This week, we're halfway OTT's 2026 Spooky Season and it's time to talk about what happens when you go to bed... well, for some people, it's not a relaxing experience in the slightest! Cultures from around the world all describe instances where an old woman leers over you whilst you should be asleep in bed... you can't move, you're awake and sometimes, she's sat on your chest. No, we're not making it up, it's been recorded in no less than 34 countries around the world! From cultural superstition, first hand accounts (revealed by one of the hosts as well!) to the science behind some of this - we've got you covered when it comes to the tale of the Night Hag and the Shadow People. Try and relax and we hope you have sweet dreams...because you definitely don't want to wake up to this visitor in your room! #OnTheTopic #Podcast #PodernFamily #BritPodScene #Halloween #cursed #spotify #superstitions #folktales #nighthag To be part of the episode, simply leave a comment in the box below this episode in Spotify! This week Alex & Dan kick off their Proud of Pompey series with Terence Carvalho! Terence and his team have been leading the way for the City of Culture bid during 2026 and as a social media presence promoting the city and its residents, he was naturally one of the guests which the dynamic duo of the south coast wanted to have on the podcast. Terence, born and bred in the city, discusses growing up with the navy as one of his influences, along with fond memories of iconic establishments which made up his childhood; from museums, nationally-hated parking structures to foaming fountains and local vernacular. Finishing off with discussing the centenary and what it would mean for the city and its future with a winning bid, Alex & Dan get some great insight into what it means to represent a city and the fantastic opportunity in reminding its residents why it's a great place to live! Sit back, relax and join this #pubcast for the start of the POP series, here at OTT Central! #OnTheTopic #Podcast #PodernFamily #BritPodScene #POP #Interview #Portsmouth100 #Cityofculture #UK #Britain #Prid #Local #History #Culture #Spotify Are you a creative, business or a resident of the city which would like to contribute to the POP series? This week, Alex & Dan ditch the nostalgia beach for some more globe trotting, as they bring you some popular superstitions from around the world! There's the usual ones - Friday 13th, throwing salt (sodium!) or seeing black cats - we talk about their origins and where in the world will you see these things avoided the most. We also then discuss some not-so-common superstitions - from Lemons and Chillis, not going straight home after a wake, whistling indoors and cheers-ing with water. We also find out that Dan's family practice some of these, but never knew why... now he does! Are there any which you believe in? This week, Alex & Dan kick off 2026’s Spooky Season with a strong opener - Cursed Objects Vol.1! There’s some items which didn’t even make the notes as they were too cursed to discuss - but which ones were the dynamic duo comfortable enough to chat about? From haunted and deathly antique boxes, possessed bunk beds - to murderous stone artefacts and spirited vases.... Alex also searches during the episode for cursed second hand items on a well known UK second-hand goods site and finds a possessed doll for sale - WHO DOES THAT? #savejudith It’s a wild ride and it gets wilder. Let’s hope you don’t come into possession of some of these items, as you really wish you hadn’t… #OnTheTopic #Podcast #PodernFamily #BritPodScene #Halloween #cursed #spotify #savejudith To be part of the episode, simply leave a comment in the box below this episode in Spotify! This week, Alex & Dan revisit the iconic islands of Jurassic Park to discuss what it would ACTUALLY take to make it in real life... From buying islands, the greatest scientific minds, to autonomous tour vehicles and corporate away-day suites... the dynamic duo of the south coast discuss the total bill for making one of these wonders of popular culture. They then cast their attention to whether its ACTUALLY feasible - because Colossal is doing it with the Wooly Mammouth and Elon Musk (isn't it always??) is talking about adding that to his repertoire - but as Ian Malcolm famously said - just because you can doesn't mean you should... This week, Alex & Dan discuss one of the most popular icons of modern conspiracy theories and cutting-edge scientific discovery - the Large Hadron Collider! From finding the Higgs Boson to a new way of explaining our universe, it is doing some truly world-defining work. But is it also opening wormholes to different dimensions, summoning demons - and why are the staff at CERN performing human sacrifices in front of their statue of Shiva...? That took a turn! We also revisit some of the concepts from our Conspiracy Theories Vol.2 and Mandela Effect episodes - it seems the LHC has A LOT to answer for! This week, Alex & Dan rush to the departure gates as they board their last flight of Summer Season 2026 - this time, talking about a simpler, more spacious and relaxing time in the air - what flying in the 1990s was really like! From ample leg room, an abudance of luggage space - to as much second hand smoke as you could fill your lungs with - and metal cutlery, lax security and loved ones escorting you onto the plane - it was a wild time in the 90s and that was even after you needed to make your way to the High Street to purchase the holiday from the Travel Agents and procure your paper tickets! It's another nostalgic walk down memory lane - grab your steamed face towel as we mourn an enjoyable trip abroad! p.s. no cigarettes were consumed in the making of this episode artwork - neither Alex or Dan condone smoking - it's for chumps! #GITS🌊 #Onthetopic #TWRAD #Southcoastsounds #hotel #holiday #trips #flying #nostalgia #90s #smokingisforchumps NEW! The bedding which is discarded on the hotel floor? It's there for a legitimate reason. That bath robe? It's not as fresh as you'd probably like. And don't get us started on the glassware....
