October Is Like Christmas For Sports. Here's How To Sound Like You Knew That
2026/09/29
October is the month when sports come up everywhere, from work and happy hour to your family group chat, and it's all happening at once. Here's what you actually need to know.
Amy and Scott get into everything happening in sports this month so you're ready when it comes up.
This week they get into:
- The NHL season begins today, and they've added two extra games to an already brutal schedule. Why did the players agree to that?
- The NBA tips off October 20th on NBC. LeBron left LA for the 76ers. The Knicks are defending champions. Jalen Brunson just hosted SNL.
- The Mets spent $344M. The Rays spent $89M. And only one of them made the playoffs.
- WNBA playoffs throw conferences out the window entirely, but Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings are in.
- NASCAR's format means drivers who aren't even in the playoffs are still out there racing and wreaking havoc on the ones who are
- The NFL is packing its passport: London three weeks in a row, Paris for the first time. Jet lag is already taking down rosters.
- The Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. If you don't care about the game, go for the fair food.
- The Singapore Grand Prix and the Austin Grand Prix, including why they weld the manhole covers shut before the race and what the two-hour time limit means if you've never watched F1
Sports are the easiest conversation starter. We're getting you ready with the sports news you'll want to spill.

The Game Day Fits Conversation Nobody Is Having (But Should Be)
2026/09/22
You've been watching the players. But have you been looking at the coaches?
Amy and Scott are getting into one of the most overlooked conversations in sports: the game day fits on the sideline. What coaches are allowed to wear, what they're not, and why it's completely different depending on the sport. And as Scott puts it, if you don't even care about sports, this one involves fashion, and that's enough.
This week they cover:
- Why baseball coaches are dressed like the players, and the late 1800s tradition behind it
- The NFL's dress code, why suits have been banned and Kyle Shanahan's very real beef with this season's issued hats
- Jim Harbaugh wearing cleats on the Chargers sideline and why his players started asking for them
- Kim Mulkey coaching LSU in feathers, rhinestones, and heels because if you win enough, you can channel Dolly Parton and wear whatever you want
- Dawn Staley bringing Gucci and Jordans to the South Carolina sideline, and what her new Nike deal means for this season
- Rick Pitino's white suit, Danny Hurley's barely-surviving lucky suit, and what happens when you wear a white shirt and sweat through it on national television
- Why the NHL is basically the last sport still in suits, and nobody is questioning it
There's always something to talk about in sports that has nothing to do with what's happening on the field. You have to know where to look.
That's the sports news you'll want to spill.

The Football Questions You've Been Too Afraid To Ask. We're Answering Them
2026/09/15
You still have questions. Honestly? Same.
After two episodes breaking down college and NFL football, Amy and Scott are back to fill in all the blanks on the stuff that goes over everyone's head, the things you don't know how to bring up, and the questions you've been afraid to ask out loud.
This week they get into:
- Why the ball is physically different between college and the NFL, and how it messed up one of the best receivers in the league when he got to the pros
- One foot vs. two feet, clock management, and why overtime in college and the NFL are completely different animals
- The ref who just threw that flag probably has a real job on Monday, and what that job actually looks like (and how much they get paid)
- How the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) changed everything
- The 11 teams that now have male cheerleaders and the six that don't have any at all
- Explaining the Bills Mafia with their tables, bowling ball shots and a 20-foot table in the brand-new stadium.
- Auburn's toilet papering tradition, and why you do not mess with those trees.
Sports are the easiest conversation starter. We're just getting you ready for it with the sports news you'll want to spill.

The NFL Conversation Is Coming. Here's How You Walk Into It Confidently.
2026/09/08
The NFL is back. And this season feels different before it's even started.
For the first time, the league is playing on four continents, in seven countries, and the first game of the season isn't even in the United States. This is not the league from five years ago, and that has nothing to do with Taylor Swift.
Amy and Scott are back to get you set up for success when it comes to talking about the world of football. Whether it comes up at the office, happy hour, or wherever sports are on in the background, this episode is your conversation starter.
This week they're getting into:
- The NFL's full 180 on touchdown celebrations and what's still going to get you fined (RIP finger guns)
- The LA Rams pulling out all the stops with Myles Garrett and Aaron Donald on the same defensive line
- Baker Mayfield in Tampa with mosquito energy in the best possible way
- The international schedule, including a first-ever game in Paris and an international opener at the Melbourne Cricket Ground
- Rookie debut patches are the coolest new thing you'll spot on a jersey all season
- And the full-time job of figuring out where to actually watch the games this year
You don't have to watch anything on TV. We've got you.
Sports news you'll want to spill.

How to Talk College Football This Season Without Watching A Single Game
2026/09/01
College football season is back, and co-hosts Amy and Scott cover everything worth knowing before the conversation passes you by.
From Indiana's perfect 16-0 season to quarterbacks making six million dollars while shopping for online classes. Then there's a coach the FBI investigated after he left town, and a regular fan from Akron who called plays in an actual college football game.
Plus Pat McAfee, who is somehow on every ESPN broadcast, making $60M dollars a year, and yet is still an acquired taste for some.

Stop Faking It: Everything You Need to Know About Fantasy Football This Season
2026/08/25
Fantasy football season is here. If you have spent years nodding along while everyone around you obsesses over rosters, lineups, and waiver wire pickups, this episode is a good place to start.
Co-hosts Amy and Scott go through what fantasy football is, how a league works, what happens on draft night, and what you need to do each week so you stay competitive.
They also talk about which players are getting the most attention heading into the 2026 season, how a Chinese zodiac sign turned into a legitimate draft strategy, and what happens to the person who finishes last. One of those punishments involves a stuffed bear at a restaurant table for two.
You do not have to play to get something out of this. If you want to follow the conversation, this episode is for you.
