpened. We'll talk about why awareness alone isn't enough, how your past conversations don't have to predict your future conversations, and the roadmap I use inside my Trusted Method to help moms move toward more confidence, better conversations, and stronger connection with their teenagers. And I'll help you figure out which next step fits where you are right now: If your teenager already talks to you but you want to feel more confident talking about the HARD stuff, my Teen Topic Toolkit is coming soon. 💌 Join my Bestie Club and you'll be the first to hear about it: Join here: https://newsletter.kristenduke.com/  If your teenager has stopped opening up, gives you one-word answers, gets defensive, rolls their eyes, or retreats to their room, start with the Trusted Lab Workshop. 🎟️ Join the next Trusted Lab: (It's October 8th!) https://lab.kristenduke.com Because before you can have better conversations about the hard things, you need to build the bridge that makes those conversations possible.
What If You're Trying TOO Hard to Help Your Teenager?
2026/09/01
You love your teenager. So when they come to you with a problem, of course you want to help. But what if all that helping is actually making it harder for your teenager to talk to you, and harder for them to build confidence in themselves? In this episode, I'm challenging the belief that being a good mom means giving your teenager the answers they need. Because your teenager doesn't just need good answers from you. They need opportunities to discover that they can find answers themselves. We'll talk about why immediately reassuring your teenager isn't always confidence-building, what can happen when you unintentionally start thinking FOR them, and how your loving attempts to help can change their experience of talking to you. And I'll give you one question to start asking yourself: Am I helping my teenager think, or am I doing the thinking for them? Because you don't want your teenager dependent on you for every answer. But you don't want disconnection either. You want to become someone your teenager feels safe thinking out loud WITH. Maybe the thing that needs to change isn't your teenager's willingness to talk. Maybe it's the pattern that happens when they do. If you want help seeing the patterns happening between you and your teenager that may be creating distance—even when you're trying to create closeness, join me for the Trusted Lab workshop on September 9th. → https://lab.kristenduke.com/  You can't do different until you SEE different.
The Relationship You're Building with your Teen Before They Leave Home
2026/08/25
One day, your teenager gets to decide how much of their life you're part of. That can feel terrifying, especially when they're already pulling away, talking less, or becoming more independent. But staying close to your teenager isn't about holding on tighter. In this episode, I'm sharing what raising four teenagers has taught me about letting go without losing the relationship, why independence doesn't mean they need you less, and what we can do now to build the kind of relationship they'll want to carry into adulthood. We'll talk about the difference between being involved and being available, why trying harder to stay close can sometimes create more distance, and how to keep the bridge between you strong as your role begins to change. Because the goal isn't to raise a teenager who has to include you. It's to build a relationship they keep choosing when they no longer have to. WORKSHOP: https://lab.kristenduke.com/

Is Guilt Quietly Parenting Your Teenager?
2026/07/29
Most moms don't realize how many of their parenting decisions are driven by guilt. "I yelled yesterday, so I should let this go." "I've been working too much, so I need to make it up to them." "They're upset... maybe I should back off." It feels loving. It feels responsible. But what if guilt is actually keeping you stuck? In today's episode, we're unpacking why guilt isn't a parenting strategy, and why the healthiest moms aren't the ones who never feel guilty, but the ones who know what to do after guilt shows up. You'll learn why guilt is like a dashboard warning light, what it's really trying to tell you, and how to stop letting it sit in the driver's seat of your parenting. In this episode: Why guilt is information, not transformation The surprising cost of guilt-driven parenting How guilt steals confidence, consistency, and peace The difference between guilt and genuine growth A simple mindset shift that can change the way you parent Ready for the next step? If you've been feeling like you're losing your teenager, I want to personally invite you to The Trusted Workshop. This live 70-minute workshop will help you stop guessing what's wrong and start understanding what's really happening beneath your teenager's behavior. You'll leave with practical shifts you can begin using immediately to rebuild trust and connection.  Save your seat here: [Workshop Link] It's the best $27 you'll spend all week, and one of the most valuable investments you can make in your relationship with your teenager.
Why Trying Harder Isn't Working (And What To Do Instead)
2026/07/22
You've read the books. Listened to the podcasts. Prayed. Researched. Promised yourself you'd stay calmer next time. And yet somehow, you and your teenager keep ending up back in the same fight. In this episode, I'm sharing why more effort isn't the answer, and what actually is. Using a story from a mom I recently worked with and an analogy that's stuck with me for years, we're breaking down the one belief that keeps so many moms stuck in the same cycle with their teens. If you're tired of trying harder and wondering why it still feels so hard, this episode is for you. In this episode: Why effort alone doesn't fix conflict with your teenager The one shift that changed everything for a mom who'd been struggling for over a year A simple analogy that will change how you think about "trying harder" Ready to find your own blind spot? I'm offering a free 20-minute Conversation Audit, where we'll uncover one pattern that's making conversations with your teenager harder than they need to be, and I'll give you one shift you can start making immediately. I'm only taking 3 of these calls right now, once they're filled, they're gone for a while. Book your Conversation Audit here: [https://calendly.com/kristenduke/support-call]
What If Your Worry Is Unintentionally Shaping Your Teen's Confidence?
2026/07/09
Have you ever found yourself thinking: "My teenager's confidence is so low." "I've told her a hundred times how amazing she is, but she just doesn't believe me." "I wish he could see what I see in him." If so, this episode might completely change the way you see your role in your teenager's confidence journey. In this episode, I'm sharing one of the biggest parenting blind spots I see in loving, intentional moms: The hidden connection between a mom's fear, worry, and anxiety... and her teenager's confidence. Because sometimes the very things you're doing to help your teen feel more capable are accidentally communicating the opposite. We'll talk about: Why confidence isn't built through more encouragement alone The bike story that changed how I think about parenting What toddlers and teenagers surprisingly have in common The difference between leadership and fear Why your teenager may be borrowing more than your words Most moms think they need support when they're yelling or when things are really bad at home. But what if support isn't for the yelling mom? What if it's for the loving mom... The thoughtful mom... The mom lying awake at night wondering if she's doing enough. The mom carrying responsibilities she was never meant to carry. If that's you, I want you to know: there is another way. The next 30-Day Trusted Reset begins next week, and it was specifically designed to help moms move from fear to steadiness, from reacting to responding, and from carrying everything to leading with confidence. Because awareness is powerful. But awareness alone doesn't break patterns. Practice does. If you're ready to stop trying harder and start practicing differently, I'd love to support you. ➡️ Join the Trusted Reset: [https://reset.kristenduke.com/join] (Code "25" for 25% off through tomorrow 7/10) Questions? I'd genuinely love to hear from you. 📧 Email me: [email protected]  📱 Send me a message on Instagram: @KristenDukeChats And if this episode resonated with you, send it to another mom who loves her teenager and might need this reminder today. You're not failing. You may simply be stuck in a pattern. And patterns can change.
If You Can't Explain What's Wrong, Listen to This
2026/06/30
Have you ever thought, "I don't even know where to start..." when someone asks how things are going with your teenager? If so, you're not alone. In this episode, we're talking about why so many moms feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, and unable to put into words what's happening at home. I'll share the three questions I ask moms that help bring clarity, uncover what's really going on beneath the surface, and identify the patterns keeping them stuck. If you feel you're carrying more than you were ever meant to carry, this episode is for you. If you'd like help getting to the source of what's really happening in your family, I'd love to offer you a free 20-minute consultation. No pressure, just a conversation to help you gain clarity and see what's possible. Reach out to set it up: 💻Zoom consult: pick a time 📱 Text me: [512-809-1740] 📧 Email: [[email protected]] 📸 Instagram: @kristendukechats You don't have to figure it all out alone. Sometimes one conversation is all it takes to finally know where to start. You decide how that conversation starts.
You May Be Trying to Control Something You Were Never Meant to Control with your Teenager
2026/06/23
Are you trying to control something you were never meant to control? If you've ever thought: "My teen won't talk to me." "I've tried everything." "Nothing is working." "Why am I the only one trying?" ...this episode is for you. In today's conversation, I share a personal story about a time I was absolutely convinced I was right, and the surprising lesson my child taught me. I explore how easy it is to cast yourself as the hero, someone else as the villain, and unknowingly give away your power in the process. You'll learn the difference between being powerless and being influential If you're exhausted from carrying the weight of your teenager's choices, future, or behavior, this episode will help you see a different path forward. You may decide you're ready to... 🎉 Join me live on Thursday, June 25, for the Trusted Lab Workshop. In this one-hour training, I'll teach the foundational principles that help moms become steadier, more confident, and more trusted by their teenagers. It's also the perfect opportunity to see whether the 30-Day Trusted Reset might be the next right step for you. 👉 [https://lab.kristenduke.com/] Remember: The problem isn't your teenager. The problem is the pattern. And patterns can change.
