Special Guest: Dion Lack @LacktoastEnt
On this episode of TIP, we sit down with Comedian, Actor, Writer, Film Director and Dayton, Ohio native Dion Lack. We first start off our conversation with a wild, but entertaining and interesting story from Dion about his first ever appearance on television doing stand-up comedy performing on the legendary TV show “Comic view”. Dion recalls how his first time on television doing comedy, he was only a year into doing stand-up comedy professionally and he really got lucky to have the opportunity. But unfortunately, the opportunity came too soon, because he wasn’t prepared for the moment, nor was he professionally prepared for recording his set on television. He goes on into details, letting us know that his episode never got aired because he did an impromptu set live, rather than the original set that got him booked to be on the show in the first place. With that being Dion’s first introduction to Hollywood and television, it was a rude awakening. As well as a reality check that he wasn’t in Dayton, Ohio anymore and now he’s in the big leagues of Los Angeles and the entertainment business. After reminiscing on that horrific introduction to stand-up comedy, we take a trip down memory lane and talk about what it was like for Dion growing up in Dayton Ohio. Dion let us know the Dayton was in an impoverished area in Ohio that was located where Dayton University was, but was a place that was a lot of fun for him growing up in this community. He expressed how he always knew as well as others in the community knew that he was going to be an entertainer. Mainly because he was the guy in all of his educational institutions while he attended, who took on the title as “Class Clown”. Even though Dion was a football player and eventually went to school for football, it was entertainment, and comedy that gradually came back to him and eventually got him to move with his aunt all the way in Los Angeles. Because he was able to move with his aunt in Los Angeles, that gave him the confidence and the audacity to not only believe in his dreams, but pursue them whole heartedly. To the point that he just knew he was going to get discovered as a big star. So he took it upon himself to buy a huge oversize suit and walk up and down Hollywood Boulevard in hopes of being discovered as a star. Like usual, our listeners are definitely in for a treat, and like alway this is one you do not want to miss! So sit back and enjoy the crazy world of The Tune’d In Podcast. Yay! Yay!

On this episode of TIP, we sit down with a multitalented performing artist who is a trained professional dancer, choreographer, visual artist, and creative director, by the name of Raphael Thomas a.k.a. The Sandman. We first start our conversation with Raphael, talking about where he grew up and how he grew up, and his Jamaican roots as well as his childhood growing up in Neptune, New Jersey. Raphael tells us how he had a very normal but supportive childhood as he was constantly put into creative outlets by his parents since he was five years old. He goes on to explain how he started in tap dance, then eventually transitioned into a ballet dancer, where he honed his skills as a performing artist, and then later became a professional dancer. Raphael emphasizes how the support of his parents played such a pivotal role in his advancement in his career, because they were always pushing him to be the best version of himself. Due to his support system and the environment that he was in, he was able to not only excel, but stand out amongst peers and be able to pursue other opportunities in the performing arts. To the point that he was able to go to Harlem at only 12 years old to be a part of a very prestigious and upper echelon program taught by a world renowned black instructor in the form of ballet dancing. We later to go on to talk about how the trials and tribulations of being a dancer can either make you or break you physically and spiritually. He talks about the time he tore his meniscus during a performance, and it crushed his spirits and his motivation. But his mother being the spiritual and holistic, Jamaican woman that she is, made sure to keep his spirits high and to get him back to not only full health and strength, but in mode to believe that anything is possible with proper preparation and faith. The conversation is inspiring in many different ways, as Raphael talks about how he not only travels the world with some of the most famous artist in the music industry, but also had random opportunities that fell into his lap that allowed him to leave a legendary mark on a historical community like Harlem, Nee York. Special Guest: 99 Wayne Mike
On this episode of TIP, we sit down with a Los Angeles native by the name of “Mike” who is the owner and creator of the Los Angeles based media platform “99 Wayne”. We first start our conversation off by discussing with Mike what it was like for him growing up here in Los Angeles. He lets us know as a Los Angeles native that Los Angeles was a very exciting and premiere time to be a teenager and a Los Angeles native in the early 2000s. Mike talks about how he grew up in the Inglewood area and how growing up in that area could be deemed tough for people who weren’t natives of Los Angeles, but for him he was able to navigate through having a two parent household and a solid father figure in his life. Mike also let us know that he was able to have a solid childhood due to his father constantly making sure that he stayed on the right path. And even though some of his friends veered off into the gang culture and gang banging, he was a young man who always stay true to who he was and out of the street life. When asked why he didn’t join gangs or be involved with gang activity, even though he was actively outside, he responded that he knew early in his youth that g******g culture was something that wasn’t for him, and that he didn’t want to find himself down that wrong path with certain individuals. We later go on to discuss about how the party scene in Los Angeles was completely different than it has been in recent times. Mike goes into detail about how the party scene transitioned from typical club parties, skating rink parties, and venue parties, later to be turned into house parties, which are now known as “Kickbacks.” We discussed how the party life changed for Los Angeles natives due to the fact that places like Hollywood was deemed the hotspot for Los Angeles natives when they were in their teenage years. Not only did we talk about how crazy and exciting the night life was, we also discussed how dangerous it could’ve been due to the fact that where certain parties were at, gang activity could erupt at any moment. Outside of the dangers that could come from being on the party scene frequently, Mike found himself building a large network and cultivating quality relationships that will later allow him to be well connected and respected throughout Los Angeles. To the point where he was able to gain momentum as a manager for local Los Angeles artist and build a brand that later would be developed into the “99 Wayne” media platform. Special Guest: SHAM 1016
On this episode of TIP, we sit down with a Los Angeles native who is a Rapper, Creative Director/Film Director, Graphic Designer and Fitness Enthusiast who goes by the name Sham1016. We start our conversation with Sham talking about his upbringing in Los Angeles and what his experience was like. Sham expressed to us that although things were regular and kind of normal to him, unfortunately the way he grew up and the things he saw at a young age wouldn't have been deemed normal to others. Because of Sham's family ties to the gang activity, he was introduced to the harsh realities of life at a young age due to his father and uncles gang affiliation and reputation. He talks about how knowing that his family had strong gang ties and connections, made his reality something that was a bit more serious than the average kid growing up where he grew up at. Although he was well protected and guided by his father, his mother and his family members he had to embrace the harsh realities of the gang life when his father, unfortunately had to go to jail for a long period of time, and his uncle was killed when he was a young boy. That understanding of his life gave him a perspective at a young age of what life was about and what his reality was for him and his family. He goes on to explain that his fitness enthusiasm comes from his father and Uncle’s influence due to the fact they encouraged working out based off of the time that they spent in jail and the fitness program that they advocated for him to be a part of at a very young age. Sham goes on to discuss that although growing up in the hood, it had its trials and tribulations, but he found the joy and the beauty of his section that he grew up in, which helped contribute to his artistic view and creative influences that helped shaped his life as he got older. We then transition our conversation to when Sham gets older and moves off to Fresno, California, where he finished high school there and eventually went to Fresno State University. Sham told us that he left Fresno State University and eventually came back to Los Angeles, where he then ended up going to USC where he found himself going over to Belgium for a study abroad program. Even before going abroad, she revealed to us that he had always been a creative kid which gave him the motivation that he needed to be his own support system. Seeing that he didn’t grow up with any siblings and was pretty much an only child, it was easy for him to embrace his creative and artistic skills. At a point in time in our conversation we later start to discuss how the city of Los Angeles truly molded and shaped Sham's, confidence, and personality to the point he has not only become a staple in the city, but has been a voice of Los Angeles culture when it comes to justifying all the great things that Los Angeles has to offer. Even to the point where he went viral for a video that he did talking about Los Angeles transplants who come to Los Angeles from other states to complain about the things that are happening here in Los Angeles specifically. Like usual, our listeners are definitely in for a treat, and like alway this is one you do not want to miss! So sit back and enjoy the crazy world of The Tune’d In Podcast. Yay! Yay!

Special Guest: PAIGE BRYAN
On this episode of TIP, we sit down with Comedian, Actress and former Musician Paige Bryan. We first start off our conversation talking with Paige about her upbringing and what it was like growing up in the San Fernando Valley. From how it was difficult for her to fit into her environment, to then at the time her and her family being one of the only black families in a predominantly white neighborhood. Paige expressed that even though she grew up in the valley, she would spend most of her time in Ladera Heights with her black friends and would find herself at the Fox Hills Mall almost every weekend due to the fact that majority of her friends lived in LA. We talked about how growing up in the valley was a privilege for her that she was aware of, but even though she was more fortunate to be away from the struggles of inner city Los Angeles, LA culture has away of influencing all the natives who lived in neighboring areas outside of the city. Now for Paige, her life was a bit more interesting than the average valley girl, due to the fact she is the daughter of a very famous, well-respected and legendary Comedian by the name of "Sinbad". With her being the daughter of such an iconic and glorified celebrity, we tried to gather what her experience was growing up with him as her father and what sense of normalcy she had. Paige went on to express to us that, she had a regular upbringing as far as she knew it, because her father had been famous all her life so the things that transpired for her were regular until she was older and made aware of the difference between her fathers status in society, compared to other peoples parents. But she also reiterated that, being from the valley or LA in general, allows the natives to have a nonchalant demeanor when it comes to celebrities because its kind of a normal thing to either know someone who is famous, or be related to someone who is famous due to the overwhelming amount of people who are actually celebrities in LA. We go one to discuss that because of who her father was, it was difficult for her to make genuine friends and still til this day it's difficult for her to trust people and their intentions due to the fact that people can just be opportunist and only want to get close to her for a upgrade in their own social status. We later switch gears to discuss how she also comes from a musical background as well as a comedic one. She explains that not only was her father a musician, but both her parents were very active in the church as well as her grandfather being a pastor, which allowed her to explore here musical and creative talents through praise and worship. Although music was Paige's first love, it was comedy that eventually stole her heart and gave her a different passion and desire for entertainment. Paige goes on to explain how her comedy journey hasn't been easy despite the reputation of her father. According to Paige, she says she is constantly prejudged and assumed to have everything set out for her and is given the easy route to success due to others assumption of nepotism. But Paige goes on record to let it be known that she doesn't use her fathers name as a crutch for her to skip the line or avoid criticism, as she choices to step into rooms as herself and build a name and brand strictly off her talent and hard work alone. Like usual, our listeners are definitely in for a treat, and like alway this is one you do not want to miss! So sit back and enjoy the crazy world of The Tune’d In Podcast. Yay! Yay!

We first start off our conversation talking to Jasmyn about the historical background of Cleveland that many haven't been informed about, one specific piece of Cleveland's history, is how they got their nickname "The Mistake On The Lake". Jasmyn later goes on to tell us what it was like growing up in Cleveland for her as a child with her siblings. She describes her childhood to be very happy and peaceful, and her and her two brothers and one sister would go outside and play like normal kids, and the community she grew up in was very hands on. In the sense that everyone knew each other and the police knew all the kids and people in the neighborhood, and the police would even wave at the kids playing outside as they drove by. Jasmyn later goes on to tell us how things started to drastically change in Cleveland as violence and crime started to rise due to lack of opportunities and resources. We then fast forward a bit in her journey to talk about her comedy career and how that got started. Jasmyn tells us that everyone in her family is funny, and her being funny and gradually doing stand up comedy wasn't really a surprise to many people because she was naturally gifted and she came from a family full of funny people. Jasmyn let us know that in her 10 years as a professional comedian, before she moved to LA, she had accomplished a bunch of things in comedy in the Midwest early in her career. Such things as: touring and opening up for major headlining comedians, winning numerous comedy competitions, being a regular host at The Cleveland Improv and performing regularly at The Laugh Factory in Chicago. We switch gears with our conversation and after the smoke break Tun gets into a more serious conversation. Tun mentions that Jasmyn as a certain joke, in which she talks about calling the suicide hotline because she was considering killing herself. But the only problem about that joke is that it was a real life event in which Jas walked us through what happened in her life that lead up to that particular moment that changed her life forever. On this episode of TIP, we still down with Comedian, Actor and Social Media Content Creator, Malik B. We start our conversation with Malik first addressing the pronunciation of name, which is constantly mistaken for "Maleek". Malik goes on to example how his name is Arabic and it means "King", so he takes pride in letting people know the correct pronunciation of his name. We then start to discuss what it was like growing up for him in LA, and how having both of his parents in his life and a strong relationship with his father helped mold him into the man he is today. Malik later tells us that he was acting and doing commercials as a young kid due to his mothers encouragement, but it was his father putting him in boxing, were he feel in love with the sport of boxing. Malik let us know that he was actually a really good boxer, to the point he found himself in Vegas training at Floyd Mayweather gym and even eventually sparring with Mayweather. Little did Malik know that his love for boxing would end up having him meeting Micheal B. Jordan in the boxing gym one day, and eventually have him be the inspiration for his character in the hit movie "CREED". Malik talks about how his first time acting in a movie was a major motion picture with huge movie stars and it was an experience of a life time. Malik let us know that he wasn't even supposed to be in the movie, but after a bet with Micheal B. Jordan, stating that if he beat up the best boxer in the gym, they would write a part for him in the movie. And without any hesitation, Malik beat the hell out of the best boxer in the gym, and the rest was history. That opportunity lead to a domino effect of events that ended up landing him another major role in a Netflix original film called "Burning Sand". After that movie, Malik was forced to face the harsh reality of Hollywood, which is the fact that one minute you can be "booked and busy" and the next your career can be at a complete stand still. So unfortunately for Malik, the movie auditions stopped after awhile and he had to figure out what his next move was going to be. Malik said that is was really a blessing from God for him to transition to his new career of comedy because he was always the one on the movie set making everyone laugh. So one day he saw a Stand Up Comedian class by the late Comedian David Arnold that was being held in LA and decided to join. After a few weeks of the class and getting up and finally performing a stand upset, Malik fell in love with the craft and his comedy journey began. Our conversation gets interesting when our Co-host T-Reg asks Tun and CP who are their top five favorite and/or most influential comedians. We later discuss how certain comedians, like Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and Tommy Davidson helped influenced his path in comedy. CP goes into detail about how the career path and the artistic body of work that Tommy Davidson had really gave him the idea for the different characters he would create in his own comedic artwork. We later talk about how he went viral in Detroit for his skits and funny characters and felt that he hit a ceiling, as far as he was concerned in the comedy game and was inclined to make his way out to Los Angeles. CP knew he was supposed to be in LA because due to him going viral in Detroit, he found himself as writer in writer rooms for Tv shows. On this episode, we sit down with a true West-Coast Legend and native of Los Angeles, Rapper, Song-Writer and Artist Casey Veggies. Our conversation first starts off with us talking to Casey about how he came up in Los Angeles, being the youngest of his siblings and growing up predominantly in Inglewood. He goes on to share with us that when he was 7 years old he was outside and got hit by a car and had to leave school and be homeschooled. Casey also reveals a random fact that maybe some people knew but was new to Tunde, which was that his father used to be a body guard for Jay-Z when he was younger. We later go on to discuss how him and our Co-Host T.Reg became instant friends as kids through sports and lost touch for a little bit, but eventually linked back up in high school at the Legendary Crenshaw High School. Casey then goes into detail about how things were for him in high school, seeing that he was getting heavy buzz and notoriety for his music at a very young age. He talks about how he was influenced a lot by certain Midwest artists like Lupe Fiasco, and how the East Coast music vibes helped him cultivate his own sound that he develop on the West Coast. By 17 yrs old, because of his constant grind and being outside and on the Fairfax scene, he had develop a solid name in the city, which later had him being able to connect with the big homies from LA doing their own thing like Nipsey Hussle and Dom Kennedy early in their careers. Casey explains that he was really living a crazy life at such a young age because not only was he performing at major clubs in Los Angeles and had his music doing crazy numbers on the internet before streaming was a thing, but he eventually got the attention of Jay-Z and Roc Nation and was flown to New York to meet Jay-z in person. That meeting later turned into him getting signed to a management deal with Roc Nation. As the episode goes on, we continue to talk about his journey as an artist in the music industry and the ups and downs that come from being signed to a major label like Epic Records, which was the label he signed his first record deal with. Casey goes on to express that due to all the politics and lack of knowledge of the music business that at a point, certain things started to get a bit shakey which kind of lead to him going through a bit of depression. Casey keeps it real about how he was able to come back from being in a dark place personally and artistically. But with him continuing to stay creative and motivated by the art of making music got him back to the point where he's creating phenomenal music and now going back on tour with his long time friend and big homie Dom Kennedy. Like usual, our listeners are definitely in for a treat like always, this is one you do not want to miss! So sit back and enjoy the crazy world of The Tune'd In Podcast. Yay! Yay!

On this episode, we sit down and talk to with a native of New Orleans and Personal Chef for some of todays biggest sports athletes, Chef Will Jones. Our conversation first starts off talking about how Chef Jones grew up in New Orleans, and where his passion for cooking initial came from. Chef explains that outside of this natural interest in cooking because of being from the south, he went to college for business management. But it was one day that he saw a man walking around campus with the checker pants that culinary students and people who cook at restaurants wear and it really intrigued him. Chef Jones later goes on to reveal to us that he was not only inspired by the guy in the checker pants but he also had a older brother who cooked and another brother who was in the streets, who always looked out for him and push him to do positive things with his life. We then transition to a new topic, when our Co-Host T-Reg asks him about how he was effected by "Hurricane Katrina". Chef tells us that the hurricane was the best and worst thing that could've happened to him because he had to evacuate his home and leave everything behind, but also got a sign from God to move to Atlanta, and that's when his life changed drastically. And while being in Atlanta, he was working at a very popular restaurant where a lot of celebrities used to come to eat. After building connections and relationships in Atlanta, unfortunately his mother got sick and evidently passed away, but he then moved back to New Orleans and capitalize on his skills and connections which eventually got him cooking for the likes of star athletes like Reggie Bush, and now being Anthony Davis's personal chef.
