Welcome back to Dumbing it Down with Dave. Forgive me for I have sinned (once again) and have not produced an episode since March 2, 2026. Today's episode was well worth the wait, especially for me. A year ago in 2025 Charlie Kirk was assassinated. It affected me in a way, that I haven't been affected in a long time by a person's death. It affected me in such a way that I changed my Facebook profile pic to "I am Charlie" which is probably the most performative thing I have ever done. I try very hard not to be performative and it is in fact, a pet peeve of mine. When I changed it, I wasn't sure how long it would be for. I certainly didn't think it would be for a year. It was and what a year it was. I was accused of being a racist because of my belief in him. Most people know I'm not a racist. I'm quite the opposite and then some. What I found amazing since the change was the anger and negativity soooo many people have because of Charlie, and it's all misinformed. What I also found amazing was something I'm going to possibly to talking about a lot in future episode. I found that most people (99.9%) of the people who were upset and angered lacked...curiosity. I'm amazed at the lack of curiosity in people. Many people don't really don't want to have a conversation. Conversation definition: A conversation is an interactive, informal exchange of thoughts, ideas, feelings, or information between two or more people. Unlike a speech, a debate, or an interrogation, a true conversation relies on a dynamic flow of speaking and active listening, where all participants have the opportunity to contribute. Charlie taught me "bad things happen when we stop talking". I've always enjoyed real, sincere and honest conversation. I have found that not only in the last year, but for several years real engagement, especially on Facebook has become nearly impossible. I keep on trying, and I keep on experiencing so much negativity and so much push back on ideas that are not part of the echo chamber. In this episode amongst many topics, Dave works his way towards getting to the topic of Charlie Kirk and the Deaf. Some of those topics are about the snowstorm that occurred two days before recording this episode and the day before where he had to snow blow himself out of it. He talks about how he is NOT mechanically inclined and he can’t rely on a snowblower to work every time over the course of the last 15 to 20 years. He doesn’t really do the preventative maintenance he supposed to be doing. Dave also mentions his production company, which is .001 productions which can also be spelled Point001 productions. Dave supports the independent podcasts, way more than he supports anybody in the mainstream media or anything resembling it. He ends up discussing about being the dissenting voice. A dissenting voice on the left, and dissenting voice on the right, he tries not to lean in any particular direction as he is a pragmatic and that’s all that really matters. He talks about how he loves engagement, and always asking why. Even when he gets an answer, he still wants to know why. He’s very proud of owning his show, and not a slave to sponsors. His opinion is not tainted by money. He mentioned a message he received from a friend from the past named Jason Howard, who is also a stand-up comedian and has worked with Dave in the past. Time eventually ran out on the show, so this is part one. Maybe we’ll let this one breathe a bit and then we’ll publish part two in the next 3 to 4 days.
