Dave Clawson
2026/10/22
Dave Clawson said he watches more film as a TV analyst than he did as a head coach. That's partly because as a head coach he had so many responsibilities beyond X's and O's. It's also because he takes his current job as an ACC Network analyst very seriously. Clawson, who was in Clemson last week calling the Tigers' win over Charleston Southern, takes us inside his process of preparing for games. Clawson also gives his in-depth thoughts on the state of Clemson football under Dabo Swinney. The 4-2 Tigers play host to Virginia Tech on Saturday night before traveling to Florida State next week. "We're going to learn a lot more about Clemson over these two weeks," Clawson said. Clawson was the head coach at Wake Forest from 2014 to 2024 and never beat Clemson in 11 tries. He came closest in 2022, losing 51-45 in two overtimes in Winston-Salem, and then in 2023 when his Demon Deacons lost 17-12 in Death Valley. He considers Swinney a good friend.
Brad Brownell, Part 2
2026/10/21
Every summer, Brad Brownell sits down with Tigerillustrated.com for a lengthy interview about the state of his basketball program. The full Q&A from the 2026 session was published in written form in July. Now we provide the full audio from that sit-down, which preceded the team's trip to Italy. Some important developments have occurred in the months since that interview: Dillon Hunter re-joined the team, and talented guard Zac Foster suffered a re-torn ACL in last week's closed scrimmage against College of Charleston. This is the second of two parts. Clemson plays host to Georgia in an exhibition on Friday night.

Terrence Oglesby
2026/10/14
Terrence Oglesby recently signed a two-year extension with ESPN, putting himself a step closer to his dream of being the top college basketball television analyst. The former Clemson guard under Oliver Purnell is expected to make at least 35 appearances for the network with his assignments split roughly 50/50 between studio shows and game coverage. All told, Oglesby is expected to make more than 60 appearances across ESPN, Field of 68, and the Charlotte Hornets this season. He's come a long way since getting paid in hot dogs to broadcast Division II basketball games at Anderson University. Oglesby also gives his thoughts on this week's news that Zac Foster suffered a re-torn ACL during a weekend scrimmage against College of Charleston. Oglesby believes this is still a team capable of reaching the NCAA Tournament, even if Dillon Hunter isn't eligible.
Will Dingle, Ball Knower
2026/10/07
Will Dingle, who goes by the handle "WillyDee1" on the Tigerillustrated.com message boards, has made a name for himself as he breaks down film of Clemson football on a weekly basis. Dingle, formerly the offensive coordinator at powerhouse South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, is taking this year off to put focus on his family that includes two young children. Dingle joins the podcast to talk his love for the TI message-board community, and he goes deeper into the state of Clemson football under Dabo Swinney. Dingle graduated from Clemson in 2013.
David Hale
2026/10/03
Last week, David Hale of ESPN published a comprehensive -- and rather scathing -- deep dive into the current state of Dabo Swinney's football program. Hale's article painted the picture of a program headed in the wrong direction. An excerpt: Clemson's downfall is not the result of one clear failure, according to more than a half dozen coaches, agents and pundits who spoke with ESPN about the program's status. Instead, it has been a death by a few dozen cuts. At the center of all of them, however, is the same culprit: Swinney's refusal to adapt -- or worse, to admit there's a problem. One source close to the program called Swinney's approach "stubborn," and lamented the coach's regular rebuffs of criticism, instead insisting the team was "just a few plays away" or offering reminders that Clemson made the playoff -- as the 12 seed -- just two years ago. "It's like there's nothing wrong [to him]," the source said. Or, as an opposing coach noted: "If you don't know the problems, you can't find solutions." Hale joins the podcast to discuss his reporting for the article and whether he's received any blowback from Clemson folks over the last week. And with the Tigers at 3-1, he also frets about a "Dabo was right" butt tattoo he promised if Clemson finishes 11-1 as Swinney said was still possible after a 41-point humiliation against LSU.
Ellis Johnson
2026/10/01
For the past two years Ellis Johnson has lived in the Clemson area to be closer to his son Charlie, a tight end on the Tigers' football team. Johnson has some thoughts about this Clemson team as it sits 3-1 with a major challenge against Miami on Saturday night in Death Valley. The team's two biggest obstacles right now, in Johnson's mind: Freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds learning on the job, and an interior defensive line that hasn't supplied the disruption and pressure that is needed to have a consistently high-level defense. "I think Miami has to help Clemson for them to have a shot," he said. "There's that much difference in the way the two teams are playing right now. I do think Clemson is capable of winning. But they have to do something to help Tait Reynolds. They have to run the football, and then they have to be careful with what they ask him to do. And they have to get some takeaways on defense." Johnson was an assistant coach at Alabama in the early 1990s when Dabo Swinney played there. He then moved on to Clemson to work for Tommy West from 1994-96. Johnson was South Carolina's defensive coordinator under Steve Spurrier from 2008 to 2011.
Ralph Russo
2026/09/24
Ralph Russo of The Athletic spent several days in Clemson before and after covering the Tigers' comeback win over North Carolina. Russo is trying to wrap his mind around the complicated questions surrounding legendary coach Dabo Swinney if this season ends up being more of the same after last year's six-loss disaster. Can Clemson still be a national contender? Is Swinney's roster management a hindrance to that aspiration? Will Clemson be a regular contender for the ACC championship, or does the current reality for the Tigers point more toward them being middle of the pack? Lots of questions that are hard to answer through three games, but Russo believes the next couple months in Tigertown are going to be very interesting. Before joining The Athletic, Russo spent 20 years as the lead national college football writer for The Associated Press. He also previously worked as the AP's Mississippi-based sports writer and did a stint with The Denver Post. Ralph is a native New Yorker and a graduate of Fordham University.
Roy Philpott
2026/09/18
Roy Philpott moved on from covering Clemson years ago, but the topic of his alma mater still comes up in his jobs doing ESPN play-by-play and a daily show on SiriusXM College. This season, Ole Miss coach Pete Golding shared with Philpott the sales pitch he presented to Lane Kiffin when Kiffin was being pursued by LSU last year. "We can be Clemson in the teens," Golding said, referring to the dominant run under Dabo Swinney and how it was accomplished. Philpott, who's in Louisville preparing to call Saturday's SMU-Louisville game, goes in-depth with his thoughts on the decline of Swinney's program. Can Dabo pull it out of the ditch? Philpott still has optimism that he can, and that he can make the decision to go all-in on portal talent. Clemson is a slight favorite over North Carolina in Saturday's noon game at Death Valley.
Wes Durham
2026/09/15
Clemson's 22-7 win over Georgia Southern ended at 1:07 AM on Sunday. Wes Durham was in Pittsburgh by 9 AM to call that day's 1 PM game between the Falcons and Steelers. Durham, who works for the ACC Network, ESPN and SiriusXM College in addition to being in his 23rd year calling games for the Falcons, joins the podcast to talk the logistics of getting from one point to another -- and this after an almost two-hour weather delay before the Clemson game. Durham also doesn't hold back on his concern about Clemson's football program. During the offseason he thought Dabo Swinney's 18th team could finish anywhere from 8-4 to 4-8. "They don't scare people now. And they haven't scared people in a while," Durham said. "They are a good football program. But the thing that would concern me right now is would you say they're better than Miami? Better than SMU? Better than Louisville? Would you say they're better than Virginia? I wouldn't right now." Clemson is a slight favorite at home Saturday against North Carolina, a team it thrashed in Chapel Hill last season.
Andy Staples
2026/09/10
Andy Staples has covered college football for decades and has had a close knowledge of Dabo Swinney's program since the very beginning. Staples isn't troubled only by what he saw on the football field Saturday at LSU. He's also concerned about how Swinney is publicly addressing some of the problems and questions surrounding his football program -- including the roster-management topic that produced Swinney's controversial response in Tuesday's press conference. Staples vividly remembers how it ended with Bobby Bowden and Florida State. Are Clemson and Swinney headed down the same path?  Staples joins The Clemson Dubcast to discuss the state of affairs in Tigertown and what it all looks like from afar.
Mickey Plyler
2026/09/08
Three days after Dabo Swinney absorbed the worst loss of his head-coaching career, Mickey Plyler didn't hold back. And neither did his listeners. Plyler has been a prominent host for WCCP-FM over Swinney's entire time at Clemson. He's never gone off on the future Hall of Fame coach like he did this morning. Plyler joined The Clemson Dubcast on his drive home to reflect on those three hours, and on the major predicament facing Clemson's football program that he believes is of Swinney's making.
Eric Mac Lain
2026/09/03
Once upon a time, Clemson was preparing for a game against LSU and not many folks gave the Tigers a chance. Eric Mac Lain was a player then, back in December of 2012, and he remembers how a brutal few weeks of bowl practices ended up giving Clemson the mental and physical toughness to hang with Les Miles' powerhouse program. The 25-24 triumph will always go down as one of the landmark breakthroughs of the Dabo Swinney era. "We went into that game wondering who we were and what we were about, and then we decided to kick the door down," Mac Lain said. Is a similar breakthrough possible Saturday night in Baton Rouge? Mac Lain thinks so, and he explains why in a return visit to The Clemson Dubcast.
Jon Blau
2026/08/30
Jon Blau has been in Baton Rouge for two months. It feels more like 10 months. Seems there's a new controversy every other day involving Lane Kiffin and LSU football. Blau's job is to follow it all in his new position covering Kiffin's program for The Advocate/Times-Picayune newspaper. Blau, who spent the previous five years covering Clemson for The Post and Courier of Charleston, shares why he decided to make the move. He also shares that he hasn't had an introduction to Kiffin because Kiffin isn't much for one-on-one conversations. Quite the change-up from the always approachable Dabo Swinney. Blau has spent years covering games in one Death Valley. This Saturday he'll get his first experience in LSU's Death Valley when Kiffin plays host to Swinney.
Roddy Jones
2026/08/25
Roddy Jones recently spent time at Clemson's football facility visiting with Dabo Swinney and others. Jones is high on this team's chances of getting back to the ACC championship game, but he still senses uncertainty after last year's six-loss disaster. "I think they think they're good," said the ESPN analyst and SiriusXM Radio co-host. "But I don't know if they know they're good yet. And I understand how that feels as a player. You wouldn't say this out loud, but LSU is going to prove to them that they're good or it will confirm some doubts they have. I think it's a team that's cautiously confident." Jones played A-back for Georgia Tech and Paul Johnson from 2008 to 2011. He ranks first in the school's record books in career games started (52), third in career games played (52) and 12th in career rushing yards (1,846).
