On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to go over the Buffalo Bills 2025 season positionally, followed by Matt's final season-long grades for all areas of the team in an episode recording earlier in the week just before the Joe Brady hire. All season long the guys have gotten together to discuss the Bills previous game position by position with Matt assigning a grade for each. Obviously there's no more games to break down in that style so this is being turned into a season long evaluation of each position---the good, bad and ugly. Some positions certainly turned out to be pleasant surprises. For example who suspected the tight end room would be one of the biggest strengths on the team even with Dalton Kincaid missing time? Or how about Tre White holding down the cornerback spot alongside Christian Benford all season not just admirably (not admiral) but straight up excellent? It wasn't all good though. The defensive line's play was marred by two key injuries, other nagging injuries and a lot of inconsistent play outside of Greg Rousseau. Of course, perhaps the most intriguing position to discuss is quarterback. By almost any other QB's standard Allen had a stellar season, but coming off his MVP campaign of a year ago, will Matt grade him with a curve? All that and tons more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over five of the biggest questions that Buffalo Bills general manager (and President of Operations) Brandon Beane is going to have answer soon as he starts to construct the roster for 2026 under recently promoted first-time head coach Joe Brady. The Bills have been a perennial contender in the AFC since 2019, reaching two conference championship games during that span. But continuing to hit the "proverbial playoff wall" that owner Terry Pegula discussed led to the firing of longtime head coach Sean McDermott and while it hasn't been publicly stated, puts enormous pressure on Beane to make moves this offseason that's going to help them get over the hump because with McDermott gone, failure will (rightfully) fall squarely on Beane going forward. To that point Patrick comes up with five questions that Beane's surely asking himself right now and getting ready to make tough decisions on. Among them is if there's truly a place on the 2026 roster for Keon Coleman that is anything but a negative, who among the offensive line depth is ready to step up and become starters with the probability that at least one if not two incumbent starters will leave for free agency, does Brady lean on Beane to pull of a trade for an alpha WR No. 1 and did Dawson Knox play himself into another year with the club? Switching over to the defense, the Bills have a slew of pending free agents. Between the defense's struggles in Denver, a bunch of guys aging and a new defensive coordinator surely looking to come and change things up, how many of these Bills veterans will be back this season? On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Cover 1's Anthony Prohaska to discuss several Buffalo Bills topics, including new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhart and what his defense may look like for the Bills. Joe Brady was promoted to head coach following a search on the heels of Sean McDermott's firing, but that hardly means it's simply status quo for the Buffalo Bills. Most of Brady's coaching staff will be new to the team and that includes Leonhart, who was highly coveted and also drew strong interest from Baltimore and the Los Angeles Chargers. Anthony shares his opinions of the Bills decision to move on from McDermott, land on Brady and then add Leonhard to run their defense. Anthony explains the primary difference in concepts and philosophy between McDermott and Leonhard and how they're significant. On today's Talking Buffalo, new Buffalo Bills head coach Joe Brady's introductory press conference took place on Thursday and Patrick Moran has a boatload of reactions, including why he came away from it surprisingly (very) impressed. It was a big moment for the direction and future of the franchise with the appointment/promotion of Brady and the press conference had a big moment feel. Brady didn't try to hide it either as he was overcome with emotion during his speech almost instantly, having trouble at times getting out words before he settled into the Q&A portion of the presser, asking a bunch of questions alongside general manager Brandon Beane from the media. Patrick goes over some of the more memorable highlights and quotes from the presser before getting into a handful of things he liked most and a few items he certainly could have done without. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Buffalo Sabres and NHL writer Joe Yerdon to discuss the absolutely scorching hot Buffalo Sabres in addition to a little Buffalo Bills talk as well, recorded live from Sonny Red's in Lackawanna. The Sabres went on the road in Toronto on Tuesday night and smacked the Maple Leafs, 7-4 to win for the 19th time in their last 22 games. If Buffalo hasn't been playing well enough up front, defensemen Rasmus Dahlin netted a hat trick while the incredible transformation of Mattias Samuelsson continued with his racking up three assists. Joe was in Toronto with the team for the game and discusses what the vibe was like the in the arena and in the Buffalo locker room after that. A team that looked absolutely locked into a 15th straight year of the postseason drought finds themselves with an incredible opportunity to finally end it. Joe gets into several of the things he's seen and we've all seen that have made this possible---including a night and day transformation since Keyvn Adams got fired. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has plenty of instant reaction after the Buffalo Bills promote offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach following interviews with several candidates, leaving some people puzzled and clearly most fans annoyed. Some thought the Bills may take their time with this hire  considering it was regarded as the most attractive job available, perhaps even waiting to speak to Seattle offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak after the Super Bowl. But whether it was fear of losing Brady to him taking another job or him really being their guy all along, he's the 21st head coach now in franchise history. One thing's for certain----fans don't like the move. Joe Buscaglia from The Athletic put up a poll and nearly three quarters of all fans who voted, well over 13,000 in the first hour said they didn't like the move. Patrick shares a few other hilarious (or maybe not funny to some) social media reactions from content creators and fans. Patrick has plenty of thoughts on the move while prefacing that he's remaining someone guarded with "hot takes" for the moment after the Sean McDermott rage last week. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Buffalo Bills beat reporter Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News to discuss Lance's first year on an eventful Bills beat and how he's seeing the Bills head coaching search play out down the stretch with what appears to be the final four candidates. After coming to Buffalo in 2018 to cover the Sabres, Lance made the pivot this summer over to the Bills beat. He spends some time talking about the adjustments, of which there were many and getting acclimated to covering a different professional sport, something he's actually done prior to coming to Buffalo. He also sheds insight on the media room and reaction from both the Sean McDermott surprise (to most anyway) firing and subsequent press conference last week that was the talk of the league. They also discuss a column Lance wrote for The Buffalo News on Monday that the Bills would be wise to wait another two weeks to interview Klint Kubiak for their head coaching job. That said, according to Adam Schefter it appears the Bills are down to their final four candidates and a new coach could be hired within a few days. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by special guest Tyler Dunne of Go Long to discuss several Buffalo Bills topics, including some of the biggest reasons why this was  the right time for the organization to move on from now former head coach Sean McDermott. It's been a mess at One Bills Drive since Monday morning when the Bills fired Sean McDermott. From the icy statement towards McDermott with the inexcusable "admiral" typo to radio silence from the team and social media for well over 24 hours before giving McDermott the respect and proper sendoff he deserved. Of course that was nothing compared to the bizzaro press conference on Wednesday with Terry Pegula and Brandon Beane that left many locals shaking their heads and the national media bashing the organization.  However, while the messaging sent out by the team this week was amateurish if not bush league, the move itself was perfectly justifiable if not already overdue. There's a very reasonable case that McDermott deserved the fate he got. One of the best long form and feature story sports writers in the business, Tyler has been on the Bills peaks and valleys with McDermott regularly for the past several years. A polarizing figure among BillsMafia because of several Bills articles, one 2023 series specifically on McDermott, Tyler rightfully stands by everything he's written and while a lot of fans and especially a lot of the ardent McDermott supports don't like it, it's hard to argue that a lot of what Dunne's been saying and has said isn't right. Tyler goes over a handful of reasons that despite this week's blunders in message handling, that it was the right time to move into a new direction and that the move shouldn't really be as shocking as many have made it out to be. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Tim Graham from The Athletic to react to an absolutely wild press conference featuring Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula and general manager Brandon Beane that's drawing strong reaction locally and around the league. A season-ending press conference featuring Beane would be anticipated in any season. The fact former head coach Sean McDermott was fired on Monday definitely heightened it, and Pegula speaking and taking questions for the first time in years instantly made it must see. What we saw felt like a blend of honestly, contradicting statements and a few shocking moments. Tim was at the presser covering it for The Athletic and Patrick grills him for with a ton of questions on several statements said. Pegula says his decision to fire McDermott was based on Saturday's loss in Denver and the reaction in the locker room, but soon after accused the officials of making a "bad call" that cost them the game. Beane also took offense, great offense to questions about making a powerplay to keep his job and about his character----a charged response. Perhaps the most shocking part of the presser was Beane, when asked discussing some of the challenges with draft picks that haven't worked out when Pegula interrupted to publicly say that the Keon Coleman pick was not Brandon Beane's choice but Beane was being a "team player." On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by popular podcaster Bruce Nolan to go over several thoughts on the heels of the shocking firing of now former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott on Monday. The prevailing sentiment following the Bills latest disappointing exit from the playoffs was that both McDermott and Brandon Beane would likely be safe, with Beane probably the more likely to get fired if owner Terry Pegula pulled the trigger on the move. However, turns out it was McDermott getting fired with Beane not only keeping his job, but getting a promotion along the way. Patrick and Bruce have a ton of thoughts on this franchise altering development. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss the Buffalo Bills heartbreaking overtime playoff loss in Denver, with the defeat serving up some indictments on the organization that may (or may not) lead to changes. The Bills fell on the wrong side of history in depressing fashion, becoming the first team in NFL history to be eliminated from the playoffs three consecutive seasons by three points or less. This time a lot of the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of Josh Allen, who uncharacteristically played awful. Allen turned the ball over four times and three of them were his fault. He also missed some very makable throws, including a ball to Dawson Knox on the Bills last offensive snap of regulation that would've won the game. The guys discuss how disappointing it is for someone as talented and valuable as Josh to play so poorly. Officiating was clearly at the forefront of this one too. The guys discuss whether they think Brandin Cooks should've been ruled as having caught the ball and a few other terrible calls that went against the Bills. They also discuss several other factors that Patrick feel serves as indictments against both Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane. Will it lead to any changes? Also, how much does this loss and playoff exit hurt more than the others? On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a full preview of Saturday's AFC Divisional round clash as the Buffalo Bills take on the Denver Broncos, including a discussion on the state of both teams, four keys to a Bills victory, five "bold predictions" for the game and a stab at predicting the final score. After knocking off Jacksonville last weekend, the Bills take to the road again trying to advance to the conference championship. To do that they'll have overcome many things, none so more than injuries that'll keep a few important players out and others are far less than 100%. Denver is fresh off a bye earned by being the top seed and there's several things Bills fans should be worried about with them. However, there's also areas of the team that can be exploited, as Patrick gives his lowdown on each team. From there it's Patrick's four biggest keys to the Bills finding a way to come out on top, none so more important, as usual than not losing the turnover battle. After last week the Bills remained undefeated when not losing the turnover battle. Also, having early down success and weathering the storm will be huge keys. Five bold predictions is always fun, at least it is when the Bills win and Patrick is right. Among his today is a successful return for Curtis Samuel, who's been a huge bust this season. Also, can Taron Johnson make us forget about a forgettable season with one big fourth quarter play? Patrick seems to think so.
