Market experts say the global factors at this stage are more important than the domestic factors in driving the stock market higher. Falling inflation expectations and easing of COVID-19 restrictions in China that lifted global commodities helped assuage sentiments in global markets.

With a jump of almost 7 per cent, Nifty Auto was the top sectoral gainer last week. Hero MotoCorp, Eicher Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Mahindra were the top gainers in the pack rallying in between 7-11 per cent. While there are concerns over a looming recession in the US, such fears have been keeping commodity prices under check, offering a short term respite to India. But the rupee weakness has continued and it looks unlikely that foreign outflows will halt soon. Eventually, if US markets see weakness, the domestic market may follow the suit.

The 30-share pack Sensex rose over 450 points to close at 52,727.98. Its broader peer, Nifty50, closed 0.92 per cent higher at 15,699.25. Both the indices posted weekly gains of 2.7 per cent, logging their best week in over a month.

Dalal Street bulls managed to gain most of the ground lost on Wednesday as the Sensex ended over 400 points higher and Nifty settled past the 15,550 mark.

From the 30-share pack, 27 stocks settled with cuts with Tata Steel falling 5 per cent. Wipro, Reliance, IndusInd Bank, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance and Titan also cracked over 2 per cent each. TCS, Power Grid and Maruti managed to end flat after a choppy session.

Tracking firm global cues, BSE barometer Sensex rose 934.23 points or 1.81 per cent to close at 52,532 level, while the Nifty50 closed above the 15,600 mark to post their best session in three weeks.

The domestic stock market managed to gain some lost ground on Monday after six consecutive days of fall as investors preferred to buy stocks at low levels. Buying in FMCG and IT stocks pushed the Sensex 237.42 points higher to close at 51,597.84, while Nifty50 reclaimed the 15,350 mark.

IT stocks have been under tremendous pressure. Shares of all the Big 4 IT companies - TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCL Technologies - hit fresh 52-week lows last week. Is it because of FII selling, fears of recession in the US or something else is brewing?

All sectoral indices logged losses for the week, with metal, PSU and IT stocks declining the most. All stocks from the Nifty pack post losses, with ONGC, Hindalco, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, IndusInd Bank and Tata Steel falling over 11 per cent for the week.

Nifty50 fell for the fifth straight day on the weekly expiry today and hit a new 52-week low of 15,335 after the US Fed chose to hike interest rates by 75 basis points.
